This week's question is: What fantasy or Sci-fi should be part of the literary canon? (submitted by Snapdragon @ Snapdragon Alcove)
MY ANSWER: I'm not sure I understand the question, are we talking fantasy or sci-fi movie/tv adaptations being apart of the literary canon they were based off?
If that's the case, I don't think I actually have one that can fit the question.
In another roundabout way, I used to be a fan of the original TV series Roswell--not the reboot from a few years ago, but the first one from the 2000s. This TV series was based off a book series and like always, the TV show made some changes.
What I really, really liked was how there were more adaptations of books based off the TV series from different authors. Some books were like episode sequels. An episode's plot got mentioned and then the story went further, like the first book talked about Liz encountering the guy who shot her in the pilot all over again. It was fun!
Then when the show ended, the books continued the story for a few books showing what the aliens and the humans they were involved with did after they left Roswell to escape the secret government organization that wanted to study and dissect them or whatever tests they wanted to do.
So if I understood the question correctly, I just flipped it on its head in a way where the books continued the canon of the TV show that was based off the earlier books.
