This week's topic is: Well-Recommended Books That Don't Really Attract You

*in no particular order

Oh this is a hard topic! It's going to make some people upset that I can't get hooked on popular reads! Please don't take any offense to the titles that I am about to show you!

THE HUNGER GAMES
by Suzanne Collins

Even before the popularity and the movie making of this series, it was one that I just couldn't get into. The premise just didn't grab at my attention enough.

FALLEN
by Lauren Kate
This is a series that seems to be hit or miss with some people. And after reading reviews I kinda came to the conclusion that it wasn't going to be the one for me. The covers are absolutely gorgeous though!!

DELIRIUM
by Lauren Oliver

This is another one that I know is popular yet it just didn't really grab my attention when I went to look into it. It's funny, my sister is reading these books that aren't really grabbing my attention!

MATCHED
by Allie Condie

Apparently I'm not doing well with dystopian novels! I like some, but I am just much more interested in a book if there's some sort of paranormal element going on!

CITY OF BONES
by Cassandra Clare

I see these around a lot! Especially the one that's about to release this year. These just didn't really grab my attention when I looked into them. They still sound a little intriguing. I just don't think I'll ever take the time to read them.

Mini Review--Something Wikkid This Way Comes by Nicole Peeler

Capitola, Moo, and Shar are the halfling ladies of Triptych: supernatural private investigators who get paid to clean up paranormal messes.

Normally Cappie doesn't take human cases, but who can resist a priest, missing Catholic school girls, and a creature that may or may not be the Prince of Darkness?

A story set in the world of Nicole Peeler's Jane True series.

Something Wikkid This Way Comes is yet another fabulous novella, this time by the lovely Nicole Peeler! While we don't get to see  our fave heroine Jane, we do get to see more of her world of supernatural peeps!

It's been awhile since I read the last Jane True book, so I can't remember if all these ladies were in it, I think they might have been, but my memory is just really fuzzy. Regardless it was quite fun!

We still get some of the same snark that we get from Jane and crew! Cappie, Moo and Shar are quite the trio. And when they are asked to look into a case at a high school for girls, where girls have been going missing they decide to take it since there seems to be some Satanic cult action going on as well!

The mystery itself was pretty good, I kind of had an eye on the who-done-it, but there was still oh so much more that I was missing to the case! All three go undercover at the school in order to find out who the bad guy might be and all.

There were some definite laughs along the way! At some points it seemed a little slow, but it was only because the girls didn't have many leads, but once they did get one, it took them to the rest of the mystery!

My fave part was the very end when there was a lovely Scooby-Doo reference! Kudos to Nicole for that!! I loved it! The trio's friendship has some real strong bonds and this is evident throughout the story and I liked that. It made them seem human even though not one them truly is!

Mini Review--The Goddess Hunt by Aimee Carter

A vacation in Greece sounds like the perfect way for Kate Winters to spend her first sabbatical away from the Underworld...until she gets caught up in an immortal feud going back millennia. Castor and Pollux have been on the run from Zeus and Hades' wrath for centuries, hiding from the gods who hunt them. The last person they trust is Kate, the new Queen of the Underworld. Nevertheless, she is determined to help their cause. But when it comes to dealing with immortals, Kate still has a lot to learn....

Aimee Carter's The Goddess Hunt was a pretty interesting read! It delved into the myth of Gemini, one I wasn't overly familiar with, but this was quite fun!

Being novella 1.5 we get to see Kate on vacation in Greece, Athens particularly--which is absolutely beautiful!! I went there on my spring break trip as a high school senior, among other places. But Kate wasn't seeing the sites on this day, no she was wandering aimlessly in a forest with James, because he was set on seeing "something" there.

Turns out he knew where the brothers were hiding, having been on the run for 1,000s of years after Pollux got Castor out of the Underworld. It's hard to see what James might be planning at this time, but he and Kate talk to the brothers and soon Kate is sympathizing with them. All they want is to be together, they're brothers, twins. They have a brotherly connection going on. It's really not creepy, so don't think that!

As far as novellas go, it was pretty good! Kate gets a  little mini test of what her time as queen of the Underworld might be like. But things get wayyy out of hand when some of the other gods and goddesses start popping up. So much for vacation, right?

