This week's question is: Do you read historical fiction? (submitted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer

MY ANSWER: Does paranormal historical fiction count? Or steampunk? Those are the closest to historical fiction that I've read! Lol. I did read The Historian many, many years ago and enjoyed it back then! If I tried to read it now, I might have been bored by it. So best to leave it as a book I enjoyed in the past! Lol.

I feel like ones I've read that might be considered paranormal historical fiction are Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectorate series, Colleen Gleason's Gardella Vampire Hunters series, Kristen Callihan's Darkest London series. All books that are told in the past with what I believe in historical accuracy in places and whatnot...and who knows...maybe vampires were lurking around London! Lol!

  1. I definitely consider paranormal historical fiction to fall under this category! I don't read a whole lot of straight up historical fiction - it just doesn't appeal to me. But add in fantasy or science fiction and I'm THERE. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I used to enjoy reading historical romances and historical fiction but as I've grown older my modern sensibilities have jarred against historic ones. ;-) Never say never, though, right?! I think you're right, paranormal/fantasy historic stories do count and I think they'd be the sort of genres that I'd go for too.

I hope you enjoy your weekend, Jessica. Here's my BBH Post

  3. I'm like you---I pretty much only read historical fiction if it has a paranormal twist of some type. I'm reading Lady Rogue right now, so I was actually thinking about this just today!

  4. I feel like those still count! I do occasionally read historical fiction, but it's super rare. I really enjoy Ruta Sepetys!

  5. Kinda same here. I have read historical fiction but sometimes I like it more with a little supernatural mixed in! I haven't read Gleason's Gardella series but I love her Stoker & Holmes books.

  6. It definitely counts! I feel like historical fiction is one of those genres that has many related sub-genres and what you listed would be categorized in those. So, definitely works!
