Okay, so I might have mentioned my mix feelings over the new Disney princesses look, but have you seen what they've done to Merida from Brave? I do not like it at all.
The new look is on the left and the original is on the right. I remember reading an article or two about how unnecessary the change was and I agree. Sure, there may have been a "need" to take the CGI look and make it animated like they did with Rapunzel. No problem, but did they have to change her so dramatically?
I recall parent's commenting on her and how she basically looks like a trollop. Okay, I used that word just now, because it seems to fit. Her waistline has shrunk a good size or two. Her hair is slightly more tamed. Her face isn't as rounded as it was before. She's decked out with makeup. And her neckline has been lowered. What's up with that?!
Parents commented that they took the princess who looked normal and basically Barbie'd her up. Making her look overly beautiful--not that she wasn't before--and just being unnecessary. They question what this image will tell young girls about their own appearance and other body image related things. And yeah I can agree, but also I just don't care for it.
I can understand the tweaking of the Disney princesses and spicing up their looks for a new generation. The little details like adding detail to Cinderella's do' was fine, adding more sparkles everywhere, sure! But things like this and my most aggravated assault growing Belle's hair far longer than it was in the movie are changes that are just not needed.
End of rant! :)
