Stacking the Shelves

This weekly meme is hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

Stacking The Shelves is all about the books we are adding to our shelves each week, sharing with you our excitement for our newest titles and maybe have you discover a new book in the process!

So it was an interesting week what with the holiday and Black Friday! Perfect for book-getting! Even made an order with the Book Outlet for the first time! Yay for coupons!!

I had a most excellent haul at Half Priced books with the $5 gift for being among the first 100, sadly not a $100 winner, but a $5 freebie all the same bought me a free book! Then there was the coupon inside to get another $5 off of $25 which I ended up spending!

Check it out:

So here's what I bought:
Earthquake by Aprilynne Pike--I haven't read the first but when I saw this, I debated on it...then I needed another couple of dollars to get my $5 off $25 so into the bag it went!
Low Red Moon by Ivy Devlin--this was the very first ARC I received from one of my blogging friends. I don't think the sequel ever made it to shelves, but I saw the beautiful red cover and decided to buy a long overdue keeper copy!
Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini--UK Copy!! I stumbled upon the UK copy and immediately added it to my bag! It was the first one to be added since I started alphabetically! Hahaha!
Abandoned by Meg Cabot--x2!! In 2 different sizes too! One was a bargain copy but yet again UK copies that I couldn't pass up! There were 3 of the bigger one and seriously moments after I put mine in my bag the other 2 were gone! Then I found the smaller one in the bargain section!
BOOKMARKS! Tinkerbell and Toy Story! At .50 it's hard to pass these up! I love bookmarks & these are good ones too! Normally like $4 at the bookstores!

I also got a calendar that gives me coupons for every two months of the year! Like Jan & Feb, March & April, etc. DEAL!

Then I also ordered two weeks ago that finally arrived:

The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen--a mixup ended with me getting 2 copies! Was kinda surprised by that! I have plans for the second copy! Muwhahaha!!

Then I also bought from the sale at B&N:

Silver Shadows by Richelle Mead--SIGNED copy!! B&N had a lot of signed books! Surprisingly I had a few of the others offered, so I decided to go with this one! So when I get to meet her again, I should have the right amount of books to be allowed signed! ;) Plus I had a 30% off coupon + my member discount and another 5% with my credit card this one was a deal!!
The Little Book of Answers by Doug Lennox--from the bargain table! Thought this would make a great aid to my Random Thursday posts
That's a Fact Jack: A Collection of Utterly Useless Information [updated] by Harry Bright & Jakob Anser--yet another bargain find to aid in the totally randomness of Random Thursday posts!
The Element Encloypedia of Fairies by Lucy Cooper--an intriguing book that I thought could make for good "research" material when I get back to writing...and incorporating fairies into the story!

So really after all those books, I only need to read 2! The Random Thursday ones will be read as I create posts and the "research" book will be searched later as needed! AND the rest were just new copies or different editions of books I've already read! Score!...I think?!

This week's question is: Book Series Crossovers I'd Love to See

*in no particular order

OTHERWORLD & HOLLOWS
by Kelley Armstrong & Kim Harrison

Of course there's still the matter of choosing which heroines from the Otherworld! Why not all of them?! Both are exciting series that I feel like run along some similar lines! I think it would be an interesting mesh to see!

CHARLEY DAVIDSON & DARKLIGHT
by Darynda Jones

True, they're both by Darynda, but I felt like Charley could so get along with teen Lorelei! They had some similar traits along the way! And naturally some similar abilities and their connection with Death!

CHARLEY DAVIDSON & CHICAGOLAND VAMPIRES
by Darynda Jones & Chloe Neill

Yes Charley again! But Charley and Merit could so be BFFs! They both have a snarky side to them that I just love! They're incredible heroines too! Both are brave in the face of danger, but still have that oh so lovable side that Reyes and Ethan adore! Sigh...!

HUSH, HUSH & PENRYN AND THE END OF DAYS
by Becca Fitzpatrick & Susan Ee

Two YA series with Fallen Angels walking among us. A lot of strife and tension, though more than that in Ee's books. But I think with the similar world settings it would be interesting to see a crossover of these series! Plus, I think Penryn could tell Nora to stick some of the times in those early days! lol!

THE WATCHERS & VAMPIRE ACADEMY
by Veronica Wolff & Richelle Mead

Another two series that have some vague similarities! Vampires and protectors training at schools that are secreted away! Although there seems to be more mysteries at the school Drew attends, but I think that Drew and her friends + Rose and hers would make an interesting and fun encounter!

