This week's topic is: FAVORITE SPIN-OFF BOOK SERIES

* in no particular order

GHOST HUNTER MYSTERY SERIES
by Victoria Laurie

OOoh I love this series! Victoria started with the Psychic Eye Mystery series, and I can't remember which book it was at the moment, but M.J. made an appearance and then she got her own series!! And I soooo love it! They are awesome and just a little bit creepy with the bad ghosts!

DARK ANGELS SERIES
by Keri Arthur

OMG! I don't know any Keri Arthur fan who doesn't really like this series either! It is so awesome! The Riley Jenson series was incredible and then little Risa popped up, then grew up and got her own series! I looove it! Can't wait til June for the next one! Been too long already!

BLOODLINES SERIES
by Richelle Mead

While we're only 1 book in, I am enjoying this series! I like seeing some of the gang from Vampire Academy! The next one is gonna be soooo good, especially after the cliffhanger ending we got in this one!

THE GLASS TRILOGY
by Maria V. Snyder

This was an awesome spinoff trilogy from the Study one! We got nearly all the main characters from the first set and a cast of new characters! It was incredible! Opal was a helluva heroine and I loved seeing her character growth!

OUTCAST SEASON SERIES
by Rachel Caine

This was a series I really enjoyed. Sad that it's over already, but I looooved being in the Weather Warden world again! Jo and David were popping up every now and then and it was just awesome! It was one of my most fave spinoff series ever!

Cover Copy Reveal--Keri Arthur

OMG!! Saw the cover for Keri Arthur's NEXT book in the Dark Angels series! I do kinda miss the close ups of Risa compared to these newer ones with seeing her more full and at a distance. But I must say I like this one far better than the one that comes out in June.

Risa Jones, half-Aedh/half-werewolf, can enter the realm between life and death. She can speak to the dying and the dead, and she can see the Reapers, collectors of souls. What she can not yet see is the identity of a stranger murdering women and draining their blood. Now Risa must summon her gifts to find him, even if it means putting her own life in danger. But Risa needn’t look far. The killer knows who she is.

He tells her his victims are infected by darkness and he’s fated to destroy them. Fascinated by Risa, he engages her in a sinister game: the chance to save the life of his next victim by deciphering his series of clues. In a race against time, she enlists the help of the Reaper Azriel.

But as an attraction between them grows, so does the fear that the stranger’s motives are only part of a larger, more dangerous scheme—one that has lured Risa and Azriel into the dark.

Iron Fey News!!

OMG! Just saw that on Julie Kagwa's blog that there is news in the Iron Fey world!! And it's goooooood!

You ready?

Okay, since the ever popular novellas Julie wrote, Winter's Passage and Summer's Crossing did so well, they are going to be put into an anthology later this year! Yes, the anthology will be called The Iron Legends! But that's not all! There will be a NEW short story in the book, Iron's Prophecy! No idea what that one will be about yet, but I will definitely be buying this!

But don't leave yet, there's MORE! More, you say! What else could there be? How about in The Iron Legends there will be a sneak peek at the NEXT Iron Fey book?!!

Yes, Julie says there will be another book in the Iron Fey series!! And she says it's coming out THIS fall!!

How freaking-incredible is that?! This about made my day!

I will be sure to post more details as I learn them and Julie shares as well!

Cover Art--Black Lament

I must say that I kind of like this one! I won't get into details, but OMG Black Howl had a doozie of an ending! So I cannot wait to read this one! And I think the cover really fits with the title!

This week's question is: What is the best book you’ve read in the last month? What is the worst book you’ve read in the last month?

MY ANSWER: Really, I can only pick 1?! Okay, I suppose one of the most recent books I read and totally LOVED was Darynda Jones's First Grave on the Right! Totally loved it from cover to cover!

This second bit is hard, because I haven't read a book that I would deem "the worst". More so that it just wasn't a total fave from cover to cover. Still a fave and a good one, I bought it after reading the ARC after all. That book was A Sliver of Shadow. I guess it was hard to get back into the zone of things since it's been a year since I read the first one. At times there were a few slow moments as well. But still it's a good read! Gave it 4/5 stars! So again, I haven't really read a book that cane be called "the worst".

TGIF is a weekly feature created and hosted by GReads! that re-caps the week’s posts and has different question each week.

This week's question is: Social Networking: Do you use Twitter or Facebook to promote your blog?  How has it benefited your book blogging experience? If not, how do you promote your blog? Share your twitter handle and/or Facebook link!

MY ANSWER: I am actually probably one of the very few who doesn't do social networking. Facebook/My Space has never been my thing. My friends don't get why...everyone does it! Me, I just don't care for it. Nothing ultimately personal. I'd rather just run my blog. As for Twitter, I haven't joined that band wagon, because I really don't know what I would tweet.

What does a book blogger tweet? That's what I would use it for anyway. (Seriously, if someone could give me some idea, I might actually sign up for one!)

As to how do I promote my blog? Well, I just visit lots of other blogs! When visiting I leave my URL link in my signature and hope that people find me that way. Or another great way is to join in on the Giveaway hops that many other blogs host! Joining in on those do gain some visits! I've gained a lot of new followers that way and have followed new blogs that way myself.

