Random Thursday

I always wonder where people learn the information that's in That's a Fact Jack: A Collection of Utterly Useless Information [Updated] by Harry Bright and Jakob Anser. It kind of reminds me of my youngest cousin who always seems to know some obscure fact about anything! It's like a Sheldon thing! LOL!

"A fundamental characteristic of nanotechnology is that nanodevices--structures at a size scale below 100 nanometers--self-assemble."

Whoa! And I had to LOL at my own picture, as soon as I saw "nano", I was reminded of my old Nano Baby! Like a Tamagotchi, but different brand obviously and clearly you're taking care of a baby instead of a little alien dude!

"You can put out a fire with sound waves."

No. Way!

"On March 15, 1985, Symbolic.com became the first registered Internet domain. Science-fiction writer William Gibson had coined the term 'cyberspace' in his novel Neuromancer only the year before."

Never did know what was the first website!

"The first item sold on eBay (then called AuctionWeb) was a broken laser pointer that sold for $14--at the time, more than the cost of a new one."

Did some semi-famous scientist cough on it or something? LOL!

"Fifty Barbie dolls are sold on eBay every hour."

Seriously?! That's insane! LOL!

"The Canturi Barbie is the most expensive Barbie ever made. Featuring a pink diamond necklace and a sleeveless black dress, the Canturi Barbie sold at auction for $302,500."

I don't think this is the Barbie the book was talking about, but then again maybe it is? Not really sure, but from browsing the pics I learned that her diamond necklace is real! Which makes sense due to that price! Holy cow that's a lot!

  3. Mantel barbies are ridiculous. I remember I used to get a lot of Barbie dolls, but I didn't really like playing with dolls so they just collected dust.
