In My Mailbox is a weekly blog post hosted by Kirsti over at The Story Siren and inspired by Alea at Pop Culture Junkie.
This was a fabulous week for me! My TBR pile is growing, growing, growing!!
I got myself a nice little sampler of upcoming UF books from Devon Monk:
There's samples of:
Dead Iron by Devon Monk
A Soldier's Duty by Jean Johnson
Working Stiff by Rachel Caine
Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawerence
Bloodlands by Christine Cody
Shadow Kin by M.J. Scott
Sins of the Angels by Linda Poitevin
Dead Mann Walking by Stefan Petrucha
Then books I bought and or preordered that came in the mail were:
Grave Dance by Kalayna Price
Viper Moon by Lee Roland
Heartless by Gail Carriger
And although I already have this on my Kindle, I decided to buy a hard copy because I saw it at BAM--a discount version of Books-A-Million--for only $6! And it was the hardcover! Thought it was a good deal and couldn't pass it up! Hoping that maybe Becca might make it to St. Louis for Silence this year, or at least close enough!
For Review via NetGalley I got:
Beyond the Grave by Mara Purnhagen
Then I got this via the publisher that I won in a contest awhile back:
Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier
Also I had myself quite the adventure on Thursday! I went downtown--which downtown St. Louis is pretty crazy--to see Kasey MacKenzie! She's a local author for me. I was all set with my mapquest directions and all, get towards my exit--it was freaking CLOSED!!! Sooo not good. So I get off at the next one and got freaking lost for a good 35-40 minutes! Seriously seriously LOST! I went in circles around blocks, likely passed the library 2-3 times not knowing it was the building I wanted. Started to go down a one way street which I didn't know, thankfully the pedestrians let me know before I got too far! Made several U-turns and turn arounds...
But FINALLY I got to the library and managed a C- version of a parallel park! Of course I still had to ask for some foot directions because the building I walked into the first time was a post office, but then I learned that the same building--that was huge--also housed the library. And then I was in!! It was a huge relief because I was so freaked out! I was literally lost for a good 30-40 minutes top!
There wasn't a major crowd since Kasey is still a pretty new author, but I had a good time! I hung out for awhile with her in the library, got my books signed and asked her a few questions about the series and then we talked a little about writing in general and I mentioned how I want to be a writer and was working on my querying. She offered me some advice and mentioned a few websites, some I knew of and visit occasionally.
It was a nerve wracking experience to say the least! But I made it! And getting myself back on the right highway was easier than it was getting to the place! Luckily I made the correct turn the first time!
And that was my mailbox this week! What did you get?
