Review--Dark Descendant by Jenna Black

From the acclaimed author of the Morgan Kingsley, Exorcist books comes the gripping first novel in a new series about a private eye who discovers, to her surprise, that she’s an immortal huntress.

Nikki Glass can track down any man. But when her latest client turns out to be a true descendant of Hades, Nikki now discovers she can’t die. . . . Crazy as it sounds, Nikki’s manhunting skills are literally god-given. She’s a living, breathing descendant of Artemis who has stepped right into a trap set by the children of the gods. Nikki’s new “friends” include a descendant of Eros, who uses sex as a weapon; a descendant of Loki, whose tricks are no laughing matter; and a half-mad descendant of Kali who thinks she’s a spy. But most powerful of all are the Olympians, a rival clan of immortals seeking to destroy all Descendants who refuse to bow down to them. In the eternal battle of good god/bad god, Nikki would make a divine weapon. But if they think she’ll surrender without a fight, the gods must be crazy. . .

Jenna Black's newest series kicks off with Dark Descendant and OMG I LOVED it!! Once again we have a book that's taking Greek mythology with a kick into the storyline! Although this time it's a bit different and not really of the norm, but it was still fabulous!

Nikki is a P.I. and when a case she was working on turns into a complete disaster she finds not only herself in jeopardy but the people she cares for as well. Mostly her sister. Nikki is suddenly thrust into a group of people who claim to be descendants of the Gods, mostly the Greek ones. But what gets complicated is that there are 2 groups and one really thinks they are holier-than-thou while the other isn't. So naturally the two are at war and they both want Nikki for she is the descendant of Artemis, the Huntress--and she was my fave Greek goddess too!

Things get incredibly intense for Nikki when the bad group wants her to join their team, the good group wants her on their team, but don't trust her. They think she might be working for the other side. In order to prove herself, Nikki must use her good P.I. skills to find the leader's missing wife. The bad group had kidnapped her and held her hostage for 10 years. And they are immortal beings, but not totally invincible. Only one of their own can truly kill another of their kind that will leave them dead.

There's not too much romance this time around. No hot and heavy sex scenes like we saw in the Morgan Kingsley series. There's definitely some slight romantic tension going on, but nothing definite. We can only make guesses.

The pacing was definitely good. Nikki had to constantly try to prove herself to the good guys that she wasn't a traitor or spy and keep herself from getting killed by one of them as well. There was action as well, with a handful of fight scenes that were close calls for Nikki.

Needless to say that I am definitely adding this series to my fave list! And I sooo cannot wait for the next installment!

Overall rating 4.5/5 stars