This week's question is: Describe your favorite book character death scene. Why is it your favorite? Was it a villain or a hero? What made it so good? (Another prompt from book club ;) )  via Eternity Through Pages

MY ANSWER: Favorite book character death scene? Like how one of my favorite characters died or my favorite way of death? Too hard!

Well...out of all the many, many, MANY deaths in this one I think I enjoyed seeing Voldemort die! I mean come on! That guy needed to die any way possible! Didn't care about the how!

I was also glad to see Bellatrix get hers! What a b with an itch!

I think Snape and Dobby were the most heart wrenching ones for me. Like many--I assume--I was blown away by Snape's memories and all that, though I did suspect something in book 6, just nowhere near this caliber!

And Dobby...sweet little Dobby!!! I still can't get over that one! Or Hedwig's for that matter...oh hell, all the heroes! I couldn't stand seeing any of them go!

And there's another one I won't mention...though I feel like I did this question before elsewhere...there are 2 actually. One from a very popular series where many were angered at this character's death. I saw the reason to it. And while I was still soooo utterly sad, I could see why it had to happen. I think I was more sad by the characters left behind's reactions more than anything!

And then there is a trilogy that just ended this year that killed off yet another hero...oh that one cut me deep. Real deep. Did NOT see it coming and oh wow I could not stop crying!!! AT WORK!!!

If you've read these two series, you should definitely know who I am talking about in both instances, though I don't think I'm giving enough hints in the second...sorry! Although my friend Cassi at My Thoughts...Literally! will know what I'm talking about for sure! ;)

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Yes, it's Scooby again! Because really? How can I resist?!

I hope you all have a fantastic holiday should you celebrate today! And should you go out shopping since Black Friday is a thing of the past with all the stores opening on Thanksgiving evening...be safe and I hope you score all the deals you need!

Hoping to get my shopping done online so I can just go out on Friday and enjoy myself!

Have a GREAT day!!

Don't forget to check out the nifty Disney factoid in the my post below this one! ;)

Random Thursday

Here's another odd Disney factoid! In 1967 when Pirates of the Caribbean first opened Disney couldn't find enough fake skeletons...

So they used REAL ones supplied by the UCLA previously used for research! Recycling at its best, right?!

Also note, I have no idea if said skeleton above is real or not! I just used the Wiki image!

Waiting on Wednesday

I hate waiting...
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly blog post by Jill over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights releases we're eagerly awaiting.

In the latest Haunted Home Renovation mystery from New York Times bestselling author Juliet Blackwell, San Francisco contractorand reluctant ghostbusterMel Turner gets hired for a job that's to die for.

Lately, Mel has been worried about finding enough historic renovation work to pay the bills. But while Turner Construction is in need of a project, Mel’s boyfriend, Graham, has his hands full managing the reconstruction of an ancient building shipped over from Scotland.

With the job plagued by rumors that the stones are cursed, Graham brings in Mel to look for paranormal activity. And while the ghost of a charming Scottish clansman does seem to be hanging around the site, the real shock comes when they stumble upon a body.

When the original construction crew starts running scared, Mel brings in her team to finish the job. Now all she has to do is nail down the killer, and put the spirits to rest, before anyone else winds up heading for the highlands...

Looooove this series! I still need to read the latest Witchcraft Mystery so then I can go back and read the crossover Halloween novella that corresponds with this one! Can't wait to do all that!! Just need the time now!

Cover Copy Reveal--LUCKY BREAK

In this thrilling new novella from New York Times bestselling author Chloe Neill, vampire Merit bites off more than she bargained for when she takes a trip to a secluded Colorado town filled with feuding supernaturals…

Merit and Ethan are in desperate need of some alone time, far from the worries of Cadogan House, but trouble tends to follow wherever they go.  Their attempt at a romantic getaway is quickly interrupted when one of Ethan’s vampire friends shows up at their door—covered in blood and accused of killing her shifter husband.

Merit and her Master soon discover their vacation spot is far less idyllic than it appears. A centuries old quarrel between local vampires and shifters has made the town a perpetual supernatural battle zone, and this fresh blood has stirred the already volatile mix. Now, Merit and Ethan must put their passion on pause to figure out who’s really responsible for the murder before all hell break loose…

I sooooo can't wait!! Love this series and novellas are always appreciated between books!!
