I hate waiting...
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly blog post by Jill over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights releases we're eagerly awaiting.Welcome to a new YA series that reimagines classic Disney stories in surprising new ways. Each book asks the question: What if one key moment from a familiar Disney film was changed? This dark and daring version of Aladdin twists the original story with the question: What if Jafar was the first one to summon the Genie?
When Jafar steals the Genie’s lamp, he uses his first two wishes to become sultan and the most powerful sorcerer in the world. Agrabah lives in fear, waiting for his third and final wish.To stop the power-mad ruler, Aladdin and the deposed Princess Jasmine must unite the people of Agrabah in rebellion. But soon their fight for freedom threatens to tear the kingdom apart in a costly civil war.
What happens next? A Street Rat becomes a leader. A princess becomes a revolutionary. And readers will never look at the story of Aladdin in the same way again.
This new series...this was made for ME!! LOL! I looooove Disney movies, so having a series where the story is told in a new and different way has me all sorts of excited!! I can't wait to see what happens in this one and the books to come! Come on Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid!! :D And after putting together the info for this one, I learned that she is the author of my most fave fairy tale retelling ever under a pseudonym!!
TITLE: A Whole New World
AUTHOR: Liz Braswell
PUBLISHER: Disney Press
GENRE: Fantasy YA
RELEASE DATE: September 1, 2015
Set in medieval Venice, this captivating fairy tale retelling by award-winning author Donna Jo Napoli explores belonging, beauty, and the transformative power of love through the eyes of a teenage girl. Dolce has grown up hidden away on an island in a lagoon. She is a giant, a freak, tormented by everyone but her loving mother. She spends her time learning the valuable secret of making mirrors. Following a tragedy, Dolce swims away and lands on an island where people see her as normal, even beautiful. Marin, a kind widower, and his little daughter bring Dolce to live with them in their grand palazzo. Eventually, Dolce and Marin marry. She secretly continues to make mirrors, not realizing that quicksilver endangers her . . . and so evil begins in innocence.
So here we have another fairy tale retelling! Totally not planned either as I had to revise my other pick today because it apparently is now coming out in May 2016 instead of October of this year! SOB!! :( But this one sounds awesome! I have no idea what fairy tale it's supposed to be retelling because none are ringing any bells. But still, I must reads it! (And yes using improper English was intended there! I may have my degree in English, but when it comes to my preciouses I can not remember to use proper English in all the glory of the books! And yeah, this rambling has gotten away with me too! LOL!)

I am excited to read A Whole New World too. I have a thing for Aladdin. :) When my son was a baby (he's 20 now) this is the only movie he would allow to be played in his presence. Allow isn't correct, he would DEMAND this movie at all times. And yes, he has ADD and is on the Autism spectrum, go figure. So I know this movie inside and out. However, I see the star ratings this book is getting, and they have me worried. Hopefully it will be an enjoyable book! Dark Shimmer is new to me, and I have no idea what fairytale it is. I hope you enjoy reading it. Thanks for stopping by My WoW.
ReplyDeleteOh Dark Shimmer looks really good! I wish I could be excited about A Whole New World. It just doesn't appeal to me for some reason. Great picks!

I don't think either of these will keep my interest, but only because I wasn't a fan of Aladdin and the other, I don't like anything set in history. Just a thing for me. I am glad you are soo excited for these!
ReplyDeleteBefore looking at the blurb for a Whole New World I just knew it was disney because of that Aladdin song :) Both books look interesting. Hope you read them soon.
