Teaser & Top Ten Tuesdays

Teaser Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by Purple Princess of The Purple Booker

Here are the rules:

1. Grab your current read
2. Open to a page
3. Pick out 2 lines that are SPOILER FREE
4. Name the title, author, etc.

I swear I went through at least three teasers before settling on this one! All were making me laugh too! Lol. If you're familiar with this series, you know this is point on with Jenks' attitude!

"Jenks smiled back, his hand dropping to the hilt of his garden sword. 'Where Rachel goes, I go. Kind of like a curse or an STD.'" p 48

TITLE: Demon's Bluff
AUTHOR: Kim Harrison
PUBLISHER: Ace
GENRE: Urban Fantasy
RELEASE DATE: October 22, 2024

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and The Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

This week's topic is: Top Ten Books Set in Another Time

*in no particular order
**I tried to stay away from straight up fantasies as those are hard to pin a time period down on. They could be in the past, but then they could be futuristic too. They're tricky that's for sure! Lol.

The Past Picks:

10. WHAT THE RIVER KNOWS by Isabel Ibanez--set in the 19th century as it says right on the cover jacket! Lol! This one almost slipped past me when I saw I was 4 & 4 for my list!
9. SOULLESS by Gail Carriger--classic steampunk pick with a paranormal twist. Although I am sketchy on its time period, possibly 18th or 19th century as well!
8. FIRELIGHT by Kristen Callihan--the early 2010s were amazing for these historical paranormal reads! This one was probably 18th or 19th century as well. If anyone has a better memory than me, please correct me in the comments! :)

7. HORSEMAN by Christina Henry--set 20 years after the supposed events of Sleepy Hollow, this would be early 1800s, like 1810 according to Google! Lol.
6. THE DIVINERS by Libba Bray--set in the 1920s! Finally finished this series last month and it was wild!

The Future Picks:

5. HUNT THE STARS by Jessie Mihalik--this gives off that futuristic type setting as there's a lot of tech that's not current! It's also set in space, so futuristic and space age-y!
4. DIVERGENT by Veronica Roth--good ol' dystopian reads! So futuristic you don't know when exactly you should be scared that this might be our future. Say what you will about Allegiant, I still count this in my favorite dystopian series ever!
3. STOLEN TIME by Danielle Rollins--while there are scenes in the past, this book can fit on either level! The future is 2077 and acts as the "current" time, but there's a lot of time travel involved in this story, so you know there's the past too!

2. SHATTER ME by Tahereh Mafi--this OG cover still baffles me to this day! Lol. But yup, another dystopic futuristic setting! Makes me fearful for our futures.
1. BLACK CITY by Elizabeth Richards--old school pick in the YA area! If memory recalls, this was a futuristic book setting, BUT it's a future where people adhere to the past in certain areas. Mostly with dress, travel, and societal systems. It was trippy but AMAZING because VAMPIRES! Lol.
