BLOG TOUR EVENT: Review--Greta and the Glass Kingdom by Chloe Jacobs

Once upon a dark time…

Greta the human bounty hunter never quite fit into the shadowed, icy world of Mylena. Yet she's managed to defeat the demon Agramon and win the love of the darkly intense Goblin King, Isaac. Now Isaac wants her to rule by his side—a human queen. And the very announcement is enough to incite rebellion…

To make matters worse, defeating Agramon left Greta tainted with a dark magick. Its unclean power threatens to destroy her and everything she loves. With the Goblin King's life and the very peace of Mylena at stake, Greta must find a cure and fast.

Her only hope lies with the strange, elusive faeries in the Glass Kingdom…if she can get there before the evil within her destroys everything.

I received this ARC from YA Bound Book Tours for being on the blog tour, in exchange for an honest review. I was in no way compensated for this review.

Chloe Jacobs' Greta and the Glass Kingdom was a long time coming! But the wait was totally worth it because this read was epic!

We pick up the story where we left off for the most part, and naturally my over-stuffed brain has read wayyyyy too much since this read and I couldn't remember everything that happened. But there's enough detailed weaved through the pages that I was able to get enough details to know what's going on. Greta is living in Isaac's palace, but is still plagued with nightmares. To make matters worse, her tangle with Agramon has left her tainted with a darkness inside of her. She's able to fight it off at the best of times, but it's still something that worries her.

Isaac is ready to present her before the kingdom/court, and basically declaring his love for her, to get his people to accept that she is his. Greta still gets the ugly looks because she's human. The event is a fiasco to say the least. Worse yet, Greta starts to worry that the darkness inside of her is having a negative effect on Isaac; one that is causing him to turn Lost. And once a goblin goes Lost, there's no coming back.

Two faery representatives in attendance recommend a cure of sorts. They say their queen can help her with her darkness. And Greta is determined to rid herself of this problem so she can help Isaac maintain his control. She and Siona set out with the faeries to their queen in the Glass Kingdom!

This was quite the exciting read! The description had me worried that Greta and Isaac were separated due to her leaving the castle. That this caused some flak between them and were fighting amongst themselves. This is so not the case! Isaac supports her decision, but he doesn't trust the faeries. So in a way, Greta does still sneak out, but it wasn't as dramatic as I feared it would be! And Isaac isn't completely out of the picture either. But that's all I say on that part!

We see more returning characters with this one! Greta has been searching for Wyatt and the boys and finds Wyatt on her journey to the Glass Kingdom at least. There's still a lot of tension between these two. I have to say that I am not at all for it either! Team Isaac through and through baby! Guess because I imagine him as a younger, but still hot version of Jareth a la Labyrinth! *grins*

There's a great deal of action in this one as Great makes her journey with her friends and "acquaintances". There's a well known saying within in literature, I believe, that goes along the lines of: never trust the fae. And that had me leery of the characters from the getgo, to say the least. That and Isaac's warnings of them as well.

Though Isaac and Greta are apart for sometime, the book isn't without its romance! There are quite a few sizzling kisses between these two that totally melted me! I love these two. And their relationship is about to be thoroughly tested in this one.

The ending is a bit of a cliffhanger. I wouldn't say it was major...but it does rate at least a 7 on the 10 point scale! 10 being I need the next book yesterday! I say that things hit a nice pause...but there's still a great deal of anticipation in the moment where we left everyone! Hopefully a third book won't be too far from us this go around!

One thing I have yet to connect with this series is it being a retelling of Hansel and Gretel. I don't know what I'm missing in that sense. Though it hardly seems mentioning, as even as I write this I am trying to find where I saw that tidbit and do not see it on Goodreads...perhaps in my email somewhere...but like I said, this does not reflect poorly on the series because it is still an epically awesome read that I highly urge you all to read, because GOBLINS!!!

Overall Rating 5/5 stars

ABOUT GRETA AND THE GOBLIN KING (Mylena Chronicles Book 1)

While trying to save her brother from a witch’s fire four years ago, Greta was thrown in herself, falling through a portal to Mylena, a dangerous world where humans are the enemy and every ogre, ghoul, and goblin has a dark side that comes out with the eclipse.

To survive, Greta has hidden her humanity and taken the job of bounty hunter—and she’s good at what she does. So good, she’s caught the attention of Mylena’s young goblin king, the darkly enticing Isaac, who invades her dreams and undermines her will to escape.
But Greta’s not the only one looking to get out of Mylena. An ancient evil knows she’s the key to opening the portal, and with the next eclipse mere days away, every bloodthirsty creature in the realm is after her—including Isaac. If Greta fails, she and the lost boys of Mylena will die. If she succeeds, no world will be safe from what follows her back...

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Chloe Jacobs is a native of nowhere and everywhere, having jumped around to practically every Province of Canada before finally settling in Ontario where she has now been living for a respectable number of years. Her husband and son are the two best people in the entire world, but they also make her wish she'd at least gotten a female cat. No such luck. And although the day job keeps her busy, she carves out as much time as possible to write. Bringing new characters to life and finding out what makes them tick and how badly she can make them suffer is one of her greatest pleasures, almost better than chocolate and fuzzy pink bunny slippers.

  3. I'm very interested in this one! I saw somewhere too that it was a Hansel and Gretel retelling. I am so glad that you enjoyed it. Definitely never trust the fae! I love how tricky they are and generally have fun with the fae books I read. Excellent review! Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.
