This week's question is: BeefcakeandBabes Asks: I like unique names for characters and am looking forward to coming up with some when I start writing. What’s the most unique character name you’ve come across?
MY ANSWER: Hmmm...I think some of the most unique names came from one of my all time fave authors Maria Snyder! Her series is mostly fantasy rather than Urban Fantasy, but it is still fantastic!! Highly recommend her Study Trilogy AND her Glass Trilogy!
I'd try to think of more, but I came down with a cold and have a bit of headache right now and thinking hurts! Couldn't even read yesterday! :(
The names there were pretty unique; Yelena, Valek, Janco, Ari, Opal...
Even her YA series had a character with a unique name, Trella.
Sometimes the name can be not as unique but the spelling is. What I mean is like the name Faith--Buffy's rival but then friend, I think--you know in the last season--and then in Rachel Vincent's Shifter series it's Faythe. That was the first time I seen the name spelled like that.
TGIF is a weekly feature created and hosted by GReads! that re-caps the week’s posts and has different question each week.
This week's question is: Book Blogger Pride: What do you take pride in when it comes to blogging?
MY ANSWER: OOoh nice one! I guess what I like about blogging is being able to spread the word about books I totally love! There are times I get comments commenting on my review of a book, and people love it! And yet, they haven't heard of the series I was reading or weren't familiar with the author, or something like that. And it blows me away, because these are my fave authors I'm reading! Or new to me authors that have some appeal to my interests. So I love being able to introduce people to new books or authors! I feel like--in a small way since some of you already read the same genre--that I am converting people over to my kind of reads!**
**A long running joke with a few of my besties. One decides to call me "Vampire Girl" because I read "vampire" books. Which gets me into a heated debate that not all my books are vampire ones, and I think it was 3 or maybe 4 years ago now, I brought one of my friends to the "dark side"! Not the friend who teased me obviously! But still I get a kick out of it after all this time!
Trella and Faythe, forgot about them. I really didn't like Faythe's name, though... it just looks like it's been written the wrong way, I guess. LOL
ReplyDeleteI love introducing books to people too! There is nothing like having someone tell you that they loved a book you suggested!

Thanks for stopping by! I had to laugh at your pronunciation of Hermione. Mine was just as bad. Until that first movie came out, I said it like "Her-Moyne".
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading Poison Study, and those names were all pretty unique. I really liked the book, so I'm looking forward to reading more from Maria Snyder.
Have a great weekend and I hope you feel better!

I finally have that series by Rachel Vincent on my K-Fire that you're talking about, I really need to hurry up and get around to reading it. I've been so curious about it and have heard really great things. Plus, I love the different spelling of Faythe, that's so interesting. :)
