 I love being surrounded by other book bloggers who love reading the same thing I do! For years, I had no one else who shared my reading interest and now I have 1000s!!

Not only do I love sharing my own opinions and views on the books I read. But I love reading other blogger's opinions! Especially when it comes to books I am not too sure of! It's nice getting other people's opinions!

The books are awesome! And can we say review books and ARCs?! I love getting a book early and reading it! I devour those!

THE COMMENTS

Ohhhh the comments! How I love reading and getting comments! In the beginning, I rarely got any. Like none! So when I see comments these days, I get giddy with excitement, because I'm like...OMG! People are reading my reviews and posts!!

THE GIVEAWAYS

I love entering giveaways and winning...who doesn't? But I also love hosting them! I love gift giving too! I love putting thought behind the gifts I give and I use that along with giveaways too when I can!

Cover Art Reveals--Some Girls Bite & White Hot Kiss

So here are some cover reveals! The first is for the Mass Market release of Some Girls Bite, compared to the older one on the right:

Okay, I like the new one, not saying anything is wrong with it, but I have to say, I like the old one better. The old one shows Merit as we meet her. True she turns vampire, but she was a jeans wearing, tank-top layered kind of chick. She wasn't the kickass leather-wearing, sword-wielding Sentinel that we come to know and love. Her fashion choices definitely change over the covers and it's not til book 3 that the leather breaks out, which I think was an appropriate time. The new cover for book 1 in the series just seems to be jumping the gun a bit in character development. But it's still pretty damn cool!

Now I like it! It's super hot and definitely showing off the "kiss" part very well! Jennifer has made some sort of comment that there's something about the cover, but she didn't really say what it was. I don't think it was a negative remark, but you know how hard it is to read context in writing!

My issue, slight as it may be is, wasn't this supposed to be a YA novel? To me the cover looks more fitting on an adult read or even NA. Double checking the description gave me a big fat yes, since the heroine is 17. I like it regardless, but just wondering if it's a little too risque for a YA read?

What do you guys think? 

White Hot Kiss releases sometime...really cannot figure it out! Seeing wayyy too many different release dates ranging from December 2013 to January 2014 to March 2014. You already know what my vote would be!

Review--The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan

In Mary's world there are simple truths.

And you must always mind the fence that surrounds the village. The fence that protects the village from the Forest of Hands and Teeth. 

But, slowly, Mary’s truths are failing her. She’s learning things she never wanted to know about the Sisterhood and its secrets, and the Guardians and their power. And when the fence is breached and her world thrown into chaos, about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness. 

Now she must choose between her village and her future, between the one she loves and the one who loves her. And she must face the truth about the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Could there be life outside a world surrounded in so much death?

So I've had Carrie Ryan's The Forest of Hands and Teeth in TBR pile for way too long now and I decided to give it a go. It was quite an interesting read, yet not thoroughly satisfying. There was a lot of world building, but I kind of felt lost to it. Like I wasn't sure where I was or even when--which I think was deliberate, but still, I was definitely a bit lost. The characters were pretty good, yet at times I felt like our heroine wasn't quite sure what she wanted from life either, hence making the story and her moving forward quite a bit confusing.

Mary lives a simple life in her village. She knows to never go near the fence line where the Unconsecrated dwell, because then they could grab her and turn her into one of them. The Unconsecrated are basically zombies and they are pretty downright freaky ones too. There is mentioning of The Return which if I understood correctly was an event in time and also related to becoming an Unconsecrated.

When Mary's mother willing makes the change to become one of the Unconsecrated to follow her husband from some time past, Mary takes it hard. Worse, her older brother Jed blames her for it and practically shuns her. With no one else to turn to, she goes to the Sisterhood, a group of nuns that kind of run the village and basically joins them because there's nothing else to choose unless she too chooses the life of an Unconsecrated and she loathes that idea.

Soon her childhood crush, Travis comes to the church because he's been injured and the Sisterhood is like a hospital too. Mary cares for him, prays for him and all that jazz and if even possible falls in love with him even more. But nothing can be done for it because he is betrothed to Cass, her best friend. And before she knows it, her life at the Sisterhood comes to an end and she's betrothed to Harry, Travis's younger brother, who's been in love with her forever.

And basically a whole complicated love-shape-thingy begins, because Mary loves Travis but is betrothed to Harry, Travis loves Mary but is betrothed to Cass, Cass grows to love Harry but is betrothed to Travis, and Harry loves Mary and he's betrothed to her, so he's pretty happy about that. So yeah. Things are definitely messy in the love area. Travis and Mary try for some stolen moments together, but never seems to go the way they want it too. Travis feels obligated to let his brother have Mary because that would make Harry happy. Things just get weird in that area, it was hard to keep up with all the excuses as to why everyone could not be with who they wanted!

