This week's prompt is: Give a funny blurb to a book that will "tickle" those who haven't read the book yet.

MY ANSWER: Going to get "blurb" right this time! LOL! Funny? Oh man!

This whole grim reaper thing should have come with a manual.
Or a diagram of some kind.

Those first few lines were enough to have me laughing and picking the book up!! If you haven't read this series yet, you should! It's paranormal, mystery and seriously funny!

Kelley has been a long time favorite author of mine and when she decided to take on a Fantasy YA series, I was more than game! It turned out to be this incredibly amazing story that not only had action, magic, romance, fantasy, and friendships, but an incredible bond between Ashyn and her sister, Moria. I loved seeing these sisters together and their fierce devotion to one another that went beyond the bonds of Seeker and Keeper. 

Things are pretty chaotic when we start off, picking up where we left off, which naturally had me scrambling to remember specific details. Gavril had betrayed Moria in the worst way possible. He continually lied to her about everything and she can no longer trust him, but yet she will have to on some level for the two of them are headed to his father, Alvar Kitsune, and the emperor has asked that Moria stop him once and for all, and yes, he means for her to kill him. But naturally, things don't work out as planned as Moria and Gavril are kidnapped by enemies.

In the meantime, Ashyn has found family she never knew existed. Her grandfather is happy to have found her. Especially in this hectic time. But he needs Ashyn's help in awakening a set of dragons. Yes, real life dragons who are frozen in sleep. He believes with Ashyn's powers she will be the one to awaken them and they can thus put an end to Alvar's tyranny. But again, more chaos ensues so that nothing goes as planned!

I quite enjoyed this one despite not being able to recall all the previous details, which can sometimes hinder my enjoyment of a read. But thankfully, Kelley gives a decent enough recap that you're able to follow along with the story at large fairly well. Not all characters were familiar to me, but as they popped up I found myself liking them! My heart lied with our main characters though, Moria, Ashyn, Ronan, Gavril, and Tyrus. I loved seeing the bond between the sisters. I guess because I have my own older sister and while we are nothing like these two, I guess because we have a few years of age between us. I would do whatever I could to protect my sister as well, but I am the younger sister here, so it might be harder! LOL! Moria and Ashyn are continually trying to find the other and help them out with their problem. They are very protective of one another!

And then there's the guys! I remember always feeling uneasy about Gavril. He's told one too many lies over the course of the series and I felt Moria was right to be mistrusting him. But as the story moves along, it's like we finally get to see the real Gavril and I quite enjoyed this new leaf he turned over. Or perhaps it was who he always was, but kept hidden! Then there's Tyrus. I couldn't quite remember my feelings over him from the last go around, but I loved how devoted he was to Moria as well. Naturally, it's more of a romantic sense, but it gave me all the feels to read it. Then there's Ronan; he continued to aggravate me with his back and forth feelings over Ashyn, but we finally get reasons as to his behavior. And I will admit, I get it. Though I do find I like the Ronan who likes Ashyn as well! He's had his own dark past that's affected him and he does the best he can to overcome it.

The pacing to this one was a touch on the slow side, but only in the moving forward sense! SO much was happening throughout. Everyone had their goals and missions but they were constantly waylaid by other disasters or occurrences beyond their control. So while it was hard to see what the end goal would be, besides the overpowering of Alvar, it was still an incredible journey to read about!

While I won't divulge in spoilers, I will say that that ending was prettying freaking epic! I was soooo not expecting that and I must say I loved it! It was so incredibly perfect, that to have ended it any other way wouldn't have done the story justice. And if you've read it already, I'm not just talking about that ONE thing! I felt like where all our beloved characters were at by the story's end was absolute perfection! It's not one you would expect, and I think that's why I loved it so much!

Kelley Armstrong has been on my auto buy list for several years now, and she will continue to be on that list! If you haven't read any of her books yet, I highly recommend them all! But if you're a fan of the Fantasy reads more than the Urban Fantasy, then definitely start with the Age of Legends trilogy! It's a series rich with characters and mythos and all the elements a reader could want! And the best part is that it's complete! Bring on the binge reading!

This week's topic is: Ten 8 Books I Feel Differently About After Time Has Passed

**Kinda turned this into about books that I just fell out of over time. And all of these I fell out of so long ago it seems. I explain how after a few books I began to feel differently about them and how I lost the spark that I thought we had.

1. PERSEPHONE ALCMEDI SERIES--this is one that I fell out of a few years ago. Sadly it seemed the series was canceled and that in part played into how I fell out of it. I have since donated the books as well. It was a fun series, but I couldn't really remembered what I liked about it at one point, so I decided to gift the books elsewhere.

2. MERCY THOMPSON SERIES--this one will likely cause woe, but yeah, I fell out of this one too. I lost enjoyment in it. I think it was when Mercy and Adam finally got together and it was THEIR first book and a lot of people had said they didn't enjoy it, so I skipped it and never really came back to the series.

3. DOWNSIDE GHOSTS SERIES--another series I fell out of. I enjoyed Stacia's first series. It was cute, quirky, snarky and paranormal-y! This one had the paranormal and edge and grit, but yet even when I read them I found myself disconnecting as the books went on, so I finally just gave up on it.

