Mini Review--Saved at Sunrise by C.C. Hunter

Nestled deep in the woods, Shadow Falls is a secret camp where teens with supernatural powers learn to harness their abilities and live in the normal world.  But Shadow Falls is facing a problem that could finally expose them to the rest of the world.  Humans are showing up dead, and rogue vampires may be to blame.

Camp resident Della Tsang, who’s still coming into her own vampire powers, is assigned to help find those responsible. If she succeeds, maybe she’ll even land her dream job: working for the F.R.U., the enforcers of the supernatural world.  But when she sees that her new partner is a hunky shapeshifter, things get complicated.  Steve, too gorgeous to be trusted and capable of seeing through her tough-as-nails exterior, knows just how to get under her skin.  And only hours into the mission, Della realizes rogue vampires aren’t the only threat she’s facing. If she’s ever going to complete her assignment, she’ll need his help…but learning to trust him will be her hardest challenge yet.

So I read Chosen at Nightfall as an ARC and never got around to read C.C. Hunter's Saved at Sunrise that sort of takes place before and during a bit of Chosen at Nightfall. And I thought to myself, Della's series is going to be starting next spring, I better read this ASAP! So I did!

Saved at Sunrise was a surprisingly quick read, although most novellas are! In this she gets her first assignment from Burnett for F.R.U. Pretty simple, she just has to see if this particular group of vampires is the group causing the trouble around town. The only problem in her mission...she has to work with Steve.

There's no doubt about it, Steve is interested in Della. But poor Della still has a few issues to work out in her heart. Lee, her previous and ex-boyfriend totally destroyed her heart. She gave him everything and after she been turned, he basically turned his back on her. While on the mission, Della makes a stop to see her family...who look very happy and well off without her, but what drives the nail further into her heart is seeing Lee on a date with his new fiancee, who is everything Della is not. Luckily, Steve is there to save the day.

Then of course, Della and Steve actually get to handling the problem at hand and there was some good ol' fighting going around then!!

I really enjoyed this story! Della is quite the character and I love her! She's strong and fierce, but still has her moments of "slipping up" when she kind of falls for Steve. But as I said, Della has had a lot of heartbreak from Lee did to her and she can't quite allow herself to be with Steve...or anyone for that matter. But Steve isn't willing to give up just yet! Gotta hand it to Steve for his fierce determination and yeah, maybe I want to smack Della good a bit, but she might bite my head off for that!

C.C. Hunter writes an amazing novella just as she does a novel! Novellas I think are harder to write than novels, because there is only so much page time to be had and you gotta get a story down and wrapped up before it's over! But C.C. does a fabulous job of it! I so can't wait to read Reborn!!

Overall Rating 5/5 stars

  1. You know, I don't think I've ever read a novella before. Sounds like this would be a great one to start with!

  2. Great review. I was a little nervous it would have spoilers since I'm currently in the middle of Awake at Dawn. I cannot wait to keep reading this series.

  3. I confess I didn't know this one. I think I've read one of her PNR book, but wasn't that thrilled about it. I think I need to try this series, it sounds great and I love the cover!
