Rachel Vincent Signing +CONTEST

Hey all, so I was MIA yesterday and it's because I took a day trip to Tulsa, OK. What can I say...I was bored! LOL!

But Rachel Vincent was in attendance with Jennifer Lynn Barnes and I love Rachel's books and felt like going, so I went!

Sadly the signing wasn't super full because it was apparently the same day as the State Fair! What timing! But that just meant less of a signing line! LOL!

And check out the amazing sculpture outside the library! I posted it on Instagram as well, but am doing it here again! I was just like WOW! Can I hire the guy who did this to make one for my dream house someday? *Also note I plan to have at least 2 incredibly cool gargoyle statues outside too! LOL! To protect the house of course! ;)

And now for a giveaway! I have here the ORIGINAL COVER/EDITION of My Soul to Take! Rachel's first YA book! Sadly, they only had books 1-4, as my bestie who couldn't come told me she basically needed 2-6...but don't tell her what I bought! It's for Xmas! ;)

So same story, 1 US winner (sorry! I really am going to get my act together soon and get that international contest up. Thinking next month or towards the end of this month, just because things have been and will continue to be crazy busy!) will win a SIGNED copy of My Soul to Take! Just fill out the rafflecopter!

Stacking the Shelves--2 week edition

This weekly meme is hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

Stacking The Shelves is all about the books we are adding to our shelves each week, sharing with you our excitement for our newest titles and maybe have you discover a new book in the process!

So the past two weeks have been filled with so many awesome books! And bookish goodies!! And because of that, I present a TON of pictures!

Here's what I bought bookwise the past two weeks:

 Wayfarer by Lili St. Crow*
Nameless by Lili St. Crow*
Sisters of Blood and Spirit by Kady Cross*--a keeper copy
This Monstrous Thing by Mackenzi Lee**
Ice Like Fire by Sara Raasch**
Blood and Salt by Kim Liggett**
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo**
Ungodly by Kendare Blake
Midnight Frost by Jennifer Estep--I had acquired ALL the other books while at RT the past few years and then I had a B&N coupon 2 weeks ago, so I decided to buy the middle book I was missing!
Tiger's Promise by Colleen Houck--another coupon buy, I read it already, but wanted a paper copy because SO pretty! And SMOOTH!!
A Mad Zombie Party by Gena Showalter
Demons of the Hellmouth: A Guide for Slayers by Rupert Giles (& Nancy Holder)--because awesome!
Menagerie by Rachel Vincent--keeper copy
Trickster Blood by Lucienne Diver--kindle freebie!!

*Books I bought from Jennifer of HelloKittyBookSales of Instagram! Thanks Jennifer!!
**SIGNED Copies!!

Then books I WON:

Kisses and Curses by Multiple Authors--Won from FREEBOOKFRIDAY! The first time ever that I've won from the site!
Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder--JAPANESE EDITION!! And it's SIGNED!!

THANK YOU Jessica Brody & Maria V. Snyder!!

For review I received:

THANK YOU Tarcher!

Then I shopped at Society6 at the BookwormBoutique

a "shopping" bag to warn people about me!
and this amazing framed piece that says: The World Belongs To Those Who Read...and it shows the world map behind it! I'm going to have to rearrange some current wall hangings in order to fit this one in! Might take awhile because I have to wait for some help. I'm short after all! ;)

Then SWAG:

The one on the left shows the swag I acquired at the Boston Teen Author Festival
Then I got buttons and a cool tattoo from Leigh Bardugo on Wednesday, though I probably will just hoard the tattoo!

Then I ordered some t-shirts awhile back and they finally arrived!! And of course now it's too cold for just a t-shirt. Sigh...

The one on the left says: Embrace Your Weird--I bought this one from Represent.com, which Felicia Day designed and proceeds went to antibullying programs and such. I loved Felicia's Charley character and I just loved the slogan on the shirt, as I am all about embracing my weird!

The second is one I bought from TeeSpring when I saw Kimberly Derting post a picture of it on Instagram, and I thought...that is SO ME!!! It says: If you can read this shirt I was forced to put my book down and re-enter society.

Truth.

Then lastly, I got a B&N gift card for spending too much money on my credit card again! Yay?!

And finally, out of breath...that was my amazing haul from the past two weeks! What did you all get?

Leigh Bardugo Event Recap +CONTEST

Hey all! So this past Wednesday Leigh Bardugo actually CAME to ST. LOUIS!! I was shocked and amazed and thrilled!