It was entertaining as short as it was. I liked seeing what Kate was doing during her time in Greece! There were a few moments that I thought stretched out a little too much, but nothing horrid. I sooo look forward to the next novella come summer time and of course the next book in the series.

This week's question is: Do you read one book at a time or do you switch back and forth between two or more?

MY ANSWER: I'm a one book at a time girl! During the school years I had to balance 3-4 school books and one of my own--otherwise I would go crazy without reading something I enjoyed! Having finished school now, yay!, I just read one book at a time! Before I started working pt I would be reading fairly quick, but now my pace is slower. But hey, I get a paycheck now and that means MORE BOOKS!

TGIF is a weekly feature created and hosted by GReads! that re-caps the week’s posts and has different question each week.

This week's question is: Book Blogger Retreat: If you could gather up a handful of book blogger friends to spend a weekend away talking books, where would you go? Tell us about it.

MY ANSWER: Hmm...well my first response can no longer be true, I would've said the humongous Borders store that they had in Michigan, I forgot the term they used for it...complex? No, that doesn't sound right. Anyway, it was just basically a HUGE Borders store! Never did get to go, but I think that would've been fun! We could've commandeered some armchairs and couches and just talked books all day!

I still say that sounds like fun, even though there's no Borders and I have yet to find a Barnes and Noble store I really like, but I would want to be in a like a big bookstore and commandeering the chairs and couches and just vegging out! And then when we were done, probably an hour before closing ;) we'd hit the shelves and buy all the books we needed, likely ones we discussed!!

Random Thursday

Does anyone else remember the old Disney cartoons they used to have on Disney Channel? Like the Mickey Mouse cartoons! Those were fun!

Some other faves that I was thinking of were ones that were like the spin offs from the movies! Such as Aladdin, The Little Mermaid and even Goof Troop!! I remember when I was little my mom would tape them for me so I had something to watch whenever I wanted! I might still have them but their condition is probably spotty!

Aladdin was kind of what happens after the first movie--but I guess they ignored the fact that they got married. Perhaps this was everything that happened before that! It's funny because at the end of the first movie we're led to believe that they did get married and fly off into the moonlight on Carpet, yet it's not til a movie later, with the third one that they actually got married. What's up with that?!

The Little Mermaid was all Ariel's adventures before the first movie! Which is funny because I remember an episode of two where Ursula was there, but in the movie it was like the first time Ariel met her!

Goof Troop, I can't remember too much about it, besides Goofy, Max, Pete and his son, daughter and wife! It was just Goofy being goofy!

Regardless they were all entertaining! You know from a kid's p.o.v.! Heck, I'd watch em still, but I don't think they are on anymore. They used to be on Toon Disney when we still had it, but then that changed to Disney XD, because they no longer played cartoons on it.

And that's another thing, what's up with the cartoon channels like that and even Cartoon Network playing not-cartoon shows? That's just stupid. I like cartoons, I'm 24 and I like cartoons yet there are hardly any good ones on anymore! I have to buy them on DVDs and then it's still a pain to load them in the player because I just want some nonsense on--that's bearable--while I do this and that!

What other cartoons do you guys remember watching? Anything Disney in particular?

Waiting on Wednesday

I hate waiting
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly blog post by Jill over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights releases we're eagerly awaiting.

As a living descendant of Artemis the Huntress, private investigator Nikki Glass knows how to track someone down. But when an Oracle shows up, warning the descendants about wild dog attacks in Washington D.C., Nikki is afraid it might be a trap. The Olympians believe the “dogs” are jackals, controlled by a blood-crazed descendant of the Egyptian death-god Anubis. Whatever. . . . If Nikki hopes to muzzle Dogboy, she’s got to catch him in the act. But when she stakes out a local cemetery, she ends up face-to-snout with a snarling pack of shadow-jackals whose bite is worse than their bark. These hellhounds are deadly—even for an immortal like Nikki. “Dog” spelled backwards may be “god,” but that won’t stop Nikki from teaching these old gods some new tricks. Like playing dead.

Can't wait to read this one!! Totally loved the first one and how Jenna weaves the Greek mythology into the book!! And Artemis was soooooo my fave goddess when I first learned about them in 7th grade!!

