This week's question is: What is a deal breaker for you in a book? For example, do you abhor love triangles? Or can’t deal with bad editing?

MY ANSWER: Well, I can't stand love triangles, but that doesn't stop me from reading a book if I want! Bad editing doesn't bother me much either--it only makes me wish I could've been the proofreader early on!!I guess a deal breaker for me that would really make me stop reading or close to it, is if the heroine or hero is one of those annoying too stupid to live types! That kind of hero just annoys the hell out of me. And since it's the hero, it makes it hard to enjoy the book!

  1. Seems a few people don't like love triangles. I can"t say they bother me too much. As for the heroine/hero being stupid. I totally agree. Wha't the point if their weak and annoying.

Thanks for stopping by my FF :)

  4. Thanks for stopping by my Friday Hop! I LOVE your answer! It's bad when you wish you could jump into a book and slap some sense into the main character.

  5. I have an issue with love triangles too. They seem to be in most YA books now. I kow when I was a teen I didn't see love triangles everywhere and I was never in one. Is this what teen girs want these days. Who knows. Anyways. I don't like them and feel they take away from the love story but like you it doesn't keep me from reading the books. I am one of the few that doesn't mind heroines or heroes that make dumb decisions. They are teenagers and I guess I feel it's more realistic then the teens always making the right decisions and knowing what to do. I don't like it when they don't grow throughout a book though. I mean experience should teach one something... sorry for the babble.

  6. YES. I can't stand it when the main characters make stupid decisions all the time!

  7. I wish I had thought of this when i wrote my answer. Bad editing and love triangles are annoying, but not really (well, very rarely) dealbreakers.

Bad characters are! A bad heroine or hero (lame, annoying, stupid, not real/fake, no depth, etc) is.

    Great answer!!!

  8. LOL. Agreed. Too-stupid-to-live types are the worst. Such a turnoff to the story! :D Old follower via GFC. My FFs are at Musings on Fantasia and LKHill. Happy Friday! :D

  10. I agree, though I guess I don't run into this too much fortunately! Maybe it's just the type of book I tend to pick up ;-) If I found myself constantly yelling at them to turn around and stop being dumb though, I'd probably set it down ;-)

  11. Great points! I totally agree with you because it's just a total turn off if the here/heroine is as good as hell ;) But thanks for sharing and happy Friday!

  12. Grammar doesn't bother me either because we all make mistakes, no matter how many times you check it.
What does bother me is when the dialogue is trying WAY to hard to be cool and hip. Perfect example is the House of Night series. *cringes*
    Those books were painfully awful.

  13. Good answer. I can't really stand the hero or heroine who complains the entire time about their gift or responsibility. It's like why did the author choose you again to save civilization? lmao

  15. I definitely agree with what you said on my post, I can't help but think, "I would have caught that error!" Cliches are also okay if they can twist them to be original, like you said.

  20. That annoys me, too! And I know what you mean about Disney stories, they're the only ones that can get away with instalove. Somehow with Disney, it seems legitimate, haha. Thanks for stopping by!

  22. Oh yes! I hate a stupid heroine/hero. It seems like a trend in YA novels lately is to make the character more "identifiable" by making the awkward, insecure, and naive. Unfortunately all those things also make them unlikable.

  25. Yeah, that actually happened to me when I was reading The Darkest Powers Trilogy by Kelley Armstrong. Chole just annoyed the beejeezes out of me. She was often too stunned to run when being chased, I mean, what? Plus, she was totally stupid at times, I practically couldn't stand her. Luckily she had got the brave part of a heroine down pet and the plot was actually really good, otherwise I would drop like hot coal :P

  30. I completely agree with that one. I have to enjoy the hero or heroine or it's a no-go for me.
