The Fantasy Tropes Tag

 

So last week I was at Bookwyrm Knits and saw Nicole had up this fun little tag instead of the usual Top Ten Tuesday post and thought it looked like fun! I love doing these tags, but am never great at creating one myself. My brain doesn't function in that realm of creativity for some reason because I'm always trying to think of specific book but yet won't get an idea or theme across right. It's weird. But so I am, so whatever! Lol.

THE LOST PRINCESS
a book/series you lost interest in halfway through

I feel like this was one of those series I just kept reading but never really took in what was happening. I don't know if it helped or hindered me that it came at the start of my blogging life and I was eager to read it. It was fun, but then things started changing. There was the occasional 2 year gap between releases but then sometimes we got 2 books in 1 year to make up for it. And then I was going to RT conferences and getting lots of free books, then Borders closed and I was buying lots of book at random prices...the TBR pile formed and then this one got lost in the shuffle. I read up to 7 books but can't remember anything that happened, I have this book 8 on my TBR pile and then in 2022 another addition was released six years after that last one. So yeah...not sure if I will ever return to it, but can't outright say I won't because I'm not built that way. Lol.

THE KNIGHT IN SHINING ARMOR
a hyped book/series you were swept up by

Way back when, it was the Lux series! I was so easily swept away by this one with the blogger/reader and the snarky boy next door! But I loved that Katy dished it right back to him! She kept her swooning down low and made him work for it! Lol. Caraval...do I even need to explain myself here? Lol.

THE WISE OLD WIZARD
an author who amazes you with his/her writing

Another no-brainer! Lol. Thought I'd choose different titles for her too! Needless to say Stephanie's writing sweeps me away! I positively LOOOOVED Tella though! That girl is my book sister! Lol.

THE MAIDEN IN DISTRESS
an undervalued character you wished had a bigger storyline

I don't know if I'd say Jackal was undervalued, as I felt like he became a reader favorite! I just wish he could have had more storyline or his own book or novella! He started off as villainous or adversary like but turned into quite the reluctant hero and I remember he made me laugh a lot!

THE MAGICAL SWORD
a magical item/ability you wish authors used less

I mean...I guess I don't mind the overly used item or ability, but the whole "chosen one" status can get a wee bit tiring. Being in the sense that they, the Chosen One, is the only one with THE POWER to defeat the enemy. What said power is varies of course! But then honestly, I do end up enjoying the story anyway. So I guess it just depends on the execution of it too.

THE MINDLESS VILLAIN
a phrase you cannot help but roll your eyes at

Well, I wouldn't say I roll my eyes whenever any character says "As you wish!" I actually giggle or LOL! Really the only thing that annoys me and has me eyerolling is if something gets repeated repetitively. I once recall reading a book where the heroine kept saying "Mmmm" and it was driving me nuts. She said it when she cooked, she said it when she ate, she said when she looked at the hot guy. She once said it 3 times on one page! So using any phrase in an overly repetitive way will get an intense eyeroll out of me!

THE UNTAMED DRAGON
a magical creature you wish you had as a pet

Yeah, sorry. Have to go with a dragon! And the actual it's just a dragon-dragon. No shifting into human/animals ones.

THE CHOSEN ONE
a book/series you will always root for

I mean you knew this one was coming, right? I didn't surprise anyone I hope? Lol. Although ironic that this last trope is the one I mention tiring of. Lol.