So naturally, I got there two and half hours early with some friends! LOL! And besides the amazing author, and actual activities and COOKIES at the event, there were also LIVE CROWS!

There were three of them, but they were also very fidgety. They wouldn't sit still for a picture! LOL. But yeah, here were two of them. And the one of the left is actually one of the big movers!

The event was awesome! And naturally, I had to buy a second copy from the bookseller there, because I have a job!! And I wanted to giveaway a SIGNED copy of Six of Crows to someone who may not be able to attend a tour stop!

Leigh was very fun to listen to! She read a poem she wrote from when she was 11, and it was quite entertaining! Heehee. I'm scared to even look at my "poetry" from when I was 11!

And if you look closely enough you can see I'm wearing my Morozova collar from Hebeldesign! Even saw another reader wearing one too!!

And now for the contest, one US reader (I plan to put together a INT giveaway soon, peeps. Just gotta get a handle on a few more financial things) will win a SIGNED copy of Six of Crows!!

This week's question is: Pick three book characters... Kiss? Marry? Kill? - Suggested by Watcha Reading?

MY ANSWER: Well...in a way all three could be answered with one character, though not so literally with the "kill" part! And that character naturally, is Daemon! ;)

But to actually answer said question, let's pick three others, 1 for each "task"!

KISS: Bones from Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress Series

chose this international cover, because Bones is on it! Being a former "playboy" Bones will be oh so very savvy in his kissing. It would be a crime not to kiss him! LOL!

MARRY: Reyes from the Charley Davidson series by Darynda Jones:

Besides being Death, Reyes is hotness personified! LOL! I love his relationship with Charley, so I guess I'd have to be Charley myself in order to feel right about marrying him! LOL!

KILL: Malone from Rachel Vincent's Shifters series (NOTE: If you haven't read this series yet, which you should have by now ;) then be aware there are HUGE spoilers coming after the picture!!!)

Yeah, after Prey...after losing Ethan, I wanted that dirty rotten bastard Malone dead!!! I never felt so vengeful and hateful before. But I wanted Malone to suffer the worst kind of death imaginable. I was just glad that all was justified by the series end! Though, still...I wish I could've pulled the theoretical trigger! ;)

Mini Review--Rowan by Josephine Angelini

What game is she playing?

Rowan hadn't seen Lillian in over a year-not since she broke his heart and killed his father in one fell swoop-so why would she pick today to just show up outside his favorite coffee shop, dressed in outlandish clothes and pretending she doesn't recognize him. Is she turning to Tristan now in some pathetic effort to drive them apart? Why insist her name is Lily? And where is her Willstone? Her wild claims of being from a parallel world are just crazy and pathetic...right?

Get a glimpse of Rowan's side of the story in this thrilling e-short edition to The Worldwalker Trilogy by internationally bestselling author Josephine Angelini.

Josephine Angelini’s Rowan is a very short little story about Rowan and his first encounter with Lily. I got to be honest, I kind of struggled with this one, mostly because I read Trial by Fire last year and have sooo many reads in between from then and now. And this is basically reading a few scenes of Trial by Fire but through Rowan’s eyes. I definitely recommend reading this directly after Trial by Fire, because events and such will be fresh on your mind.

Regardless it was still an enjoyable read, even if I couldn’t really remember what was happening and such. That’s always the trouble with reading so much! You really get to know Rowan and this one and his struggle to define his feelings for Lillian. He both loves her still, and hates her. Then when he meets Lily, her iconic double, he struggles yet again to figure out his feelings. Let alone separating the two.

Rowan was an incredibly fast read, maybe 40 pages or so. It’s a good look inside his head if you were wondering after Trial by Fire. Now onto, Firewalker!

Review--Lion's Share by Rachel Vincent

Abby Wade has a dangerous secret.

Two months ago, she disobeyed an order, but instead of kicking her out of the Pride, Jace offered her a job. Since then, she’s been battling a completely inappropriate crush on the young, hot Alpha. But when accepting his job offer seems like the only way to keep her skeletons safely in their closet, Abby doesn’t hesitate.

Jace Hammond has a big problem.

A rogue is slaughtering humans in his territory, and he must eliminate the threat before the entire shifter species is exposed. There could not be a worse time for Abby to accept a job he only offered as a boost to her confidence. Abby is smart, beautiful, and resilient—more than enough to distract any man from the mission. Unfortunately, she may just be the worst enforcer ever to hold the title.

