The Bookshelf Tag

So I was checking out this month's 2020 Discussion Challenge spotlight and saw this ever so fun tag post at Lili Lost in a Book! It looked like soooo much fun so I decided to join in! I borrowed this image above from Lili's blog too because it was just so cute!

HOW MANY BOOKSHELVES DO YOU HAVE?

Okay that's actually a bit more difficult to figure out since I'm "borrowing" some from my mom. I have 9 full bookcases that are all of my own! Plus a two shelf system on my night stand, so we'll say 9.5. Then I'm borrowing 3, but I was told I could have one, so make that 10.5 and borrowing 2...then I have one shelf on our living room bookcase that's mostly for pictures. I talked her into donating our outdated encyclopedia collection a few years ago and put my Southern Vampire Mystery Series & Hollow Series out there! Lol.

So we're up to 12.5 shelves, but a definite 10.5...probably going to be 11.5 by the end of September. I am totally eyeing a customized bookcase website for a Labor Day sale! They had one for Independence Day so I'm hoping for a Labor Day sale! Lol.

That was a tough one! Lol.

HOW MANY BOOKS ON YOUR BOOKSHELVES? OR HOW MANY BOOKS DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE?

The first part is much too difficult to determine. My bookcases are of various sizes, this narrow one would have less than a wider one. So those numbers are all over the place.

But I can tell you how many books I have in general and as of today I have 1,974 books. This does not include ebooks, as they don't count as they're on an ereader and whatnot.

HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE YOUR BOOKS?

I'm old school, I go by author's last name in alphabetical order. If there's multiple series we go in the order that I have read them in, so you can see I read Victoria Laurie's Psychic Eye before Ghost Hunter, as that one started shortly after Psychic Eye. Usually it's publication order, but every now and then there might be a slight difference.

WHAT IS THE OLDEST BOOK ON YOUR BOOKSHELF?

I decided not to count ones that are stacked in my closet somewhere or in another "not on a shelf" place. Basically, I went old school and chose one of my first adult Urban Fantasies (again, I decided to not count any of the classics or fairy tales either). Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris published May 1, 2001. And if you zoom in, you can see I was right all along in referring to the series as the Southern Vampire Mysteries! ;)

WHAT IS THE NEWEST BOOK ON YOUR BOOKSHELF?

Since I literally just finished reading this one and physically added it to my bookshelves that would be The Queen by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I'm not counting any of my StS books which are in the TBR pile and thus NOT the bookshelves. Yes, I'm being quite literal with this tag! LOL!

WHAT IS THE LONGEST BOOK ON YOUR SHELVES?

Well, again, not counting Harry Potter, because obviously that one is till one of the longer books I read...outside of The Count of Monte Cristo, Tiger's Dream is the longest book on my shelves. It comes in at a whopping 814 pages! Sarah's House of Earth and Blood was a close second at 800ish.

WHAT IS THE SHORTEST BOOK ON YOUR SHELVES?

Definitely the random graphic novels! Here are Marie Lu's Legend graphic novel series! I think my Vampire Academy set is in a random cabinet with the series.

WHAT IS THE PREDOMINANT GENRE ON YOUR BOOKSHELF?

Well, it's a near tie with Fantasy and Urban Fantasy/Paranormal. I'm not counting the age part of the genre. I mean, I guess if you want to lump Urban Fantasy/Paranormal under the Fantasy genre as subgenres, we can just say the ever basic FANTASY in all its forms!

HAVE YOU EVER DONE A BOOKSHELF TOUR?

Uh...apparently, it's been a loooong time since I've done a newer one...for my blog! I think I did an updated on on my Instagram account awhile back.

GO ON A RANDOM NUMBER GENERATOR AND TALK ABOUT THE BOOK THAT CORRESPONDS WITH THAT NUMBER...

Okay, since I said my bookcases are of all different sizes and hold different numbers of books per case, I decided to go on my Caraval case! Big surprise right? Out of the 67 editions I own, I drew number 59 on the generator and that happened to be my Goldsboro copy of Finale! This one was sooo nerve wracking to buy! Thankfully, I did have the day's head-start in purchasing since I bought the Legendary Goldsboro! As you all know, I'm a big Caraval fan and I needed this Goldsboro to go with the rest of my Goldsboro copies! Lol!

DO YOU HAVE MERCH OR ANY OTHER DECORATIONS ON YOUR BOOKSHELF?

Yes, yes I do! It's funny, in the early days, I didn't want anything on my bookshelves decor wise, but then I kept finding all the glorious bookish decor pieces so I HAD to have them all! Lol! Here there's a bookish print with a quote, a Hedwig snowglobe with a book base, and of course, my favorite, a skeleton reading a book while sitting on a stack of books...aka how I will be found when I die. Lol.

And then of course, there's my multiple Caraval pieces too! Those are all over my Caraval shelves! I've got a few personalized Funkos, a Caraval invitation and down in the corner you'll see a bookish sign!

SHOW US YOUR BOOKSHELF!

Here's an updated look at my Caraval case! My pride and joy! Lol! The bottom messy stack is what I plan to use for the covers that have gone missing in the mail. Sigh...hopefully some day :(
