Follow Friday

This is a weekly blog meme hosted by Parajunkee's View and Alison Can Read

The Rules:

  • The goal is to increase blog followers, make friends and have something to post.
  • You create your own post using the post prompt.
  • You leave your link and thumbnail in the linky list that links back to your post prompt.
  • Once you have your post up and linked, visit other posts and tell them hi. The point is to FOLLOW them not just comment.
  • If you see a post that just hit it to the moon, or just want to show appreciation to a fellow blogger friend, like their name on the linky list to show some appreciation.
  • The person with the most likes gets chosen as the next Feature (you can be chosen every 90 days unless we are in need of features)
  • It is required that if you participate that you have to follow the FEATURE. It is a big no-no to participate and ignore the feature. They are the special snowflake in this little blizzard.
  • As a participant it is up to your discretion on how you want people to follow. Please post RSS, GFC etc if you have a follow of choice.

Specific RULES:

  • Put your Blog name & URL in the Linky thing. You can also grab the code if you would like to insert it into your posts.
  • Grab the button up there and place it in a post, this post is for people to find a place to say “hi” in your comments and that they are now following you.
  • If you are using WordPress or another CMS that doesn’t have GFC (Google Friends Connect) state in your posts how you would like to be followed FOLLOW as many as you can, as many as you want, or just follow a few. The whole point is to make new friends and find new blogs. Also, don’t just follow, comment and say hi. Another blogger might not know you are a new follower if you don’t say “HI”
  • Follow as many as you can, as many as you want, or just follow a few. The whole point is to make new friends and find new blogs. Also, don’t just follow, comment and say hi. Another blogger might not know you are a new follower if you don’t say “HI”
  • If someone comments and says they are following you, be a dear and follow back. Spread the Love…and the followers

This week's prompt is: What is your take on DNF books? Do you review them? Choose not to review them?

MY ANSWER: It depends on how far I've made it into the book. There were times when I really didn't last all that long before I just decided to quit it. Pacing issues or character issues...but if I've made it a decent length I will write a DNF review and explain why I DNF halfway or nearly halfway through. I think it's important to write the DNF reviews no matter how much it might hurt, because sometimes I am that reader who is so conflicted over a book and really want more input and opinions on it so I can make an informed decision! LOL! So yeah, DNF reviews are hard to write, but are necessary sometimes and I write them as long as I've read around half the book, sometimes its less but still a significant amount. It's an insignificant amount then I don't bother with a review.

  1. That is a good point, though I usually don't review books I've DNF(ed). I wish you a great weekend!

  2. We have similar answers. I’ll only write a DNF review if I’ve read more than 50% of the book. If I read less than that, I just put it on my Goodreads DNF shelf.

  4. That's one of the reasons I post my DNF reviews! When I'm on the fence about a book those reviews are sometimes the deciding factors for me.

Have a good weekend and happy reading!

  5. I operate the same way with DNFs. Typically I won't quit a book before the 40-50% mark.

  7. I hear you! As a writer, I'm of two minds about DNF's. On one hand, they're upsetting to an author. I try not to be too snide or sarcastic, I try to stay objective, but I don't know if I always succeed. I made a concerted attempt, because I've gotten reviews that were just heinous, and read more like personal attacks than actual opinions of the work.

On the other hand, negative reviews that are constructive are extremely important to my writing process, and I feel obligated to give feedback both as a writer and a reviewer. The people who request or read my reviews deserve the truth.

Reviews are a double-edged sword when you're a writer. I have one in particular that haunts me years later because it was so WRONG factually, but you just shouldn't ever respond to a negative review. Problem is, I don't think I ever sold another copy of the book where that review was posted! Argh! LOL

  8. I hate to do DFN reviews because sometimes I put it down just because I am not in the mood for it.. has nothing to do with the book. If I put it down two different times of tring to read then I might should do a review. I probably just didn't like the book. For the most part I try to finish most books I read. I just have a need to finish anything started issue.

  9. I usually don't review books I've DNF since I've always felt that it wouldn't be fair to review a book that you haven't finished.

  10. I have written one DNF review that I publicized. I felt so bad but the book deserved it. It had NO CONFLICT! It was unbelievable. I've DNF'd a couple others but I've let that author know because they had contacted me about doing a review. Ultimately I want people to make their own choices. I don't want to discourage writers... but you are right, maybe we have more of a responsibility to our audiences.

  11. still posting review because it affected me in some ways. I want people to know how I felt reading the book because it might help them justify their take on the book (if there were similar to what i felt). Happy Friday!
