The First Date Book Tag

I found another fun looking tag over at Fiction No Chaser! This one has a rather long credit, so bare with me! The tag was originated (from what I learned) at Thrice Read, but was found over at Hot Shot Headlines. The image I borrowed from Hot Shot Headlines and looks like it came from Pinterest at A Paper Reverie.

Whew!

THE AWKWARD FIRST DATE – a book where something felt off. It wasn’t a bad book, but lacked that spark for you

I remember liking Cinder in the long run, but at the same time it felt awkward. It might have had to do with the space setting and futuristic know-hows and all that. I did end up loving the series, but the first book was kind of awkward.

THE CHEAP FIRST DATE – book that turned out less than you expected

Girl at the Grave just wasn't what I had expected it to be at all. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't the incredible read I was hoping for either and it was kind of a letdown.

WELL-PREPARED FIRST DATE – A book that was better than expected

I went into Echoes thinking it would be a bit of Gilligan's Island meets Jurassic Park and while it had those elements, it also had sooo much more going on to it! I am positively DYING for a sequel!!!

HOT BUT DUMB – A pretty book, not so hot on the inside

I positively LOVED the cover for Black Bird of the Gallows the story itself was a little meh for me. It was still good in some ways, but it wasn't at all what I was expecting.

BLIND DATE – A book you picked up not knowing anything about it

I can't remember how I decided to start this incredible series that would expand into an even larger world series! I just remember thinking Flight sounded interesting and it was .99 and I took the plunge! Best decision ever!

SPEED DATING – A book you read super fast

I actually couldn't read Immortal Reign fast enough! I mean after the way Crystal Storm ended, I NEEDED TO KNOW!!! It took quite a few chapters until I was able to breathe but I will always remember speed reading to the extreme with those first few chapters and cursing the phone every time it rang! Lol!

THE REBOUND – A book you read too soon after a book hangover and it kind of ruined the book for you

Don't get me wrong, it's not like I didn't enjoy Grim Lovelies. I did. But I was also coming down from the high of reading Echoes by Alice Reeds and that one left me all a flutter and tail-spinning into oblivion with the need to know there's a sequel coming. So perhaps my mind was a bit distracted when I first started this one and I wasn't as focused as I should've been.

OVERLY ENTHUSIASTIC DATE A book that felt like it was trying too hard

I had such high expectations for The Devils You Know! I'd thought it was going to be the ultimate horror fest! And yet, it was kind of a letdown too. All the buildup and then blah. I also felt like it was trying to hard to be funny with all the "weird" slang. It felt like a really bad 90s movie at times and there was an overuse of cliches going on. It was just too much...in the bad way.

THE PERFECT FIRST DATE – A book that did everything right for you

Halfway to the Grave was just amazing!! I loved it to pieces and it could not have exceeded my expectations more! My mind was blown!

HUMILIATING FIRST DATE – A book you’re embarrassed to admit you liked / embarrassed to be seen reading in public for whatever reason

Let's first note that I LOVE pretty much EVERYTHING Jeaniene Frost writes! I love this book/series in particular. I'm more liking this topic to the second part, saying I'm embarrassed to see reading in public because of it's smoking hot cover! All the covers with naked chested men make it a tad embarrassing for me to read in public. Considering that my current job has pretty much all guys all the time, I would always make sure that these covers get laid face down for those parts or pull out my hide-a-cover!

In absolute public I'm only mildly embarrassed by the cover, but I wouldn't block it from view. It's just a tad more embarrassing when you're the only female in the group to be see reading a book with a cover like this! I am in NO WAY embarrassed to admit that I LOVE and ADORE this series and all the books Jeaniene writes!

And that's the tag! If this looked like fun to you and you want to join in, consider yourself tagged!

  1. I love the cover of Black Bird of the Gallows, but the content wasn't as amazing as the cover. However, I loved the companion novel, Keeper of the Bees, which I'm constantly telling people to read. =P

Thanks for sharing this tag. Adding it to my list of book tags.

    Happy readings! ;)

  2. Sorry you didn't love Black Bird of the Gallows. I'd had high hopes for that one.
