Random Thursday

Recently when I was bored and surfing the web for the randomness of things, I stumbled upon some factoids that I will likely be sharing in the next week or two just to spice things up here! But for now, let's get back to Weird But True by Leslie Gilbert Elman and learn some odd new facts!

In Senegal, chimpanzees have an unusual reaction to fire. Instead of fleeing in fear, they dance! They observe the fire and dance around it. They remain alert enough to avoid getting burned as well.

That's bizarre!

Chimpanzees use their hands when they talk to one another. They will even reach out their right hand as if to shake hands with one another.

I mean, I guess I kind of knew this. If we can sometimes communicate with them with hand gestures why not with each other?

In 2009, Samoa changed their laws to have cars drive on the left side of the road. At this time there were fewer than 20,000 cars registered in Samoa.

FUN FACT: Prior to Samoa, the last nation to switch driving sides was Ghana in 1974.

I would be soooo lost trying to drive in another country!

1/3 of the world lives in a country where they drive on the left side. Countries such as Australia, Botswana, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, New Zealand, South Africa, Thailand, and the United Kingdom.

FUN FACT: The U.S. Virgin Islands is the only US territory to drive on the left side of the road.

In February 2009 the American satellite Iridium 33 collided with the Russian satellite Kosmos 2251 over Siberia, roughly 491 miles above Earth. This was the first time a collision ever happened, but it's suspected to not be the last as there are still many defunct satellites up there among the 900 working ones!

For some reason I so can't remember this happening. What was I doing in 2009...not blogging yet of course! Lol!
