ARC Review--The Goddess Inheritance by Aimee Carter

Love or life.
Henry or their child.
The end of her family or the end of the world.
Kate must choose.

During nine months of captivity, Kate Winters has survived a jealous goddess, a vengeful Titan and a pregnancy she never asked for. Now the Queen of the Gods wants her unborn child, and Kate can't stop her--until Cronus offers a deal.

In exchange for her loyalty and devotion, the King of the Titans will spare humanity and let Kate keep her child. Yet even if Kate agrees, he'll destroy Henry, her mother and the rest of the council. And if she refuses, Cronus will tear the world apart until every last god and mortal is dead.

With the fate of everyone she loves resting on her shoulders, Kate must do the impossible: find a way to defeat the most powerful being in existence, even if it costs her everything.

Even if it costs her eternity.

I received this arc from the publishers via Netgalley for an honest review. I was in no way compensated for this review.

Aimee Carter's The Goddess Inheritance concludes the Goddess Test trilogy. We pretty much pick up where we left off, except nine months have gone by, Kate is overly pregnant and ready to burst and she is still held captive by Calliope and Cronus. Ava is there too, and Kate couldn't be more angry. The first chapter though does let us see Ava and why she is doing what she is doing, one of the reasons anyway.

Kate gives birth to her and Henry's son and then that is when the chaos begins! Calliope takes Kate's son away from her and that is when she must make a deal with the devil, or Cronus in order to get him back and protect the ones she loves. But things go terribly awry!

I didn't really know what to expect from this one, besides it being the finale and all. I was hoping for the HEA ending and that everything is fine and dandy. Just like we all hope for with series finales. But Kate's journey to her HEA ending is going to be a long endeavor. There are constant battles back and forth as Cronus wants Kate for himself as his queen, but her heart belongs to Henry. And then of course Calliope still wants Henry for herself.

There were quite a few surprises in the beginning that blew me away! I was like wow! Seriously, in the beginning? And of course they get resolved fairly early as well, so that was good! But then of course there's new troubles! I am being vague in all this "trouble" talk, I just don't want to give anything away, so bare with me!

Calliope's plans have always been somewhere along the lines of destroying the council and having Henry all to herself in her deluded little world she's created. Cronus wants one of the same things as well--no hard feat guessing which!--and he wants his freedom. He's currently stuck on the island with Calliope and he wants to break free--and of course he still wants Kate. And he'll destroy the world to have her.

I really liked this one, as I have with the other books too! Although Ava did still bother me with her choices she made and even though we got to see why she did what she did, I still felt a little anger towards her. Like she should have tried harder to keep herself out of the mess she was in, or to at least do better. But again, she had reasons why she was doing what she was doing. I did come to understand that and was able to forgive her.

The ending was quite shocking. I was figuring some of it was going to happen, but just some of the little pieces that brought us to the ending were total surprises! Some were pleasant and others were devastating!

The pacing for this one was pretty good. It was a little awkward in a sense that I feel like I cannot put words to, but it was good! There wasn't a dull moment since so much was going on.

Kate was a little annoying here or there, but not overly so. I know some people found her annoying, but she does grow somewhat. With the need to save her son, she has more maturity to her. But as I said, she did have her annoying moments.

The other characters were their usual selves as well! Calliope, you just wanted to deck. Same with Walter, I know he has his reasons too, but he still annoys me! We also get to see Persephone again and it was better than last time, if I recall! She's a little more amicable this time around! And of course Henry was just freaking awesome! Gotta love that God of the Underworld!

Overall it was a very enjoyable read and one I highly recommend if you've read the first two books--and The Goddess Legacy. This is one Greek mythology series I have enjoyed a lot. There are only a handful of them out there and this was one of the first I read and it has been awesome!

There is also a sneak peek into Aimee's next book, a totally new series. I didn't quite grasp what it was about, but the chapter segment that I read was pretty interesting and I will definitely be looking into that late 2013!

The Goddess Inheritance was definitely a worthwhile read that should not be missed by any Greek mythology fan!

Overall rating 4.5/5 stars
