ARC Review--Winter's Wolf by Alyssa Rose Ivy

Four Courts. Four Fae princesses in need of a shifter mate. And a war for the ages.

Wren is heir to the Winter Court. That doesn’t mean she’s cold at heart, especially not when it comes to her best friend and wolf shifter, Frost.

Frost is sworn to protect Winter Court, but he wishes he could do way more than protect Wren.

As war brews, and the pair find themselves in a literal different world, will Frost be able to defend his Court and also become the Winter heir’s Wolf?

*New Adult Paranormal/Fantasy Romance*

I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest and voluntary review. I was in no way compensated for this review.

Alyssa Rose Ivy returns to the the sub-world of the Chronicles world--and by that I mean back to Energo where we first met Charlotte, Calvin, James, and Ainsley...and others of course too--with Winter's Wolf! Though we're not quite in their world just yet, but we're in that scope of Alyssa's worlds, if that makes sense! Here we have A Court of Shifters, where you can imagine there are kingdoms, four to be exact, where we have shifters and other Fae beings. And that is where our story begins!

Wren has been spending the past month at her friend Lacey's place in the Spring kingdom, mostly to avoid her mother, the Queen of the Winter kingdom, and her friend/guard Frost who she shared a passionate kiss with before fleeing to her BFF's place. Wren knows that her time to find a shifter mate for herself is coming and her mother will press for an alliance with another kingdom. Yet, as you can imagine, her heart secretly yearns for Frost.

Frost has been tasked with accompanying Wren on a trip to the other kingdoms where Wren is to find the ideal mate. As you might guess, Frost doesn't have the high ranking status that would be a good match for Wren, so there are a lot of forces working against them already. Wren is loathe to go on this trip, mostly because her mother is keeping Wren in the dark about her true motives, yet she learns them anyway through her younger sister.

Frost brings his younger brother, Preston, along for her was getting himself into some trouble with mysterious and shady people who will be coming after him soon for money. The trio stops in Spring first and soon learn there was an another matter altogether that was the cause of this trip. One that will have dire consequences.

This one definitely felt like it was on the shorter side of Alyssa's novels and since I always love returning to her worlds, I was a bit saddened by this. Lol. I mean, that's the thing to be sadden by a novel by, right? That being said, I can say that the pacing was rather fast to this one! There was so much going on in the short amount of time! Things escalated quickly for the characters and they were forced to act quickly in return and change their game plan towards the end!

It's a little unclear what the next stage of the journey will entail for Wren and her friends. I had a totally different idea forming in my head at the start of this one and to say I was off base is putting it mildly! Lol! I love when a story totally does the unexpected and I cannot wait to see what will happen next in the series!

As far as romance goes, it happened in brief snatches. I mentioned that this felt like a shorter read than Alyssa's usual novels, so there wasn't a whole lot of time for romance to happen. But since we get both Frost and Wren's point of views we know how they feel about the other. And there are stolen moments with them together exploring these feelings and then of course there was that ending...! Needless to say, I wasn't disappointed! Less is sometimes more.

This is bound to be the start of yet another great trilogy! Things are a little unclear for our characters as they stand now, but that will change quickly with the coming tides...or you know, the next novel in the series! Lol.

Overall Rating 4.5/5 stars
