Quckie Review--The Strange Case of Finley Jayne by Kady Cross

Finley Jayne knows she's not 'normal'. Normal girls don't lose time, or have something inside them that makes them capable of remarkably violent things. Her behavior has already cost her one job, so when she's offered the lofty position of companion to Phoebe, a debutante recently engaged to Lord Vincent, she accepts, despite having no experience. Lord Vincent is a man of science with his automatons and inventions, but Finley is suspicious of his motives where Phoebe is concerned. She will do anything to protect her new friend, but what she discovers is even more monstrous than anything she could have imagined…

An ebook exclusive prequel to The Steampunk Chronicles.

Kady Cross' The Strange Case of Finley Jayne was a nice quick read that tells the story of what Finley did before she met up with Griffin and his friends.

And boy did that girl get into trouble before Griffin! Of course it was for the right reasons. Finley has been the way she's been since puberty basically--isn't that when it always starts. Life already difficult bilogy-wise made even more difficult with an added burden! But Finley handles the problems well I think. Of course for the time, maybe not so well.

Needless to say Finley gets herself into constant trouble because of her darker self, but some people admire her for her strength, such as her newest employer. Phoebe's mother believes that Lord Vincent wants to marry Phoebe for all the wrong reasons. She believes he's up to something nefarious. And with a little digging, Finley discovers what's he's really up too! Total spin on the classics here!

Don't want to get to far into it, but here is Finley's backstory, before she lands where she does at the beginning of The Girl in the Steel Corset. And it was a very fun read! From the small handful of free prequels I've read so far this year, this one has to be my fave! It was very entertaining and I didn't even get around to reading the cover description and I never did feel lost!

Although I wish I would've thought to have read this beforehand, but when a certain character makes cameo appearances, and Finley constantly misses her chance at a glance, I did have myself a chuckle or two!
