Review--Goddess by Josephine Angelini

The gods' thirst for war already has a body count--and Helen is plagued with visions of destruction. She must find a way to imprison them once again, or risk unleashing immeasurable chaos.

Her powers are increasing--and so is the distance between Helen and her mortal friends. Uncertain whether to fear or revere her, the once-solid group divides.

To make matters worse, the Oracle reveals that a dangerous Tyrant is lurking among them...and all fingers point to Orion. Still unsure, whether she loves him or Lucas, Helen is forced to make a terrifying decision, for an all-out war is coming to her shores.

STARCROSSED and DREAMLESS are international bestsellers. Now Josephine Angelini’s delivers a thrilling conclusion to this epic trilogy of love, hate, revenge, and fate. With worlds built just as fast as they crumble, a goddess must rise above it all in a final battle to change a destiny written in the stars.

Josephine Angelini's conclusion to the Starcrossed Trilogy, Goddess, was pretty freaking awesome!! It's been super long since I last read Dreamless as an ARC, so my memory of all that's come to pass was really shaky! Like scary bad! But I just basically tried to roll with it! Anything important was brought up, although there were still things that bugged me, but it was mostly due to my not remembering!

As with the previous books, it's told in third person point of view and changes points of view quite a bit. But there's never any confusion as to who's speaking, but it just makes for a lot going on. But not in a chaotic way! Basically, in this book, it's the final showdown and not everyone will survive.

It was amazing seeing how much these characters have grown and fit into their roles. The gods, free now to reign chaos on Earth, seem fit to have the Trojan War continuously play itself out in different ways. All our characters have a role to play and they play it. It's not necessarily the exact same Trojan War playing out time and time again, but the characters are playing their roles as their ancestors before them have.

It's hard to describe all that happens in a short easy paragraph and avoiding the necessary spoilers. Basically, it's a preparation for all the bad things to come. I wouldn't at all say that it was a slow pacing for being 421 pages long, it read quite fast in my opinion. There's quite a few mini challenges the characters all must overcome. A good portion of that is trying to figure out who the Tyrant is, which was a shock in of itself to me. I guess I wasn't really putting much effort into solving that one, because I was totally taken by surprise!

Helen has been getting dreams or memories of her ancestors and the roles they have previously played, Helen of Troy and even Guenevere from the King Arthur mythology/tales--what to call that exactly?? Sometimes I was confused with the meaning behind these dreams and trying to see the point in Helen having them. Helen of Troy I could understand, but King Arthur's Guenevere was a little dicey for me. I guess it was more just a love story kind of thing.

Which brings me to the romance behind this one. I was all for Orion to be honest, mostly because Lucas is Helen's cousin and that was just weirding me out that there was sparks of romance between them. But all in all, I was happy with how things turned out for our starcrossed lovers! Of course, not everyone got a happy ending, and despite a few close calls and tears, I was quite happy with how Josephine ended this trilogy.

The ending itself was good as well. It's one that pretty much wraps up all the loose-ends, but still leaves a few threads to dangle, letting you know that the characters' lives will still go on without us. Those little unanswered questions aren't really much, so don't think that the trilogy is left unfinished, because it's not. They are just tiny things, that like I said, let's you know that the characters are still living on! It was quite the entertaining and intriguing trilogy and a good mesh of Greek mythology! Definitely a read to look into if you like Greek mythology or spins on the Trojan War!
