This week's question is: How do you cure a book hangover/blogging slump/reading slump? - Suggested by Take Me Away...

MY ANSWER: I guess it's kind of unoriginal, but I've never found myself in a book hangover/blogging or reading slump. I enjoy reading and blogging and there's SO much I want to read and blog about that I just keep moving from book to book. So, sorry, no tips or tricks because I've had no cause to need them.

SAVOR Excerpt:
Savor (The Empire Chronicles #4) Alyssa Rose Ivy Excerpt

“I’m glad you don’t want me dead.” He smirked. Even his smirk was sexy.
“I’d be on my own if you were.” I put my hands behind my head.
“And you don’t like being alone?” He studied me in the darkness. Sometimes I wished neither of us had night vision. It left you so naked, never having an opportunity to hide.
“I do most of the time.”
“But not always?” His eyes raked over my body. The fact that he could make such a platonic conversation feel sexual gave me even more reason to resist him.
“Why does it matter?” Often the best way to avoid a question is to ask your own.
“It matters because I asked it.” And there went his mouth again.
My annoyance gave me back my will power. “Put a shirt on.”
“Why?” He grinned. “Am I distracting you?”
“No, but we should go. The sun will be up soon enough.”
“Maybe I shouldn’t go with you.” He sat up, swinging his legs off the side of the bed.
“No way.” I moved to standing. “You’re not backing out.”
“Why do you care?” He stood with his back to me. “You can do this alone.”
“Of course I can.”
He turned to me. “Then why does it matter if I go my own way?” He pulled on his t-shirt, and a little part of me missed the view.
“Because we agreed to help each other out. I stick to my promises.” That was one of my good traits. The not so good traits weren’t worth reflecting on.
“Maybe I don’t.”
“You do.” I put a hand on my hip. I didn’t have time for Jared’s games.
“How do you know?”
“I just do.”
“You’re infuriating.”
I groaned. “And what are you?”
“Charming.”
If I’d had liquid in my mouth I would have spit it out. “Not exactly the word I’d use to describe you.”
“Says the girl begging me to stay with her.”
“I never begged.” I crossed my arms over my chest.
“Would you beg?” His grin was his undoing.
“Is that how you like it, Jared? With your women begging?”
“I wasn’t talking about how I like my women.”
“Are you sure about that?” I grabbed my backpack and headed into the cabin’s small bathroom.
“Where are you going?”
I paused with my hand on the door. “To shower.”

ARC Review--Savor by Alyssa Rose Ivy

Jared is Vera's perfect man—until he opens his mouth. An incredible body and set of wings can only go so far when everything he says seems designed to make her mad. Still, she can't deny her intense attraction or the fact that he is the closest thing she has to a friend.

Jared doesn't go for bear shifters, especially ones that are related to his ex, but he can't resist Vera's charm or the way she understands him better than anyone else.

I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review, I was in no way compensated for this review.

Alyssa Rose Ivy continues The Empire Chronicles with Savor, but this time, a new heroine and hero are at the helm. Jared and Vera are an unlikely duo, but at the same time, they manage to click with one another. Vera wants to go back home and confront her mother and meet her real father, while Jared is a on mission to find his mother. Their paths are the same it seems, but danger is never far behind.

I only have very vague recollections of what was happening last time with Casey and Toby, and since we have a new heroine and hero, I figure that's okay. But I still wish I had had gobs of time so I could re-read stuff before diving into a continuation or spinoff. I digress.

I loved Jared! I've loved him from the get-go really. And you have no idea, I am still reeling in shock over Tiffany, despite the time I've had to accept. I really thought when we first met Tiffany in the Crescent Chronicles that she would be the one for Jared. But I must say, I do like Vera! Vera is sassy and matches Jared perfectly in the attitude department. So naturally, these two click right away. But alas, they don't want to make anything permanent just yet. They aren't even using "yet" that's just me. They're just happy having fun together. In a way, they do care for one another, but there hasn't been any declarations of true love yet. But I suspect by the end of their story, they'll get there!

For awhile, I wasn't sure what the story would unfold to us, but once we start getting deeper into the plot, secrets arise and prophecies start popping up. Again, the term "prophecy" is my doing, but it's the best word I can use for some of the situations. Though we don't really get that prophecy in full. We get teases of there being some great power to come and behold. Of course I am getting over a cold, so perhaps I missed something and it was explained. It happens.

Regardless, I enjoyed this one just as I have enjoyed just about all Alyssa's Paranormal titles! She's one of those rare authors who writes in Paranormal New Adult and I find myself at the edge of my seat waiting for her next release! Don't even get me started on her Dire Wolves Chronicles! Oh goodness, I likely won't ever shut up! LOL!

