I saw this tag the other day and thought it looked like fun! This basically lets us readers explain how we choose what books we read. I found this tag over at Emily The Book Nerd and she found it originally at @boundtowriting
The original creator is unknown unfortunately. I've also borrowed the above image from Emily's post.
FIND A BOOK ON YOUR BOOKSHELVES WITH A BLUE COVER. WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO PICK UP THIS BOOK?
I couldn't resist sharing 13 to Life since it is a blue cover! When I saw this book at RT 2010 I was held riveted! I love woodsy covers, because "the woods are lovely, dark and deep." Lol. Plus I love a good werewolf book and this one just screamed werewolves with the woods, the moon in the eye of the face overlay. It just screamed at me to read this one!
THINK OF A BOOK YOU DIDN'T EXPECT TO ENJOY, BUT DID. WHY DID YOU READ IT IN THE FIRST PLACE?
Like many a student, there were always books you HAD to read for class. In all my time at school, there was never a book I enjoyed that I was "forced" to read until I read The Count of Monte Cristo. A total literary classic blew my mind and there wasn't a vampire or speck of magic to be seen. I think it was the long game of revenge that I enjoyed most! Dantes was able to get his revenge on the people who ruined his life and it was so beautifully done and he didn't kill any of them!
STAND IN FRONT OF YOUR BOOKSHELF WITH YOUR EYES CLOSED AND PICK A BOOK AT RANDOM. HOW DID YOU DISCOVER THIS BOOK?
The book I actually chose was the sequel, Unravel Me but felt like it was better to go with Shatter Me since that was midseries on the first one. I came to read Shatter Me after I saw all the rave reviews going on for it. I was at the bookstore and strolling through the bargain books and found Shatter Me there with this very cover. So I thought, why not? It was likely $5 or less so I decided to give it a try.
PICK A BOOK THAT SOMEONE PERSONALLY RECOMMENDED TO YOU. WHAT DID YOU THINK OF IT?
The one that always comes to mind is Vampire Academy. Long ago I was a member of The Pride discussion board and I believe the friends who pushed me to read it were Cem and Ali. This essentially was the book that brought me back reading YA books too and I discovered that there was finally a YA Paranormal genre!
PICK A BOOK THAT YOU DISCOVERED THROUGH BOOKTUBE/BOOKSTAGRAM/BOOK BLOGS. DID IT LIVE UP TO THE HYPE?
One I remember seeing on a blog or two that made me immediately decide to give it a try was First Grave on the Right! And omg, did it live up to the hype! It was just as hilarious, entertaining, mysterious, and supernaturally as promised!
FIND A BOOK ON YOUR SHELVES WITH A ONE-WORD TITLE. WHAT DREW YOU TO THIS BOOK?
Well, this could fit into the last topic as well. I remember hearing a lot of buzz over Caraval so when I got the opportunity to read an ARC, I took it and oh my wow! You all know how obsessed I became with this series!
WHAT BOOK DID YOU DISCOVER THROUGH A FILM/TV ADAPTATION?
After years of watching Jaws throughout childhood, I was deemed "old enough" to read the book when I was in middle school, probably 7th or 8th grade if I recall. It was one of the few books where I found I enjoyed the movie better. But when you've seen the movie 1000x times the book just reads differently. Plus there were a few things in the book that I didn't like that I was glad the movie changed them up.
THINK OF YOUR ALL-TIME FAVORITE BOOK(S). WHEN DID YOU READ THESE AND WHY DID YOU PICK THEM UP IN THE FIRST PLACE?
While I loved Caraval, I found I enjoyed Legendary just a bit more because I found myself easily relating to Tella! Plus she was just a riot!
I found Demon in My View at a book fair, shortly after reading a teen magazine article about the author. I learned through that, that she was 13 when her first book was published. When I came across this one, I remembered the article and wanted to give it a try. Plus the heroine was named Jessica! I couldn't pass on that! Lol.
I believe I found Old Magic at Waldenbooks. I was doing my usual thing of pulling books off the shelf and reading what they were about. When I saw this one, I was mesmerized by the lightening storm and then wondering why these two people were staring at each other. When I read the description I immediately got the chills because it involved, witchcraft, magic, time travel, and curses and I was just amazed and was likely walking to the register before I finished reading the back. Lol. I did that a lot back then!