4. BLACK LONDON SERIES--I wanted to like this one and I did stick with it for most of the series. But I think I finally gave up on it just before it ended. It was one that I found myself reading because I felt like I "had" to since I started the series (before the TBR mountain really came about). Sadly I just lost that feel good feeling I had gotten from the first book.

5. SHADES OF FURY SERIES--another one that I just fell out of. I'm not sure if it was ever canceled. There's still a fourth book to come apparently. But I think when I read the last one and another didn't come, I just gave up waiting.

6. EARTH WITCHES SERIES--I think this is one that can be chalked up to being canceled or it just ended with three books. Since they involved different characters, it's hard to say. I enjoyed them, but I know I also gifted these elsewhere after awhile of not seeing anything new.

7. ABBY SINCLAIR SERIES--one that I fell out of I think after two books. Another case of just not being able to get into the series like I had hoped.

8. MORTAL PATH SERIES--this one was by a semi local author and at that time I wanted to read local authors. Still do, just never found one in the right genre. I can't remember what didn't click with me and this series. I think I read two books and then just stopped. It lacked something, but I can't recall what that is now after so much time.

Let's Watch it AGAIN!!!

Okay, it was all over Twitter after debuting on TV this morning, but seriously, I can't get enough of this teaser trailer! I ADORE Beauty and the Beast and Emma is going to make a great Belle!!

I think to add to the stellar news of this one releasing next year on March 17th is that the animated version, the original version might be coming out of the vault as well! Not only just after its 25th anniversary, but just in time for it coincide with its live action theatrical release! Not that I know what date it's coming out or if it is for sure. I read an article somewhere that it's possibly coming out of that stupid vault next year! Apparently the classics--the ones we all adore and love--only come out of the vault every 7 years. So I guess that tells us to time our having kids right so we can have them watching these beloved classics! If and hopefully when, I find more definitive data I will be sure to post for sure and let you know!

Stacking The Shelves is all about the books we are adding to our shelves each week, sharing with you our excitement for our newest titles and maybe have you discover a new book in the process!

So BEA...WOW! That was a totally awesome time and experience and yeah, lots of great reads to be picked up if I'm so lucky enough to snag them! Luckily, I got all that I was planning for, so I wasn't left upset about any books! I tried to be selective in my picking things up because I knew I had about 200 unread books at home. I've even weeded a few ARCs out that I might read later on or might just giveaway in a giveaway sometime soon! We shall wait and see I guess!

So for the past two weeks, I've acquired a lot of new reads! Ironically, I think I only really got 1 book last week while I was away, so yay?!

Color Me to Sleep--a coloring book that was out somewhere, so I thought, why not?!

So I really only bought the first three out of these, and felt rather good about that! That tiny blue book was just one that I got for free when I bought Last Call at the Nightshade Lounge. A little book of Everything a Woman Should Know...found some of the info a tad offensive though. Like how to throw a football, change a tire, parallel park, give a mind blowing, knock his socks off kiss...so yeah...not sure how I feel about that one! There wasn't a whole lot of interesting books to choose from when it came to getting my "free book". But it's no biggie!

Then I also got one of my preorder incentives, this one for A Court of Mist and Fury!! The tote is so cool! I think the last one I am waiting on is my The Rose and the Dagger print! Can't wait for that one to arrive either!

Sides 1 & 2! Now to read the book and find that quote!! :D

Yes, I'm terrible! I still need to read it! Though based on the cliffhanger I am hearing about, I feel wise in waiting...not sure how long I will be able to wait though. We shall see! Maybe I'll save it for when we drive, yes DRIVE to Florida! I think it's like 16 hours...so yeah...I'll want a long one! :D

ARC Review--Awakened by Fire by Erin Kellison

Awakened by Fire is Erin Kellison’s second book in the Dragons of Bloodfire series and I was ecstatic to read yet another book after the awesomeness of the first one. Though it has been a long while since I read that one, I think I might have forgotten some details. What made it even harder to get into this one at first was that we are brought a new cast of characters. I can’t remember if they were mentioned in the first one, so it felt like a whole new start and that was a little disorienting for awhile, but it didn’t last that long because I was soon absorbed into the new story!

Samantha returns to her home to visit her grandfather who just so happens to be a steward to a very powerful dragon family. His “master” is Warrick Voclain, the dragon that Samantha crushed on during her early years. Her grandfather raised her after her mother died. There’s some more backstory to that, but because it leads to spoiler territory, I’m avoiding going into details. Samantha has worked hard in life and she now has her own budding company that she runs with two friends designing apps. Their photo app is really starting to take off too. But when family obligation beckons, Samantha returns home to be in her cousin’s wedding, a dragon wedding on top of it all. Her cousin is human but is marrying a dragon and is a part of a dragon family. Just a few details to give you an idea of the chaos about to ensue!

