My Nashville Adventure

So this past Labor Day weekend, I convinced my mom to take a road trip with me to Nashville, TN to see Kim Harrison! Even though I've met Kim a few times already, I was eager to meet her without her red hair! LOL. Yes, it's an odd reason! Heehee!

But the trip was fun nonetheless! I now have ALL my Kim Harrison books signed to date! So I was a happy camper!

Prior to the signing, we did a little sight seeing--my mom actually just came to Nashville in June, but this was my first time. And our main stop was to see the PARTHENON! Yes, in Nashville!! I remember reading that there was a "second" Parthenon in the USA, but I guess I forgot it was in Nashville!

I've actually been to the one in Greece when I was a senior in high school and it was amazing, so I was excited to see this American version. Which was built mostly for the World's Fair a long time ago. And instead of tearing it down, it just stayed due to the public enjoying it so much!

Can you guess which one is in Nashville and which is in Athens, Greece? ;)

Inside was a museum, much like there is in Greece, but with different kinds of artwork to see. I was one of the tourists who followed the rule of "not taking pictures" in the certain areas of the museums overseas. Yes, I was a chicken, but I can't say I'd do it now either! LOL!

If my memory recalls, these were replicas of statue pieces in Athens. I remember there being a lot of "broken" pieces in the original museum. And above these, you can see some of the small figures that graced the roof ledge, or whatever the architectural term is called.

And then there was this stunning statue of Athena:

This statue is over 41 feet tall! It was really gorgeous, the gold was just stunning!! Studying Greek mythology was my favorite subject in school. Sadly never took a full on course, I think at my college it was an honors course. But I did several units on it spread throughout other classes in the years. So I was enjoying myself very much here!! It's probably the closest I'll get to seeing the Parthenon ever again! Heehee!

  2. Oh this looks like so much fun! I'm actually taking Art History in my college and I'm quite enjoying, I also plan on taking a Mythology class too. It's all just so interesting and beautiful to learn about. By the way I really like that statue of Athena, I'd love to see it in person! I'm a little jealous of you, I doubt I'll ever get the chance to visit this museum but loved the photos you shared and your experience. ;)

  5. I went to high school in Nashville but I never got the chance to visit the Parthenon. Locals tell me most kids go during elementary school for a field trip. There's so much to see in Nashville! Next time you should check out the indie store, Parnassus books, and Mckays used bookstore! Both are great! I'm planning to visit both when go back to Nashville for the southern festival of books this fall!
