ARC Review--Heart of the Wolf by Alyssa Rose Ivy

Betrayal hurts, love heals.

Wolf shifter Carter jumps at the chance to leave his dead-end security job to join the exclusive and secret force, The Rangers. The Rangers do the work no one else can do, and Carter's first mission is no exception.

Hope is frustrated when she's stuck chasing after her best friend Mirabella with Mirabella’s annoying brother at her side— what she doesn't realize is that things are about to get much worse, and everything she thought she knew about Mirabella’s family is dead wrong.

When Carter and Hope are thrown together, sparks fly, and they must work together to avert a crisis on a deadly scale.

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest and voluntary review. I was in no way compensated for this review.

Alyssa Rose Ivy does it again!! She begins a new chapter in the Chronicles world, this time with The Heart Chronicles, with Heart of the Wolf at the lead! I am constantly blown away with this world series! Every book Alyssa writes holds me captivated and has my toes curling with all the feels! Sure the romance is hot, but then the action and adventure and overall storyline is so engaging I find I can read the pages fast enough!

Hope is a young woman who's just starting her career. Granted, she works as an office assistant of sorts in her best friend, Mirabella's, family office that deals with computer software. Making things more complicated is that Mirabella's hot older brothers work there too in upper management. Hope has harbored a bit of crush on Clayton, but it's Julian who's always bothered her. To make it even worse, is that Julian's advances have grown more pressing as of late.

Then Hope learns Mirabella is somewhat MIA. She was on vacation and slipped the guard her overprotective family has set on her. But hope to track her through Hope. Hope had recently heard from Mirabella, telling her to come join her on this island she was at. Hope feels obligated to go, but is rather aggravated that Mirabella's father is sending Julian with her too. What she soon finds at this island is that things are far from what they appear.

Then we have Carter who's a wolf shifter and has recently been offered a job with the Rangers, a sort of secret, super elite, don't-ask-questions kind of team that deals with paranormal cases. Carter is sent to find out information regarding a weapons deal/trade going down. And these weapons have the potential to destroy all of humankind! Any guesses as to where he's being sent? Yup! The same island as Hope.

Needless to say, the tension was rife with this one!! Hope is trying to fend off Julian who is claiming that she is his mate and that they aren't leaving the island until they mate. It's kind of skeevy, yet oddly, Julian remains gentlemanly about it all. Except for the whole holding Hope hostage until she willingly gives in, kind of thing! No worries though, there's no issues of rape within in this one. Though Hope (and me as well) may think it possible, Julian is a gentleman to his word. Again, minus the whole holding her hostage scenario.

But when Carter walks onto the scene, things get very interesting, very quickly. And soon Carter could careless about his true mission, though it is still an issue. He's more concerned with getting Hope off the island and far from Julian.

While things do wrap up rather nicely in this one, I am anxious to know what's in store next with The Heart Chronicles. I feel like Hope and Carter's story could be finished, but there could still be more to come. It's one of those kind of endings! Ones that give you hope (no pun intended!) for more, but also there's the possibility of something new to come as well! And there was a familiar face at the end of this one, one that will help tie Hope and Carter into the world we already know and love!

Also, just to say, I did mention romance! It's one of those that lovely kinds that feels like both slow build-up but not quite insta-romance. There's always insta-attraction of course, but when you pay attention to what's said, you kind of understand how things move on quickly. And I can definitely tell you that the wait is worth it in the end! *wink wink*

I'm naturally dying for the next installment! A seemingly never-ending trend with Alyssa's books!