Soon enough Samantha finds herself staying longer than necessary when someone is clearly gunning for the people she cares about. She will have to use her special gift in order to figure out who’s the bad guy. Samantha’s talents lie in Time. She’s able to go back in time, but she’s not able to really interact or interfere, she’s more so just there and able to witness things; which becomes incredibly helpful on the road ahead.

Then there’s Warrick, the dragon whose life just might in danger. And Samantha is obligated to help, since her grandfather could be effected too by being his steward.

There was plenty of action in this one, what with all the multiple threats against Warrick, her grandfather, and ever herself since she’s with them most of the time. It made for a thrilling read! There’s also a good deal of dragon politics to get into, which for the most part were pretty easy to get through. Politics has never been something I could understand, still don’t really! LOL! But at least in fiction, it makes sense!

All the while of chasing down leads and possible threats, Samantha and Warrick start to grow closer to one another. I’m really digging these “adult” dragon books I’ve been reading! The YA ones are still awesome too, but with the adult ones, you get the sense of who the dragons really are and most of them are very protective of their hoards. Then comes the heroine and soon enough we start to see the dragon falling for her and needing her in his life. It might seem a little possessive in some ways, but the way Erin executes it, it seems rather romantic in a way. For one, it’s not a one-sided attraction, and secondly, the heroine is usually pretty independent and strong on her own and the dragon dude (since they’ve all been dudes so far) has to really work at winning her heart! And I always enjoy that!

There’s an ever present of danger in this book, which really antes up the momentum of pacing. People are always in danger it seems and then soon the danger is directed at Samantha. So there’s hardly ever a dull moment. I really liked this one, but then at the same time, I was struggling to see how it was supposed to connect to the first book, other than dragons still being among us and having their own set of politics. And then finally…in the last chapter, epilogue really, we get that connection! And I loved it! I finally felt like we had some solid ground beneath us. There might have been earlier name drops, but again, poor memory from reading too much (ha!) makes it hard to remember all the little details like names and such. So maybe name drops happened and I was left unaware. But no matter. We have that connection in this last little piece of the book and it definitely made up for my missing Thane and Emerson.

And I did something I never do before, I read the sampler of what’s to come next time, just to see what direction we’re headed in for I got the feeling it would be with yet another new cast of characters. And it is! But isn’t! Yes, we haven’t formally met them but we have gotten a name drop of sorts from this book regarding them. It does make it a little hard to dive back in, I totally enjoyed Erin’s Reveler series where we kind of focused on the same group of people. There would always be connections, like  book one had couple A and introduced you to the who would turn into couple B, then in book two you see couple B and foundation is laid for couple C. See where I’m going with this? We don’t really have that clear-cut introduction thing going down just yet here. We do in a small sense, but not as well as Erin’s last series. But hopefully things will pick up and with my meticulous notes I’ve taken, I will remember things better. We shall see.

If you’re a dragon loving reader and have been itching for an “adult” dragon read, then I highly recommend checking out this new series by Erin Kellison! Best yet, we’re just getting started, as this is book 2, so it’s the perfect time to dive into a new series!

Overall Rating 3.75/5 stars—just nearly a 4 but a little off the top since my memory struggled to grasp onto these new characters. I was legit trying to remember if Warrick or Samantha made an appearance in the first book and couldn’t get myself focused on the story in the now as much as I tried. Since I now have an idea of how this series will roll, hopefully my transition to the next book will be a bit more smooth!

This week's prompt is: Ten Reasons You Love Your Fave Genre

MY ANSWER: And just the FYI, when talking about my favorite genre here, it's Urban Fantasy! ;)

1. Paranormal--i.e.: someone inhuman is involved; vampires, werewolves, witches, demons, shapeshifters, sorcerers, djinn, etc.

2. Snark--so many of my Urban Fantasies have snarky characters! Sometimes it's the heroine, sometimes a friend or hero. But needless to say there are lots of laughs!

3. Exciting Plots--there's usually something intense or disastrous happening and it's up to the heroine to save the day!

4. Swoony Romance--oh yeah, the romance is definitely hot and swoony! Usually falling in between those lines! LOL! Some is sweeps you off your feet with swoons and others are just plain HOT!

5. Characters--the characters are always delightful! There's a mix of supernatural types and sometimes some who are just plain human. I generally like a mix. One that involves a human interacting with the supernaturals!

6. Magic--there's usually some magic involved in some ways. Not all the time, but I love having magic involved! It's not always the clear-cut kind that's easy to grasp, but it's enjoyable all the same!

7. Fast Paced Plots--the pacing usually tends to be rather intense! Moving from one point to the next and it's all danger and high speeds...so to speak!

8. Twists--sometimes one of the reads will come with a surprising twist that I didn't see coming and I always love being taken by surprise!

9. Variety--there are sooo many paranormal reads to choose from! It's a reader's delight to be overwhelmed with TOO much to read! Speaking as someone who once never had anything new to read, this is a wonderful, if overwhelming, feeling!

10. No Two Are the Same--I love reading so many books that even involve the same paranormal type, like vampires and werewolves. There are sooo many different stories and types of them all! So many authors make them their own, that I love how really, no two are ever really the same.
