Review--Daimon by Jennifer Armentrout

For three years, Alexandria has lived among mortals—pretending to be like them and trying to forget the duty she'd been trained to fulfill as a child of a mortal and a demigod. At seventeen, she's pretty much accepted that she's a freak by mortal standards... and that she'll never be prepared for that duty.

According to her mother, that’s a good thing.

But as every descendant of the gods knows, Fate has a way of rearing her ugly head. A horrifying attack forces Alex to flee Miami and try to find her way back to the very place her mother had warned her she should never return—the Covenant. Every step that brings her closer to safety is one more step toward death… because she's being hunted by the very creatures she'd once trained to kill.

The daimons have found her.

I'm having a GREAT reading day! Finished the book I started yesterday and read 2 novellas! Whittling my TBR pile down a book at a time!

Anyways, I decided to read the prequel to Jennifer Armentrout's Half-Blood, Daimon, because I'm curious! For some reason I was thinking--before I even read the cover description--that Daimon was going to be a person. I was wrong daimon is a group of beings, I guess we can see them as "demons" but I'm not sure if that's right. This series is going to have the Greek gods at the center--sort of I think, yay! Basically they are mentioned but didn't really make an appearance in Daimon, although they were mentioned.

Alex and her mother have run away from the Covenant where they lived all their lives. Why they ran away wasn't clear, only that it was to protect Alex. Since then she and her mother have moved from place to place in order to be safe from the daimons, and anyone who might drag them back home.

The story was a very fast paced one for a novella/prequel/short story--whatever it's called, since I'm not sure! We get a glimpse of Alex's life, the life she tries to lead but what comes in the way of it. She tries to be a normal teenager, but doesn't do as well as she had hoped. And then things start to go very very wrong for her. Daimons attack and she is forced to go on the run.

Again, I have another shorter story to review and it's difficult since I cannot say too much. But I enjoyed getting to look into Alex's world. To get to know her before we read her full story in Half-Blood. We get the insider's look of how she got to be where she starts off later. Alex was a very enjoyable character. She's a seventeen-year-old I would've loved to be friends with when I was that age! She's snarky and doesn't always try to hide who she is. Sure she keeps the important stuff secret that would not be good for humans to know, since she's a half blood, one born of a god and human parent, but still she's not afraid to be her human self when the need arises.

This was a great read and was pretty quick too. A good introduction to what we are about to see in Half-Blood.

Overall rating 5/5 stars

  1. I just read and reviewed Daimon: The Prequel To Half-Blood last week and thought it was pretty good. I ended up getting an ARC of Half-Blood in the mail this week, that I'll be reading and reviewing on the blog as soon as I can get to it.

Talk about a super craaaazy stack of ARC's I've got to get read within these next few weeks - I've got about four of them, five if you count Half-Blood. Sheesh.

But, yes, I pretty much agree with you! Will be playing catch up with your blog tomorrow-ish and over the weekend at some point!
