Waiting on Wednesday

I hate waiting...
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly blog post by Jill over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights releases we're eagerly awaiting.

A Southern girl. A wounded soldier. A chilling force deep in the forest.

All collide at night’s darkest hour.

Seventeen-year-old Violet Dancey has been left at home in Mississippi with a laudanum-addicted stepmother and love-crazed stepsister while her father fights in the war—a war that has already claimed her twin brother.

When she comes across a severely injured Union soldier lying in an abandoned lodge deep in the woods, things begin to change. Thomas is the enemy—one of the men who might have killed her own brother—and yet she's drawn to him. But Violet isn't Thomas's only visitor; someone has been tending to his wounds—keeping him alive—and it becomes chillingly clear that this care hasn't been out of compassion.

Against the dangers of war and ominous powers of voodoo, Violet must fight to protect her home and the people she loves.

From the author of Strands of Bronze and Gold comes a haunting love story and suspenseful thriller based on the ancient fairy tale of “Tam Lin.”

I really enjoyed Strands of Bronze and Gold, so I can't wait to read what other tales Jane creates or retells!

TITLE: The Mirk and Midnight Hour
AUTHOR: Jane Nickerson

PUBLISHER: Knopf Books for Young Readers
GENRE: Fantasy/Paranormal YA
RELEASE DATE: March 11, 2014

Resistance is the second installment in acclaimed author Jenna Black’s YA SF romance series.

Nate Hayes is a Replica.

The real Nate was viciously murdered, but thanks to Paxco’s groundbreaking human replication technology, a duplicate was created that holds all of the personality and the memories of the original. Or...almost all. Nate’s backup didn't extend to the days preceding his murder, leaving him searching for answers about who would kill him, and why. Now, after weeks spent attempting to solve his own murder with the help of his best friend and betrothed, Nadia Lake, Nate has found the answers he was seeking...and he doesn’t like what he’s discovered.

The original Nate was killed because he knew a secret that could change everything. Thanks to Nadia’s quick thinking, the two of them hold the cards now—or think they do.

Unfortunately, neither of them fully understands just how deep the conspiracy runs.

After the jaw-dropping ending of Replica I am DYING to read this one! Even more so since I read Replica as an ARC!

  12. All of these books are really new to me, Jessica. However, I am really creeped out with The Mirk and The Midnight Hour. For some reason, it reminded me of Anne Rice's The Witching Hour novel. And that series was really dark and disturbing.

I might check the said book because I haven't read voodoo book yet. :D

Thanks for sharing these lovelies, Jessica!

  22. "The Mirk and the Midnight Hour" sounds really cool, Tam Lin is one of my favorite stories and it's widely unappreciated, I'm glad somebody chose to write a retelling of it.
