Review--My Soul to Take

Taken from the back of the book from Rachel Vincent's website;

SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH
KAYLEE CAVANAUGH

She doesn't see dead people, but...

She senses when someone near her is about to die. And when that happens, a force beyond her control compels her to scream bloody murder. Literally.

Kaylee just wants to enjoy having caught the attention of the hottest guy in school. But a normal date is hard to come by when Nash seems to know more about the need to scream than she does. And when classmates start dropping dead for no apparent reason, only Kaylee knows who'll be next...

SOUL SCREAMERS
The last thing you hear before you die...

This is Rachel Vincent's first YA book and it was as delightful as her adult series. Kaylee is definitely a realistic teenager she has real problems with friends, family, and school. She is completely believable and I love that about her.

Okay I don't want to give away a lot of the plot or any spoilers so this will be short and sweet. There has been a lot of hype about this book, at least I've found a lot. Several contests going on for a signed copy too, check http://bookreviewsbyjess.blogspot.com/2009/07/contest-my-soul-to-take-soul-screamers.html for a chance to win a copy. Hurry this contest ends TONIGHT at midnight!!

Rachel Vincent also has one running on her blog that is going to end very soon, she extended it until she gets back from DC, which is today, so hurry on over if you want to enter that one too. This one is for mostly teenagers 13-19 years old. If you know a teenager then submit their first name with yours to Rachel in a comment and you're both entered to win a copy of My Soul to Take for the teenager and a choice of any of Rachel's books so far including her My Soul to Take, for yourself. http://urbanfantasy.blogspot.com/2009/07/one-for-you-one-for-me.html

There is also another contest to win a signed copy of My Soul to Take over at http://www.libraryloungelizard.com/2009/07/win-signed-copy-of-my-soul-to-take.html. All you have to do is leave is follow a few instructions to get more chances to win a signed copy.

Back to the book, Kaylee has a lot of problems to deal with. Her classmates are dying for no reason and she's determined to figure it out. Plus the hottest guy in school with a bit of a reputation has lately turned his eyes onto her and she doesn't know what to make of him. What's a girl to do when she sees her world falling apart? Everything she has ever known is not what it seems. Everyone has their secrets in this story, even the ones closest to Kaylee.

I know it's not much of review, but I feel like since this was a pretty intense YA I can't give out too much info because then it leads to spoilers that I don't want to give away. The characters are all very interesting in this story, not one of them is dull or flat, they are all unique and grab at you. This is definitely a series I am going to be sticking to. The next novel, My Soul to Save is due out in January 2010, according to another source!

Also, the free ebook of My Soul to Lose is also available and is a prequel to My Soul to Take, in which an event was mentioned and My Soul to Lose is the story of that event. It is not important to read this, but it's free and was a great read. I posted a review and link down a few posts ago, but here is a link to Rachel's blog where she has easy access links to get to the ebook. http://urbanfantasy.blogspot.com/2009/07/easy-ebook-links.html

And don't forget to enter the contests!! They expire soon! Today! Enter now!