Other tidbits that confused me in this story was the Sisterhood themselves. These nuns are pretty weird. The way they run their village with all these rules. It's crazy. Plus, they are keeping all sorts of secrets. Like why an outsider has come to their village and seems to be taken prisoner within the church. Mary sees her through the window and learns that her name is Gabrielle. She's curious about this Gabrielle and where she comes from. Mary longs to go somewhere else, to see the ocean her mother always talked about when she was a child. Mary is quite the dreamer, she would always tell her mother's stories to her friends. 

But after the Unconsecrated attack her village, Mary along with Harry, Travis, Jed, his wife, Cass and a young boy are forced to run. They run out of their village that's lined by a fence onto a path that was pretty much forbidden to them, in hopes of finding escape and refuge. Mary longs to find the ocean in her quest too. Stranger still is when Mary sees that one of the Unconsecrated is Gabrielle and she moves super fast compared to the slow shuffle of the others. Which draws me back to, what the freak is up with the Sisterhood?

The pacing to this one dragged a bit as the group was constantly running and trying to find somewhere safe and find food and water. It was a lot of moving around and trying to fight the Unconsecrated. And by the end, well, just wow. So wasn't expecting all that to happen. There were quite a few losses is all I'll say.

I am not so sure I will be continuing this story. It was good for the most part, but I just couldn't quite get into it as well as I had hoped I would. Parts of it reminded me of the movie, The Village, since you know they all live in a village in olden days and it's really modern day. Here though it feels like modern days and yet they are living in the past...while trying to keep safe from the Unconsecrated.

There were just too many questions pondering in my head. As well as not being able to truly connect with the characters. I won't say that I hated the book or the characters. I just felt kind of detached. It was a very intriguing read though.

Well, I'd have to get a copy of this one, but it would be:

Werewolves by Kelley Armstrong

It's printed in Canada only according to Goodreads, but this bad boy has Bitten, Stolen and a prequel novella: Beginnings in it! 

So that's 2.5 books in ONE book itself! So that counts! ;)

But speaking theoretically, I'd quite possibly die if this was the case of my life! 1 book for the rest of eternity?! Insanity, here I come!!

The Mammoth Book of Paranormal Romance

ONE book with multiple paranormal short stories by many authors! That way things are spiced up for the rest of life!

Review--Hourglass by Myra McEntire

One hour to rewrite the past . . .

For seventeen-year-old Emerson Cole, life is about seeing what isn't there: swooning Southern Belles; soldiers long forgotten; a haunting jazz trio that vanishes in an instant. Plagued by phantoms since her parents' death, she just wants the apparitions to stop so she can be normal. She's tried everything, but the visions keep coming back.
 
When her well-meaning brother brings in a consultant from a secretive organization called the Hourglass, Emerson's willing to try one last cure. But meeting Michael Weaver may not only change her future, it may also change her past.

Who is this dark, mysterious, sympathetic guy, barely older than Emerson herself, who seems to believe every crazy word she says? Why does an electric charge seem to run through the room whenever he's around? And why is he so insistent that he needs her help to prevent a death that never should've happened?

When I decided to read Myra McEntire's Hourglass, I was expecting a good ghost story. I mean Emerson does see ghosts, but what I got was something quite different. Sure there are ghosts, but there's something more connected to these ghosts that Emerson sees. A whole lot more. 

Emerson's seen ghosts since she was thirteen, just before her parents died in a horrific accident. Her older brother is her guardian, as Emerson was a later surprise to her parents, hence the near 20 years age difference between her and her brother, Thomas.

Emerson has tried quite a lot of things to stop seeing ghosts; medicines, going to different counselors, trying out schools far away...but ghosts always seem to pop up around her, especially in areas with a great history behind them. The fact that her brother redesigns old buildings and makes them usable probably doesn't help her situation either. Add to that fact, that there's a ghost haunting her room and things are just right all dandy!

A quite baffling occurrence leads Emerson to have a new "counselor", one who's just a few years older than her. Why her brother thought this was a nifty idea is beyond me! But hey, it works for the story. When Michael tells Emerson he sees the same things she does, she is a tad skeptical. The girl may seem meek and frail--since she's short; yay us short people!--but she can kick ass! And if fact, does so to Michael at one of their earlier meetings!

Michael likes to keep his secrets, he doesn't always tell Emerson the full truth and that's when she takes things into her own hands! Gotta love the girl for that! She does what she believes is right. If someone is lying to her, she'll discover the truth on her own. And Michael, while he may not be lying, he is omitting a lot of truth.

When Michael starts to talk about things other than ghosts, well things go from weird to holy-friggin-crap-weird! I don't want to say what this is, since it totally took me by surprise and hence changed what I thought the story was going to be about, but it wasn't a bad surprise at all!

Emerson is definitely a likable heroine! I enjoyed her wit and humor. Her ability to handle the weird and unexplainable was quite realistic. Her attraction to Michael was pretty much a guarantee from the moment he stepped on the page, but Myra likes to throw a few obstacles in the way. Such as Ava, a girl who "works" with Michael and lives in the same house with him--as do the other "coworkers"--and then of course there's Kaleb who likes Emerson quite a bit! And since Michael is pretty adamant that there can't be a relationship between him and Emerson, Kaleb isn't looking too bad!