As they hunt the killer, Abby’s secret becomes a threat to Jace’s authority and to her own life. But the real danger is the grip she has on his twice-shy heart.

It’s been too many years since I’ve been away from the Pride, but Rachel Vincent has returned to her beloved world that first gained my attention to her name with Lion’s Share and it is basically the MOST AWESOME thing ever!!

While you may be wondering about this spinoff and thinking, there’s a 6 book series ahead of it, is it necessary to read all of those first? No. But should you, just to enjoy the incredible awesomeness that is Rachel Vincent? Hell yes. There was also a short story Rachel wrote years ago, and then revised and re-published last year, Hunt, that would actually be beneficial to reading before this one. Events that happen there are sort of the prelude to what goes down in this story.

Now I believe I finished the Shifters series before my blogging days, but friends from the old Pride discussion board, know that I was totally and 100% Team Marc! Faythe and Marc belonged together. I liked Jace. I just didn’t feel like he was meant to be with Faythe. So when he went his own way at the end of Alpha, I was sad and happy for him. And then when I saw his role in Hunt, I suddenly realized how much he and Abby belonged together! That she was THE ONE for him! Though there is an age difference between them, it almost seems nonsensical in the light of day. Plus, both Abby and Jace have to get over their deliberating feelings about having a relationship with the other.

Abby is engaged to one of Jace’s enforcers, but it’s clear that there’s no love going on between them. Which is sad, because Brian is a really sweet guy. But he’s almost too sweet for Abby’s liking. Something I wasn’t sure I could totally grasp, but when Abby explains things to herself and others, it totally makes sense.

But the ever debating/growing romance is only a part of the story. The bulk of the story starts with an enforcer bring a tabby home from college unexpectedly. Sound familiar? LOL. There’s a stray on the loose who is killing humans and basically putting the existence of the Prides at risk of exposure and all sorts of bad things that come with it. Abby manages to finagle her way to be an enforcer to help solve the case. And all the while, she lets on that she knows more than she’s telling.

I haven’t really mentioned it yet, but this story is told through both Abby and Jace’s point of views and I loved that! I loved getting to know Jace on a deeper level. And I will admit to be a little weepy over his growing feelings for Abby, because Abby is after all “spoken for” and Jace has been down that road before and got hurt. But I think based on the cover alone we kind of know what direction these two are headed in! And Rachel did not disappoint!!

Lion’s Share is the first in the new Wildcats series, which is a spinoff of the original Shifters. In earlier talks, Rachel says that the books will show us more of the other characters that we hardly got to know. Though I am expecting it will be among Abby and Jace’s new circle of friends, so to speak. Needless to say, I will be breathlessly waiting over here for the next book!

Rachel reminds us old fans why we adored the Shifters series with Lion’s Share. Abby is not Faythe, yet you can see some of that same stubbornness Faythe had in Abby as well. Both were strong minded women, though it does seem clear that Abby knows exactly what she wants. No debating here! What was also a wonderful experience was seeing some of the Shifters gang again, some five years late (if I am remembering right, so five years after Alpha). Faythe and Marc, Owen and Manx, Michael and Kaci…it was great! I loved seeing everyone again. I loved seeing them in their happy endings, so to speak, as the chaos that’s about to hit their lives might interrupt that a bit!

But basically, this book was just so amazing!! And as I said before, if you’re new to the Shifters world, you don’t “have” to read the first 6 books to enjoy this new adventure. You’ll definitely receive some spoilers to endings and such, but at least you all can binge read the books! I was among the unlucky few who was waiting for every book, especially after Prey. Yeah, not even going to go there! But to all my Shifters fans, please do read this book, because it’s truly the GREATest read ever!!!

Random Thursday

So I'm not really reading this book in advance! I really am just going page by page and listing 1 or 2 facts from the pages! Next up in That's a Fact Jack: A Collection of Utterly Useless Information [Updated] by Harry Bright and Jakob Anser has some facts that not all may want to hear.

"The steam rising from a cup of coffee contains the same amount of antioxidants as three oranges."

Wow! That's surprising!

This next one, may shock you coffee lovers. So be prepared!

"Too much coffee can kill you. A lethal dose of caffeine for an adult is somewhere around 10 grams, or the equivalent of drinking between 50 and 200 cups of coffee in rapid succession."

So I guess the safe bet is to drink slowly! ;)