Review--Angel's Flight by Nalini Singh

In Angel’s Wolf a vampire becomes fascinated with the seductive angel who rules Louisiana. But all is not what it appears to be in her court.

In Angels’ Judgment a hunter must track one of her own gone bad, while surviving the deadly tests placed in her way by the archangels themselves. Unexpected backup comes from a stranger who might just be the most lethal threat of all...

Plus FIRST TIME IN PRINT

In Angels' Pawn a vampire hunter faces off against two rival factions and the angel manipulating them both, and a vampire whose help is not entirely selfless...

And NEVER BEFORE PUBLISHED

In Angels’ Dance an angel trapped in the mountain stronghold of the Refuge finds herself under siege by a warrior angel from a martial court.

Nalini Singh's Angel's Flight was a delightful read! Four novellas of some of the secondary characters we've seen in the Guild Hunter series! It was fun seeing some of these other gals and guys being the leads!

ANGEL'S PAWN
This was an interesting little story with Ashwini, a hunter forced to work with a vampire she's tried to kill several times over. Savvy Janiver makes her feel things, things she's not happy about feeling towards a vamp. But when she has to except his help with tracking down a female vamp that's been kidnapped and return her to her angel master and all during a turf war. Ashwini won't be too picky about the help she receives!

Rating 4/5 stars

ANGELS' JUDGMENT
Before Sara became Guild Director, she was an ordinary hunter set out on a job to find a person attacking vampires. Here she meets hot and sexy Deacon, who's there to protect her from threats. This story was totally awesome! Loved seeing how these two met and fell in love! This was probably my fave story from the collection!

Rating 5/5 stars

ANGEL'S PAWN
Noel is a vamp with a broken past, sent to Nimra by Raphael as a favor. He is to discover who among her people wants her dead. Tension grows between the two of a romantic sort, naturally! This also had a nice little mystery factor going on with a shocking end!

Rating 4/5 stars

ANGEL'S DANCE
Jessamy the kind yet broken angel and Galen, the strong barbaric angel. Two complete opposites, yet the two are drawn to one another. Galen has always been the strong sort, yet a weakness grows when he's near Jessamy. They each start to feel an attraction for one another, and Jessamy always had a hard time with trusting people since most men pursued her out of pity. It takes her awhile to truly believe in Galen's feelings. They really had to work at their relationship throughout this novella, starting with Galen saving Jessamy from an assassination attempt and then becoming her personal bodyguard! Galen is an endearing sort of man, yet at times he was a little possessive, but it was still sweet, because he truly cared so much!! There were a few moments that dragged a bit in this one, being the longest of the novellas but still highly enjoyable!

Rating 4.5/5 stars

A totally incredible anthology set in the Guild Hunter world!! A highly recommend read for all Guild Hunter fans!

Overall rating 4.5/5 stars

In My Mailbox

In My Mailbox is a weekly blog post hosted by Kirsti over at The Story Siren and inspired by Alea at Pop Culture Junkie.

I had a pretty decent week. Didn't get a whole lot but that's good on the ol' TBR pile!

This week I got:

 Obsidian by Jennifer Armentrout
Vanish by Sophie Jordan

Since everyone keeps saying awesome things about Obsidian I decided to buy the Kindle book since it was pretty cheap! And I already read Vanish but had yet to buy a keeper copy so I did!

For review from the author:

Stalking the Others by Jess Haines

Thanks again Jess! Can't wait to read it!

From review from the publisher via Netgalley--no idea why I never saw it there til yesterday--:

The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa
Dark Kiss by Michelle Rowen

Then not necessarily books, but book related and oh-so-cool, things I ordered and received this week were:

My deck of Fever Tarot cards from Karen Marie Moning's website!! They're pretty cool! Some of the pics on the cards are a little dark and hard to see, but I guess it takes getting used to! Still totally AWESOME!

My READ shirt from Shirt.Woot! I loooove it! It's a little hard to see but the letters are made of a whole bunch of things, like the 7 Dwarves, Cinderella, Moby Dick, a dragon and all other sorts of beings one would find when they read!!

And that was my week!! Not too bad! Might have to finish up my current read asap and read Julie's book instead of continuing on my "list" I had going on in my head!
