Random Thursday

All right! Who's ready for some totally random and obscure facts?! Moving right along the pages of That's a Fact Jack: A Collection of Utterly Useless Information [Updated] by Harry Bright and Jakob Anser, we have these lovely factoids...

"Human infants typically recognize themselves in the mirror by the time they're two years old. The only other animals that pass the "mirror test" a benchmark of self-awareness are bonobos, chimpanzees, orangutans, gorillas, bottlenose dolphins, orcas, elephants, and European magpies."

"Birds can be gay. Crows, ducks, finches, flamingos, geese, gulls, penguins, sandpipers, swans, swallows, woodpeckers, to name only a few species, often form female bird pairs, which court each other, copulate, and even raise chicks--from male sperm donors, of course!"

WOW! Didn't know that about birds!

  1. I knew that about Penguins but I didn't know it extended to other bird species.

  2. Oh remember the gay penguins? That was such a cute story, they made it into a book (my old coworker has it)!

Comments are an award all on their own! So my blog is an award free one! Thanks for any consideration though!