While the pacing wasn't as fast as I would've liked, I do blame that partially on my head-cold, it was still a decently paced novel. The ending is what sets us up for more adventures in what is likely to be yet another trilogy of awesomeness. All I can say is when's the next book come out?

If you're a fan of paranormal titles I highly recommend this one! Not only are Alyssa's shifters a bit different than what you normally see, the lore behind them is unique in its way too. This is a world series that basically always has me call for more, more, more, and I just hope that Alyssa has plenty to provide me for the years to come!

ARC Review--Rogue by Julie Kagawa

Ember Hill left the dragon organization Talon to take her chances with rebel dragon Cobalt and his crew of rogues. But Ember can't forget the sacrifice made for her by the human boy who could have killed her—Garret Xavier Sebastian, a soldier of the dragonslaying Order of St. George, the boy who saved her from a Talon assassin, knowing that by doing so, he'd signed his own death warrant.

Determined to save Garret from execution, Ember must convince Cobalt to help her break into the Order's headquarters. With assassins after them and Ember's own brother helping Talon with the hunt, the rogues find an unexpected ally in Garret and a new perspective on the underground battle between Talon and St. George.

A reckoning is brewing and the secrets hidden by both sides are shocking and deadly. Soon Ember must decide: Should she retreat to fight another day…or start an all-out war?

I received this ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, I was in no way compensated for this review.

Julie Kagawa is sensational! She continues to amaze me with each and every book she writes. I adored The Iron Fey Chronicles, was amazed by the Blood of Eden Trilogy, I am still loving The Call of the Forgotten Trilogy as well, and then there's the Talon series, which brings epic to a whole new level! If you love dragons, then this is the read you have been waiting for!

Rogue begins by bringing us to where we last left Ember, Garret was being taken prisoner by St. George and she was adamant to rescue him much to Riley's displeasure and so sets the course for the beginning of the novel. Garret is slated for execution for consorting and aiding the enemy against his fellow brothers-in-arms. And it should be no surprise that Ember and Riley make in the nick of time. For what would our tangled love triangle be without one of the guys around?

Meanwhile, we also continue to get Dante's point of view and he's very deep into Talon now. He is determined to bring his sister back to where she belongs whatever the cost. He believes in Talon's mission and he knows Ember does too, but has been corrupted by Riley and has forgotten her cause. And just wow. It's sad to see Dante so far gone...unless...Julie is up to something here. I never put anything past that author! She's extremely talented that way!

As far as romance goes, this is definitely one of those love triangles that will break hearts everywhere. Torn between Riley and Garret, Ember finds herself in a pickle here. While her human side is all for Garret, her dragon side has all but made her claims on Riley for her mate. We'll just have to wait and see who Ember chooses, there is after all another three books to be had! Though the wait to figure that part out might kill me a bit! I've made my choice, but I can say that it's possible for the other guy to change my mind, but so far in these two books, I've made my claim! LOL!

Ember, Riley, Garret, and Wes work together to find a pair of hatchlings who have escaped Talon. Riley has made it his life's mission to bring Talon down and help out all the dragons and hatchlings who long to escape. But St. George is hot on their trail after their rescue of Garret, and the enemy could be lurking just about anywhere in the shadows. Nowhere is safe.

Pretty epic, right? I will say that this read will totally blow your mind, so be prepared for that! And the ending, ugh! That ending! It's not cliffhanger-y per se, but I definitely didn't like how things ended. And then that epilogue, that just brought up more questions! Sigh...and to top it off, Goodreads has this outrageous notion that Solider, book 3 in the series will release in 2017. Please, someone tell me that is a typo? It has to be a typo! I can't wait that long to come back to this story!!!

Rogue was an astonishingly incredible read! And I did I mention epic, yet? It was totally epic too! This is the read I never knew I wanted until I started reading it! The Talon series is fast becoming my favorite in rival to Julie's Iron Fey Chronicles. I just hope that the wait for the next book isn't as long as I fear it is! My heart can't take it if it is!

ARC Review--The Clouded Sky by Megan Crewe

When seventeen-year-old Skylar escapes the time-bending Enforcers who secretly control Earth, her troubles have just begun. She and her friend Win take refuge on Win’s home space station with his fellow rebels, but the fate of Skylar’s planet still spins out of her control.

To avoid detection, Skylar poses as the Earthling “pet” of Win’s rival, an arrogant boy named Jule. Homesick and faced with a cool reception from the other rebels, she throws herself into the group’s mission: assembling a weapon to disable Earth’s restrictive time field. Gradually, Skylar’s skill for detail gains respect—even from Jule, who is more vulnerable than he lets on.

Yet challenges spring from every side. Not only must Sky navigate the muddy waters of romance, but suspicions of betrayal grow among the rebels as their work narrowly misses sabotage.

