Let's Discuss: Book Slumps

Today I feel like talking about something that effects most readers. I can't recall if I talked about this before. A quick search through my posts didn't result in anything, so let's discuss:

Reading Slumps

Time and time again, I see some bloggers talking about being in a reading slump. I know we're all different when it comes to our reading passions but I for one have never really understood book slumps. I know sometimes we just might not be "feeling" the book, I've had plenty of those where I had to put it down and move onto the next. But I've never hit the point where I just can't get into a reading groove.

I guess one could call it lucky. And perhaps it is. I'm usually pretty careful in choosing what books I want in my Neverending TBR pile. A good chunk are from favorite authors/series, some are ones that had rave reviews and are ones I feel like I'd love too, and a random few are ones I decided to take a chance with...but you know, haven't read yet! Lol.

So in some way, shape or form, every TBR book I've selected are ones I realllllly want to read. I just need to somehow read faster and lose the need for sleep to actually get to them all.

Here's my question for you guys, how do you get out of a reading slump? What are some of your cure alls?

  1. I have never been a reading slump. I don't know, if it's because I am so quick to switch books or I just get really lucky, but I have not been there.

  2. I've had a couple of major slumps, but they were more mental health related than just not being interested in reading. The first one happened at the beginning of 2018 when I was so miserable at my job {once I left it my reading exploded}, and the other was last March when my dad passed and I didn't read for at all for a month, and then was slow getting back into things until I moved home to be with my mom in July {when my reading exploded again}.
Because I am usually reading multiple books at a time, I just switch between them if something isn't clicking. If I'm really not feeling a book, I'll put it away for a little while and go back.

  3. I'm not sure I've been in a reading slump either. Sometimes I'll want to read a certain kind of book, but I don't know if I don't want to read at all.

  4. I'm the same as you. Never been not able to read something. It may not be what I start out with but I have no problem finding something to read.

  5. For me, reading slumps tend to be not quite as much that I don't want to read, it's just that I've become really focused on something ELSE for a long period of time. I'm into several different types of crafting and audiobooks aren't really workable for me at home (with a 3 and a 5 year old being LOUD!) so I just don't read when I go on marathon crafting sessions. Also, I will get sucked into a show (looking at you, Pose... also, every K-drama ever...) and will just marathon whatever TV show every evening for a month and get no reading done. USUALLY I don't watch many shows because I'm busy reading, so it's like when I watch shows the books go out the window for a bit, haha. Reading is a hobby and supposed to be fun, so I'm trying to learn to just be fine with it when I hit a reading "slump."

  6. I have VERY occasionally hit a reading slump, but it's never impacted my overall reading by much.
