Decided to skip the teaser this week as I was MIA on Friday when I usually write the post. I tried to add it in, but my draft would not allow me to format it properly, so I just nixed it entirely because it wasn't worth the headache! Lol.
This week's topic is: Top 10 Books I Enjoyed That Were Outside My Comfort Zone
*in no particular order
**some aren't TOO far outside my comfort zone, but they were definitely not my usual kind of read.
**some aren't TOO far outside my comfort zone, but they were definitely not my usual kind of read.
10. DARLING by K. Ancrum--this was back in the day where I had time to read different things. Usually I stray far away from "modern day" fairy tale retellings but because it was Peter Pan and because my TBR was under control (HA!) I decided to read it. While I did enjoy it, it wasn't necessarily a favorite, but one could say it was outside my comfort zone as it was very much contemporary.
9. WARCROSS by Marie Lu--this one was definitely more of a sci-fi/futuristic vibe but I ended up really enjoying it!
8. THE UNDERTAKING OF HART AND MERCY by Megan Bannen--definitely on the lighter side of things, but with just enough paranormal mayhem to keep me intrigued!
7. UNEARTHLY by Cynthia Hand--again, not too far outside my comfort zone. But "angel" books were maybe on the rare side. I can't remember if this was my first "angel" book or not, but I remember being hesitant to start it but then I gave in at some point! Lol.
6. ROYAL BLOOD by Aimee Carter--I looved Amiee's first two YA series, so I wanted to give this one a go. It was definitely more contemporary like than I would've thought, but the mystery soon came about. So it's a bit 50/50 on the comfort zone scale.
5. FINLAY DONOVAN IS KILLING IT by Elle Cosimano--I had picked this one up solely because I loved Elle's YA books. This one had no trace of paranormal or fantasy, but it was a mystery and it involved a writer, so I thought why not?
4. GLITTER by Aprilynne Pike--okay, so I don't really remember much about this one. I was searching for terms in my review archives and came across this one! I liked it, though now I can't really remember much about it. I think what put it outside my comfort zone was the blend of dystopian and historical vibes.
3. STEALING INFINITY by Alyson Noel--so time travel books are iffy for me. I enjoy the concept but sometimes the way they explain the time traveling can be too much for me and detract from my enjoyment. Noel did a pretty good job of the explaining of it as I devoured this series when I got the first book as an ARC!
2. BUTCHER & BLACKBIRD by Brynne Weaver--TBR pick! Yes, I still need to read this one but it seems to be outside my comfort zone but I've seen so many rave reviews for it, that I just gave in one day and bought it. A good ol buy 2 get 1 free sale! Lol. I feel like I might like it despite the contemporary vibe. We shall see I guess!
1. BATMAN: RESURRECTION by John Jackson Miller--another TBR pick! So I don't really read many books based on comic books (not counting the DC Icons series from some years back). Really my exposure to the comic book stories are from the movies, so it's not really my forte. But I positively LOVED the Michael Keaton Batman movies so when this book (and its sequel) was pitched as a continuation of it, I had to get it!
