Review--The Sweetest Burn by Jeaniene Frost

The breathtaking second novel in New York Times bestselling author Jeaniene Frost's Broken Destiny series finds Ivy and Adrian rekindling their alliance—and passion—as the struggle for the fate of the world begins…

Conquering a supernatural realm turned out to be easier than getting over a broken heart. But her initial victory has made Ivy a target for revenge, forcing her to reunite with the dangerous—and dangerously sexy—Adrian. Ivy isn't sure which will be harder: finding the hallowed weapon that will repair the crumbling walls between the demon and human realms, or resisting Adrian, who's decided that come hell or high water, he will make Ivy his.

At first, Adrian tried to resist his feelings for Ivy. Now, determined to break the curse that dooms their love, he's vowed to save her and to have her. If only he can persuade her to forgive his past sins. But defying destiny—and surrendering to the smoldering desire between them—will bring consequences and sacrifices they never imagined…

Jeaniene Frost's The Sweetest Burn picks up just two months after the earth-shattering events of The Beautiful Ashes. Things have changed for Ivy now that she knows more about this dangerous quest He has sent her on. To make matters worse, she's learned that Adrian had known all along and kept it from her. So for the past two months, he's stayed away, until now of course.

Ivy was just minding her business when demons appear out of a rip and attack her, though she was handling things moderately well on her own, who is to show up and save the day? You don't need me to tell you, of course it's Adrian. After staying away from her for two months, he returns because she's going to need his help (again) in order to find the second object, Mose's staff if she has any hope to save her world.

Though Adrian is ready to fully commit to Ivy and a relationship with her, she's not exactly ready to forgive him for keeping secrets that were related to her and her destiny. Though she has tried adamantly to move on from him, her feelings for him still persist. And with a determined Adrian to win her back, she really doesn't have much of a chance.

Adrian and Ivy are joined on their quest to locate the staff by Costa and Jasmine, and of course Brutus too. I love that adorable gargoyle too! He reminds me of Toothless! I wasn't sure how I really felt about Jasmine in this one. I mean, she seemed gun-hoe to hate Adrian because of his upbringing and other little things she noticed when he and Ivy rescued her from his demon foster father. I mean, I understood where she was coming from, but when your sister tries to tell you the good of the individual you don't really know well at all, you'd think she'd let up a bit, but nope. Though she still remains more of a side character, there did seem to be some interesting things happening when Ivy was looking the other way.

Naturally, there was a good deal of action in this one as Ivy and Co. travel the country going from place to place looking for the staff before the demons find it. And of course, demons always seem to be right on their tail. Which brought up a question of a possible traitor in their midst, however small that it was.

Then of course we still have a nice heaping of romance, Jeaniene Frost style! While there were mostly teases here and there that eventually built up the relationship between Ivy and Adrian, things were as romantic as you can expect from one of her books! I like that these moments are just stolen little ones and never overpower the story at large. For in this series, the story is about (literally) saving the world! Lol.

The ending was pretty spectacular as well. We learn some interesting bits along the way that basically made for one jawdropper of an ending! I am so glad I waited to binge the series together so I didn't have that pesky months long wait for this conclusion. Although life might get in the way this week to make my reading even slower than it's been lately. It's definitely always wise to binge a series than to read it as it releases, but obviously nothing wrong with doing that either!

The Sweetest Burn was an exciting and thrilling installment in the trilogy and does not suffer from middle book syndrome! I am looking forward to reading the epic conclusion next! Now if only I didn't have to work the rest of the week!
