Like I said, I mostly read UF rather than PNR and I had to take a guess at these. If they appear to be all UF, then it is likely that they are since I consider myself a UF reader and can't really tell when I'm reading PNR.

Movie Review--Red Riding Hood

The only reason why I became interested in this movie was because I read a similar storyline in Debbie Viguie's Scarlet Moon, years ago and loved it. So I did read the book version of this, which left out the last chapter which was extremely annoying. But I still gave the movie a try.

Right away I felt like it was another Twilight movie, and I even expected that in some ways, but wow. It was really that bad in similarities. Catherine must have an obsession with shots of the woods, because the beginning felt exactly like Twilight. I was wondering if she took that footage and used it anyway!

Billy Burke back as the dad was another surprise, but nothing horrid. He's not a bad actor, I have nothing against him, it just marks this as a Twilight feature.

Another thing was Shiloh Fernandez's hair. Don't get me wrong, he's very handsome, much better than Edward...er Robert. But his hairstyle soooooo made me think of Edward. And I know it's not that big a deal, but it was just a lot of little things about the movie that screamed Twilight that annoyed me.

Otherwise the movie was still rather good. It was like the book a lot, except it starts at the point where Valerie's sister is found dead, so it made things move rather quickly. The actual ending was pretty surprising too! Totally threw out my theories I developed from the books! I mean it almost seemed like it came out of left field, but still surprises like that can be nice. It was explained in a believable way, there just wasn't any hints. (okay, there was one, but it wasn't done exceptionally well IMO) You know? Sometimes you except to see clues after the big reveal that makes you say, "oh yeah!". But that wasn't there.

Basically the movie left me feeling blah. Eh. Nothing overtly special. Glad I paid the early admission $5 to see it. It's definitely not one I will have to own or wait agonizingly for the DVD. So to me it did reek a little too much of Twilight to be fully enjoyable, but the non Twilight parts were entertaining. There was a little bit here and there that came from the original fairytale that made it enjoyable for me at those parts. Although, just as I was thinking it wasn't that bad of a movie, the final scene was just way too cheesy for my liking that I was rolling my eyes.

Pretty much everyone walked out of the theater agreeing that it was Twilight but focusing on werewolves.

This week's question is: Just like Ashley said (love it) "Ashley the girl..." who are You the Boy/Girl, instead of You the Blogger?

MY ANSWER: I am an inspiring writer who's going through the awful query process, of waiting and getting rejected. I graduated back in May 10 with my BA in English and a minor in Writing and trying to find a job and getting rejected after interviews. Going through a lot of rejections right now! And of course I love reading! I've also always loved the supernatural since I was 13 and now it's so popular, and it sometimes makes me feel like I just follow the trends, which I so don't. But whatever.

I live at home still, no job remember? ;) I love my family even if they drive me crazy. It's just me, my mom, my older sister and her 2-year old daughter who was born on my birthday and she loooves books and Scooby Doo!!

Review--Demon Song by Cat Adams

Cat Adams' Demon Song was just a thrill ride! Right away we're thrust into action and Celia is trying to deal with a lot of the aftermath of Siren Song but all is not well for her. The rift to keep the human world separated (and protected) from the demon realm is opening. Demons are escaping hell.

If that wasn't enough Celia still has other problems on her hands. She's fighting hunger cravings more often, and men seem to be noticing her more now and she can't help but wonder if their intentions are true or if it is because of her siren heritage.

There was a lot of romantic tension in the book for Celia from her many pursuers and they were all verrry fun! The pacing was excellent for as Celia is handed one problem another pops up in the way. By the end I was left somewhat satisfied and yet still craving for more. Mortem Song is next in the series and releases later this year.

Overall my rating is 4/5 stars

Melissa Marr's conclusion to the Wicked Lovey series, Darkest Mercy was quite a fast paced read. Had I started it earlier in the day yesterday, it would've been a one day read. As it was I finished early this morning.

I will admit to some confusion in the beginning. This series has just gone in so many directions with all the different characters, I'm always discombobulated at the beginning of each book. I have to get into the flow with the main characters of this book. But it was still a fascinating conclusion. A lot of the characters we've seen in the past books are there, for the most part, maybe not the Radiant Shadows characters, but everyone else is there.

The war is on and with any way there are casualties and sacrifices. The ending was truly epic in some ways...as any ending to a series is really. There were surprises almost at every turn from each character.

Overall I give this one 3.5/5 stars. A slightly lower score just because I was confused for a good part of the beginning trying to get caught back up with the right characters. But still a great ending to a great series!

Waiting on Wednesday

"Who's your all-time favorite book villain?"

