Review--Every Last Breath by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Some loves will last ’til your dying breath

Every choice has consequences—but seventeen-year-old Layla faces tougher choices than most. Light or darkness. Wickedly sexy demon prince Roth, or Zayne, the gorgeous, protective Warden she never thought could be hers. Hardest of all, Layla has to decide which side of herself to trust.

Layla has a new problem, too. A Lilin—the deadliest of demons—has been unleashed, wreaking havoc on those around her…including her best friend. To keep Sam from a fate much, much worse than death, Layla must strike a deal with the enemy while saving her city—and her race—from destruction.

Torn between two worlds and two different boys, Layla has no certainties, least of all survival, especially when an old bargain comes back to haunt them all. But sometimes, when secrets are everywhere and the truth seems unknowable, you have to listen to your heart, pick a side—and then fight like hell…

The hardest thing I've learned as a blogger is writing a review for one of Jennifer L. Armentrout's books! Every single one I've read has been incredible! And to write one for a series ender is probably even harder! But let's give this a go! I will keep it completely SPOILER FREE! I won't drop any hints as to who Layla ended up with! I'll barely even touch on romance for that reason! Capiche?

Every Last Breath definitely had me holding my breath throughout the novel! Especially for those first couple of pages. As it's within the first 100 pages when Layla makes her choice! And despite what I wanted to happen, I really had no clue who Layla would choose! And when Jennifer confirmed that the votes were close, I was on pins and needles with worry and anxiety! I knew who I wanted to be the victor, and I made my vote clear! LOL!

I think that it was good to get that choice over with in the beginning as it were. It gives us all the chance to either bask in the glory or weep in tears and be done with it all! But while Layla does make her decision and does her own basking in her newly established romance, her biggest concern is getting rid of the Liln and rescuing Sam's soul! That is key and I seriously felt so weepy over the loss of Sam! I wondered, like Layla if there was a chance he could be rescued, but where's the realism in that? And yes, I know we're talking about a fictional book with demons and gargoyles and what not, but there still has to be a thread of reality in fiction. At least that's my opinion! (And I did have a rather nice sentence after that, but I deleted it, because I felt like it could direct you to a spoiler. See what I did there for you guys? Welcome! ;) )

It was interesting to see in the beginning Layla, Zayne, and Roth all working together. This is pretty much where things start, which is where we left off in Stone Cold Touch. Learning that the Liln has been masquerading as Sam for a long while now was earth shattering and then the chaos that ensued afterwards was just that! Chaotic! It was the perfect way to start the story!

As I said, after Layla made her choice, we pretty much move on to the next task of figuring out how to destroy the Liln and rescue Sam's soul in the progress. Though both are definitely the most challenging tasks that Layla will have to overcome in order to reach anything close to a happy ending!

Every Last Breath was filled with many surprises! We learn so much in this one, I almost wish this wasn't the last book! I would love to see more of this world! We get to see answers behind a lot of origin stories. I won't get into all that, because I truly want to leave the experiencing of this novel for all you readers to enjoy!

Needless to say, this was yet another amazing book from Jennifer L. Armentrout! I adore her books! She writes paranormal books so incredibly spectacular! I've never been much of a contemp reader, so her other books, sadly don't fit my reading palette, but I enjoyed pretty much every she's written in this realm of things! Her characters, all around, have always been remarkably real! I love their attitudes, humor, and even some of the stupid choices they make. They're real! Both characters and stupid decisions, because who among us haven't made stupid decisions?! Jennifer if just an awesome writer! She has something for everyone and I highly recommend all her books! Even the ones I haven't read! It's just that simple and why she's an autobuy author for me!

Every Last Breath was incredible from beginning to an end! I loved every moment! Even the ones where I was terrified and heartsick and elated and delightful and all the moments after Layla made her choice! LOL! Jennifer writes emotional reads where you basically go through every single emotion possible from happy to sad to laughing and crying and everywhere in between! If you haven't read any of her books, what are you waiting for?

  1. I understand the struggle of writing a review for Jennifer. How do you write a review for all of her books and try not to show favoritism because her books are just too good? That's the question I ask myself every time I review one of her books! Awesome review but I didn't read it all bec I'm reading this one for the BooktubeAThon later in the week. So sad to be ending this series. I know u kind of felt the same way because hellloooooo #TeamRoth!

  3. I love that she made her choice so early on because I loved focusing on the other aspects of the story and getting to see the couple have some real page time together. This was an awesome conclusion. Great review!
