Review--A Vision in Velvet by Juliet Blackwell

Lily Ivory hopes to score some great vintage fashions when she buys an antique trunk full of old clothes. But she may have gotten more than she bargained for.…

As soon as Lily opens the trunk, she feels strange vibrations emanating from a mysterious velvet cloak. When she tries it on, Lily sees awful visions from the past. And when the antiques dealer who sold her the cape is killed, Lily suspects a supernatural force might be behind his death.

Then Lily’s familiar, Oscar the potbellied pig, disappears. Lily will do anything to get him back—including battling the spirit of a powerful witch reaching out from the past. But even with the aid of her grandmother, unmasking a killer and saving Oscar might be more than one well-intentioned sorceress can handle.

Juliet Blackwell's latest mystery in the Witchcraft Mystery series is A Vision in Velvet and it was quite the exciting and thrilling read! I love a good paranormal mystery read and Juliet is one of my go-to for that one! (Victoria Laurie is another!)

Each book is a sort of standalone in some sense, but as always there are some plot points that get carried over, such as past adventures and relationships, but I would say one can read this without needing to read the others, but as always I highly recommend reading the others!

Lily finds herself in the thick of another mystery when one of her fellow shopkeepers in the area is murdered shortly after she did business with him. Not that she's a main suspect, but it does present quite the problem. As Lily starts to investigate the shopkeeper's most recent dealings, tragedy strikes when Oscar suddenly goes missing and Lily is pretty sure it's in the magical way meaning it will be a lot harder to find him.

This was another fun mystery and I loved it! While considered "cozy", I still found it rather thrilling! There are plenty of danger filled moments for Lily when she gets herself in way over her head. Luckily, she has amazing friends with their own powerful abilities that she can turn to in a bind.

I enjoy Lily's character! She's spunky! She has a simple touch to her, she doesn't have a cell phone and she's working to get her GED...she's not your average witch, yet she's still a lovable and enjoyable character.

The  mystery was pretty intense, as it got a lot darker than I thought it would. Naturally, the mystery took a magical turn. While Lily is struggling to solve the mystery, she's also desperate to find Oscar, because, naturally, she's grown attached to the little guy that was thrust upon her.

Aidan remains to be a man of mystery and it's quite possible the relationship Lily has formed with him will be taking a very dramatic turn come next book! Things happened, things change...it was intense! And then there's Sailor! You gotta love that man! He's still got that kind of dangerous vibe about him, but Lily has wormed her way into his heart.

The mystery itself was good too! I so didn't see this one coming! Naturally, I'm making my guesses and while I was right a time or two...my end result was far from the actual answer! And let me tell you, those last few moments were pretty scary and intense! I was freaked for a bit there! LOL!

Juliet brings us another delightful and incredible mystery and I look forward to more from her! Seriously, if you want a paranormal mystery start with Juliet Blackwell! You won't be disappointed!