MY ANSWER: This is kind of hard. I guess my fave (sort of) villain is Al from Kim Harrison's The Hallows series. He was villain-like in the beginning and he still isn't a good guy, but he's a complicated villain. He's hard to make out whose side he's on. But for the most part, I don't think he could be considered a good guy, so I'll say he's villain-like and therefore is one of my fave villains.

This week's question is: What embarrassing thing have you done on cold medicine? 

MY ANSWER: Uh...I don't think I've ever done anything really embarrassing. Nothing that I can remember anyway. Although, not embarrassing, I do remember having the flu on my 16th birthday which was on the 16th of the month, so what should have been a double special day in some respect was not a fun day at all. But no, I can't think of anything embarrassing that I did while under the influence of cold medicine.

Kim Harrison Signing

Last night I went to see Kim Harrison since St. Louis made her tour list this year which was super exciting! And St. Louis made an appearance in her latest book, Pale Demon! I had later found out that our local news channel interviewed her in the morning but I had missed it. Rachel and her friends created a bit of mischief near our famous Arch. ;)

 It was a fun typical signing with a reading and Q&A followed by the signing. This picture here is our roadies from St. Louis! I was also wearing my other fan gear which included jewelry from her website.

Kim had also mentioned that she sees the end to the series around 13-14 books, but leaning on 13. She was saying that she sees bits and pieces of the last chapter or so. She also mentioned her new graphic novel that will release this summer, I believe it's called Blood Work. She also said she has one more graphic novel contracted as well.

Then here is me and Kim when I finally got up to see her. I had to be at the end of the line with the other groupies because we were doing the group shots just as the librarians had everyone lined up so we all had to be at then end. And now I have all my books from Kim signed! So it was worth the wait!

Review--Iron Crowned by Richelle Mead

The wait has been too long for Richelle Mead's Iron Crowned! But returning back to Eugenie's world was rather easier than expected. I was back into the flow of things with relative ease. Events were summed up nicely and then we were moving along.

I was warned ahead of time about the cliffhanger ending which I suppose was a good thing for I was ready for it. And it was a doozie. Shocking and unsuspecting, but not leaving me totally agonizing over the wait til the next book which is sort of good in a way. Eugenie is sent to find the Iron Crown rather early on and for reasons to be learned when reading, Kiyo goes with her.

There is romance in the book but I won't get into it. It was sporadic at times, but seemed to fit into the story and not just be there for sex scene purposes which was nice. The pacing to the story was good, a little slow at times, but it was always building to something more, it just took awhile o get there.

I can't get into a lot of details because then I would end up getting close to spoilers. But Eugenie definitely goes through a lot of emotional turmoil in this book. It was really kind of heart wrenching with everything she had to deal with, and there was quite a bit she had to deal with. 

So I will have to cut this short because when I start talking on and on about GREAT books, I sometimes get too close to spoilers and that is something I tend to avoid. Overall this was a fabulous read and I so cannot wait to see what Eugenie will do next time around! The wait is going to be too long I'm sure.

Overall rating is 4.5/5 stars.

Waiting on Wednesday

Decided to give my WoW post a new look! I added Inigo Montoya to the usual picture, many people remember Inigo from The Princess Bride and his famous speech; "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father, prepare to die." I choose to remember that as well as his other one-liner, "I hate waiting," that he says when he must wait to fight the Man-In-Black (Wesley) on top of The Cliffs of Insanity! Love that movie! So from now on, on Wednesdays we shall see Inigo next to the usual WoW image!

Review--This Side of the Grave by Jeaniene Frost

DANGER WAITS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE GRAVE.

Jeaniene Frost's This Side of the Grave was worth the wait! I was immediately drawn back into Cat and Bones' world where they can never seem to get a moment's peace! The action picks up right from the beginning and the chaos and adventures start.

Cat is still getting used to being a "unique" vampire and has yet another new problem on her hands. But the more pressing matter is Apollyon--the ghoul who is set on gathering the other ghouls and going to war with the vampires. That would not be good. So Cat and Bones will have to use their resources to try to put a stop to it. But even that will be hard for their resources are somewhat detained.

Not wanting to get into the details other than that her family and friends are "detained" in their own ways and cannot all be readily available to assist Cat. Yet there is still help to be had. Spade and Denise along with Mencheres and Kira rejoin the group--which was fun to see them again but through Cat's eyes and seeing them be couple like and knowing the story behind it! And of course Vlad was back as well.

There was a bit of humor in the story as well which lighten the mood when needed. And of course there was some steamy romance, but nothing like the epic Chapter 32! Overall it was a fantastic read! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love seeing Cat and Bones relationship to develop further and further despite their being married. It never ceases to amaze me and I love that. I love how there is still always more room to grow.

So naturally my rating is 5/5 stars! And that the wait to One Grave at a Time is only 6 months rather than a year makes me very happy!