In the latest in Megan Crewe’s Earth & Sky series, can Skylar expose the traitor before time runs out and Earth is destroyed?

I received this ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, I was in no way compensated for this review.

So immediately after reading Megan Crewe's Earth & Sky, I dove right into The Clouded Sky, which picks up right where we leave off and oh wow! This one was just as epic as the first and there were soooo many twists and turns! Some I was able to predict, but naturally, there were things that totally blew me out of the water and I am still left in shock. When does the third book come out now? Netgalley will get it as an automatic read again, right?! The wait is going to be agonizing!!

Skylar leaves Earth with Win to go to his planet to help the rebels in their cause. They want to put a stop to Kemya's interfering with Earth and basically move on to finding their own home. They want to destroy the device that does all the monitoring and manipulating, and with Skylar's help and Jeanette's plans it's a possibility.

So remember that guy, Jule? Not sure if I mentioned him, he had only a brief role. But he was kind of a jerk. Well, that jerk is about to play a much larger role in this installment. Jule agrees to be Skylar's "keeper", it's the only plausible way to explain her presence on their space station that is their home away from home. Skylar is to be Jule's pet, which is basically as it sounds like. A Kemyate taking in a human for a pet because they're so fascinating! Which doesn't sit well with Skylar at all, but Jule is truly the only one she can safely stay with that won't arise suspicions.

I was throwing all the praises at the first book for not having a love triangle and I really did speak too soon, because wouldn't you know it, Jule isn't as such an a-hole like we thought! He has a different side to himself that he slowly shows Skylar in the time they spend together. He has had it rough over the years and only acts like an ass to put up a good show. And sure enough, things progress rather fast between these two. While it wasn't a straight up case of insta love, it was close. There were still times these two didn't get along, but, yeah, pretty soon Skylar and Jule are a couple. So sorry, Win.

The other larger part of the story involves a traitor in the rebel group's midst. Someone is leaking information to the Enforcers as the group is trying to move forward with their plan. There are some close calls and soon Skylar finds herself doing some investigating to learn who the traitor is. Being a pet she can easily move around unseen for the most part and she's been teaching herself the Kemyate's language with the programs on the computer she uses in Jule's place.

Once again, I found myself enjoying this book, but yet, there were times things just didn't move quite as fast as I would've like. Things dragged a bit. It took awhile to get to the action scenes, but again, once we got to those particular scenes, I was in full enjoyment mode! This read had a little more suspense than its predecessor. Mainly because Skylar is in an undercover role looking for a traitor. And oh wow, I started to make a guess as to who it was literally a chapter before Skylar got to the conclusion herself. And then after which, I felt let down by it. I can't really get into the whys or else I'll let a spoiler loose, so take that comment as you will!

The ending, oh my god, that ending!!! What the freaking freak?!!! Endings like this, or any cliffhanger, really need to be illegal! LOL! It's an ending that is so jaw-dropping and shocking, you're left blown away by it, I was shaking...and now...now I'm miffed I have to wait until the end of October for the conclusion. So please, Netgalley, get A Sky Unbroken up asap!! Times like these I regret binging a trilogy but having to wait for the third book. What on Earth was I thinking? LOL!

Again, I'll say if you're looking for a nice Sci-Fi YA series, this is one you should definitely check out! It's far different than I was expecting. The aliens don't really feel "alien", but as you'll learn, they are still dangerous individuals! The Clouded Sky was a phenomenal followup to Earth & Sky and I will be counting down the days to October! As if I wasn't already!

This week's topic is:  Top Ten Books Which Feature Characters Who Have Magical Abilities

*in no particular order

1. YELENA from Maria Snyder's Study Series--girl's got talent! It was expounded upon. I LOVE this series!!
2. SAVANNAH from Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld Series--true, there are lots of witches and magically talented people in this series, but Savannah was always one of my faves! Such a spunky attitude!
3. KATE from Marianne Curley's Old Magic--one of my all time faves! Kate was the quiet kind of girl in class but she wields wicked powers! And her grandmother, I believe it was, is even more powerful! So super cool!

4. LILY from Juliet Blackwell's Witchcraft Mystery Series--a naturally talented witch! Love this series and Lily's knack for solving mysteries and using her witchy ways!
5. CHLOE from Kelley Armstrong's Darkest Powers Trilogy--Chloe while not a witch, is still a pretty powerful nercromancer! She and all her friends are talented in their own way!
6. CLEO from Morgan Rhodes' Falling Kingdoms Series--this series is truly filled with powerful people. Cleo may not have magical abilities herself, but I feel like she's pretty powerful in her own right! Then of course, there's Lucia who is capable of magical powers!