I really liked this story! I thought it was fun and oh-so mysterious! Just as you think things are wrapping up, more mysteries and shockers are thrown your way! By the end I am left reeling! What's going to happen next? Luckily, this trilogy is already published up, so I can go out and buy the next book. 

One of the only issues I had with this book was the sudden love that we had by the end. Not saying who with, but Emerson is a definite obvious participant. Just as she is cementing a relationship with her guy, they're throwing the word "love" out there. I guess it was just too soon for me, because I was thinking, "you're seventeen!". I know that's how YA books tend to roll, but for the most part, the l-word takes time to say. I guess that's what bothered me the most, that the characters were throwing this word out there in book 1 instead of waiting another book. But truly, that's about my only complaint. 

Hourglass was a very mysterious read filled with adventure and so many twists and turns. You're never sure who to trust, Emerson can't always identify who are real people or who are ghosts, so trusting what's real and not, is a very difficult matter! I so can't wait to see how the rest of this trilogy goes!

Emma is another of those great friends whose always their for our heroine! She sticks by Kaylee through it all and Kaylee for her! The two are great friends and Emma was just so freaking awesome!

When Sabine first walked onto the page I hated her! I thought she was such a b*tch for trying to get between Kaylee and Nash. Then as the books kept coming, I started to understand her a bit more and the hate went away. Overall she turned out to be a helluva character and one I grew to love!

Funny how all secondary characters tend to be friends of the heroine! But here we go again, I loved Ivy in this series! She was a riot! And her hats, who could forget them! She was such a delight and while she may not always have understood Alexia, she was still a great friend to her!

from Kevin Hearne's Iron Druid series

Well, he is man's best friend! Oberon is without the doubt one of my most favorite animals in series overall! I guess because he and Atticus talk to one another! Oberon's mind is so doggie like and he brings much needed comedic doggie relief to the tense moments in the series.

9. AMY

from Shannone Delany's 13 to Life series

Amy was yet another awesome friend to Jessie in one of my fave YA series ever! She had a tough time of life herself, yet she still remained a strong character! Gotta love her for that!

10. MALONE

from Rachel Vincent's Shifters series

Decided to throw a villain in here. I tried to think of a villain that I just loathed! I mean really truly hated! And who came to mind was Rachel's Malone character! He was a dastardly bastard! And when you truly, truly just hate a character so much because they are so despicable...that's great writing and a pretty great character too! Even if he is slime!

Early Review--Soul Kissed by Erin Kellison

Erin Kellison's Soul Kissed is the second book in her Shadow Kissed series, which is sort of a continuation of her Shadow books. Basically the series as a whole is Shadow, but the series is broken up into smaller series...possibly trilogies but will have to wait til after the third Shadow Kissed book.

Moving on...I still very much enjoy this series! Calling it Dark Fantasy is the best category choice! It's not quite Urban Fantasy or even Paranormal Romance, but there are "strange" or "paranormal-like" elements to it, hence the "Fantasy" part and the "Dark" is there because, well, it's filled with Shadows and other baddies that just scream dark side!

This time around we have Cari, a young woman mage, dealing with the death of her father caused by a magical plague. She is now the ruler of her mage house. She is determined to find her father's murderer and bring about justice and to help is her Mason, a Stray, the product of a human and mage. It's a complicated mess to say the least, but Erin tells it remarkably well so that you aren't confused. Mason has a son who is his whole world and does everything he can to protect him.

Mason and Cari shared a connection years ago as teenagers, but alas, Mason had a girlfriend, a bitchy one too who basically left Mason with his son, Fletcher. Fletcher is a very powerful boy for eight years old and he will only get more powerful as he grows older.

Cari also has her own secret, a powerful fae possesses her. It's more like a cohabitation thing, but Cari does lose time, loses moments of herself when the fae decides to take control. It's not a pleasant thing. Especially when it becomes the reason why the angels want to kill her.

Cari and Mason were quite the pair. Both were stubborn in their own rights, but they have a shared past with one another. It didn't take too long before old feelings returned. I loved the romance between them. It was sort of a forbidden love since Mason is a stray and Cari a mage, but they didn't care. Like really, truly didn't care! 

It was great seeing returning characters from the series such as Kaye and Jack from the previous book in this series and even the gang from the previous series like Talia, Adam, Custo and even Khan! I like that this series continues to connect even if they are separate on some level.

The pacing to this one was good as well! Another seductively, dark fantasy meant to suck you into its world! Erin Kellison can write a wickedly good novel that's for sure, and there's no question about it that Soul Kissed was wickedly good!!

The ending to this one was nice as well! Not quite a HEA ending, but enough of one. There are still many problems going on in this world of Shadows Erin has created and I look forward to following them to the very end! Which hopefully won't be for a long while!