Random Thursday

Saturday is St. Patrick's Day! Yay for wearing green! Being part Irish and all, I wear green. But what else goes on this day? Besides parades and excuses to get drunk--really, why do people need an excuse? They do it anyway!

We know that it's the day to celebrate St. Patrick, when he led the snakes out of Ireland. Good for him, I hate snakes! And apparently when celebrating this holiday during Lent, the rule about not eating meat is waived! So people can eat, drink and be merry!

So I looked up a few facts about St. Patty's Day on History.com and came up with a few that were pretty interesting! Like did you know that 34.7 million people in the US have Irish ancestry? That's more than 7 times the population in Ireland!

Corned beef is one of the most popular foods to eat on this day. As is Irish Soda Bread--I remember we always had a lot of that when I worked in the bakery department at the grocery store. And people bought a ton of it! Do you know how it got its name? Well according to the website, it's became when baking, they used baking soda as a leavening agent instead of yeast!

There are 7 cities in the US with the name Shamrock and sixteen places in the US also have the name Dublin!

And those are just some of the fun facts that the website has! Since it is History.com I feel pretty confident in its accuracy!

Waiting on Wednesday

I hate waiting...
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly blog post by Jill over at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights releases we're eagerly awaiting.

That is until forensic psychologist Sara Priest discovered Violet's talent and invited her to use her gift to track down murderers. Now, as she works with an eclectic group of individuals—including mysterious and dangerously attractive Rafe—it's Violet's job to help those who have been murdered by bringing their killers to justice. When Violet discovers the body of a college girl killed by "the girlfriend collector" she is determined to solve the case. But now the serial killer is on the lookout for a new "relationship" and Violet may have caught his eye....

Can't wait for this one!! It's been too long since I've been in Derting's world--in this series. Read the last one as an ARC, so yeah, I've been waiting wayyyyyy too long!

ARC Review--Goddess Interrupted by Aimee Carter

Kate Winters has won immortality.

But if she wants a life in the Underworld with Henry, she’ll have to fight for it.

Becoming immortal wasn’t supposed to be the easy part. Though Kate is about to be crowned Queen of the Underworld, she’s as isolated as ever. And despite her growing love for Henry, ruler of the Underworld, he’s becoming ever more distant and secretive. Then, in the midst of Kate’s coronation, Henry is abducted by the only being powerful enough to kill him: the King of the Titans.

As the other gods prepare for a war that could end them all, it is up to Kate to save Henry from the depths of Tartarus. But in order to navigate the endless caverns of the Underworld, Kate must enlist the help of the one person who is the greatest threat to her future.

Henry’s first wife, Persephone.

I received this e-ARC from the publisher via Netgalley

WOW. Just freaking WOW! Goddess Interrupted was freaking awesome! Aimee Carter is incredible! She wrote her amazing debut The Goddess Test, and I was so wondering how she was going to be able to compete with that, but she freaking did it!

So Kate's had an awesome summer in Greece with James and come fall Kate's looking forward to seeing Henry again. Only she doesn't receive the warm welcome she was hoping for. In fact, she comes back in the thick of things. Calliope is still raving mad and is concocting her evil plan to get revenge, yet again. But there are still plans for Kate's induction ceremony to actually being a goddess. Naturally those plans are interrupted. Hence the title!

What it boils down to is that Kate, James and Ava must find the one person who will be able to save Henry and the others for Calliope has them in her trap, wanting to set free to Cronus, the Titan who is imprisoned by the Gods and Goddesses. And naturally we know who that one person is...Persephone. Henry's first wife and technically Kate's sister.

Traveling through the Underworld, encountering many versions of the dead's afterlives, it takes awhile to get to Persephone. The book is sort of a "journey" book, in that that's what takes place, but it's around half way that they get to Persephone and then must convince her to come help.

The pacing when you step back and look at it, might seem a little slow. Yet I enjoyed it. It was true storytelling. It's an art, to take a modern semi-paranormal like novel and make it feel like a story. Regardless, I found this to be a very enjoyable story. There's plenty of action and danger! There's intense friction between Kate and Henry. They love each other, yet they can't seem to communicate at all. Henry is cold and distant and when he sees Persephone again, Kate feels even more alone.

There are monumental changes and progress happening with them. It was hard for me to pick a side, I could see both of their points even though it was Kate's p.o.v. And the ending! OMG, I thought the ending last time was tough since things were getting to the HEA, then Kate leaves for the summer. This ending, puts that one to shame, to SHAME! Yes, it's a cliffhanger. An EVIL EVIL cliffhanger!!

I don't want that to sound negative, but this cliffhanger is the definition of cliffhangers. It totally leaves you hanging in the worst way! And it's going to be an uber long time to wait for the next one.

I don't want to give anything away, and even talking about character developments might lead to a spoiler. But the characters do grow. We see more of them and their Godly alter egos. Ava and James in particular. And of course Henry.

The book had everything one could expect from one that speaks of characters on a mission. And Kate is on a mission. And more importantly she will have to make the decision as to whether she truly belongs with Henry or not.

Overall rating 5/5 stars