7. MEG from Anne Bishop's Other Series--Meg is a powerful cassandra sangue. And she's also powerful in the sense that she was able to change a community of Others into accepting her, which was a pretty brave feat.
8. RACHEL MORGAN from Kim Harrison's Hollow Series--Rachel is a powerful witch, so enough said really! She makes mistakes but she owns up to them and can pretty much always set things right.
9. LAYLA from Jennifer Armentrout's Dark Elements Trilogy--Layla is powerful! So powerful people fear her. She's definitely a force to be reckoned with and I SO cannot wait for the final book!

10. EVERYONE from the Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling--who to choose?! There are sooooo many characters to choose from! It's impossible!

ARC Review--Ice Kissed by Amanda Hocking

Bryn Aven has always longed to be a part of the Kanin world.

Though she has no social status because she’s a half-breed, she refuses to give up on her dream of serving the kingdom she loves. It’s a dream that brings her to a whole new realm . . . the glittering palace of the Skojare.

The Skojare people need protection from the same brutal rival who’s been threatening the Kanin, and, being half Skojare herself, it’s a chance for Bryn to learn more about her heritage. Her boss Ridley Dresden is overseeing her mission and wants to help. He’s always been her most trusted friend—but as their undeniable attraction heats up, he becomes a distraction she can’t afford.

Brynn is about to discover that the Skojare world is full of secrets, and as she’s drawn in deeper and deeper, she doesn’t know who to trust. As she gets closer to Ridley, she realizes she may not even be able to trust her own heart.

I received this ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I was in no way compensated for this review.

Amanda Hocking continues Bryn Aven's journey in Ice Kissed and it definitely lives up to its predecessor, if not more! The story really picks up in intrigue, as there is still a lot we don't know! Normally this would bother me, and in a sense, it still does, but Bryn is relentless. She won't let the nagging feeling that something isn't right go, so I am right there with her in her mystery solving!

We pretty much pick up where we left off in Frostfire, Bryn and Ridley return home after losing Konstantin while at the Skojare palace. We also learn that Konstantin is working with Viktor Dalig, who was once a prisoner in the Kanin palace. He was enraged when his daughter was passed up for ruling the kingdom and enacted revenge, he was imprisoned, but escape. He was also the one who led to Ridley's father's murder. Keeping Viktor a secret from Ridley does put a temporary cramp in whatever relationship Bryn was having with him, but soon that factoid is all too soon forgotten.

War is imminent, that much has been clear since the beginning. But we still don't get too much of the whys behind it. We do learn that it's focusing around Konstantin and Viktor and whatever their nefarious plans are. Bryn is still convinced there's more to Konstantin's story and actions. He warned her back in the prison to run while she could, but gave no reason as to why. He remains to be a man  of mystery and it's a tad aggravating, but not in the sense that the book is bad or unenjoyable. Just the fact that I am a very impatient person and wanting to know who Konstantin is, is really starting to kill me! It doesn't help that we don't see all that much of him in this book, but I suspect that will be different in the final installment of the trilogy.

This time we see Bryn working with Kasper, her best friend's boyfriend and soon-to-be father. They are sent on a mission to find the queen of the Skojare who has gone missing. Once again, we see quite a bit of mystery and puzzlement with the Skojare in their kingdom. There's just a sense of wonkiness going on. But every time Bryn tries to dig for answers, she is stonewalled by royalty. I still don't quite get what Konstantin and Viktor are planning, or how the Skojare play into things...and that's the part that is driving me batty! I feel like we haven't been given enough clues. We've gotten little pieces here and there, but the big picture remains a mystery to me and will continue to be so until August! AUGUST I tell you!!! This is April!!!

I was a bit pleased to see more romance happening between Bryn and Ridley, though it still remains the forbidden kind. The "we can't be together, but we want to be together" kind. For awhile this got irritating, especially since I felt like every time they moved forward a bit, they took ten steps back. But just as we think things might finally be in their favor...chaos happens! And I mean big time! The ending was soooo chaotic! I loved it! But seriously, I am now left hanging and desperate to see how these characters will get out of the bind they find themselves in!!

Ice Kissed was quite the suspenseful and mysterious read! I say it was even better than Frostfire, and Frostfire was amazing as well! This series is definitely an enjoyable one and I have come to be so invested in it! Bryn is an amazing character and what I love about her is that she's an outcast among her people, yet she cares so much to be apart of them. She's got a good head on her shoulders, but she can be stubborn at times and it almost makes me want to slap her upside the head, but a character who is remarkably good should have some flaws, she's more real that way!

I cannot wait until Crystal Kingdom releases! It's going to be epic! That much I know! The tension is thick and the end is nearly here! It's going to be a long wait until August, that's for sure!
