Books from the Backlog #193

Books from the Backlog is a fun way to feature some of those neglected books sitting on your bookshelf unread.  If you are anything like me, you might be surprised by some of the unread books hiding in your stacks. This is a fun meme hosted by Carole's Random Life in Books!

HAUNTED HOUSE

On a whim, Emma Donovan bets her twin brother, Charlie, that she can spend the entire night alone at the spooky, abandoned house next door. The place is seriously creepy, but she's determined to overcome her fears and prove her brother wrong. Until she finds herself reliving a horrific night from the house's past and a passionate love with a handsome -- and strangely familiar -- young man.

When Charlie finds her, he's sure it was all just a dream. Yet Emma has persistent paranormal experiences involving the house and the young man from the past. As her "dreams" intensify, Emma becomes convinced that they are very real...and that she has a dreadful part to play in the supernatural reenactment of a tragic love.

I "re-added" The House Next Door by Richie Tankersley Cusick to my TBR pile in February of 2018. I say "re-add" because I used to have an older copy of this book ages ago that I read and enjoyed, but must have donated or sold at one of my "clean out the shelves" phases. I regretted that but then it got reprinted so I treated myself to a new copy. Sadly, it's much bigger in format than it was originally printed, but then stupidly, the pages on the inside are formatted to the old size. So I was like, what was the point of resizing it?! Especially since it was a smaller font to begin with? Makes no sense to me at all! But yes, I would love to read this one again as it was a ghost book and I feel like you don't get too many of those in paranormal books unless the ghost is an enemy/evil force to be destroyed. Memory serves and the blurb confirms that the ghost is a character here!
