Review--Forever Doon by Carey Corp & Lorie Langdon

With the witch of Doon on the throne, Jamie believed dead, and Duncan and Mackenna trapped in Alloway, Veronica has no choice but to put her grief aside and prepare her remaining followers for the impending battle against the false queen and her forces. But while on a covert mission to steal a powerful elixir from the castle, Veronica discovers her true love may actually be alive, and fighting a battle of his own.

With the Brig o’ Doon destroyed and the portal fragmented, Doon’s forces are not only divided, but also isolated in different dimensions. With the help of a storyteller as ancient as the witch herself, Kenna and Duncan learn they must rebuild the bridge to have any chance of crossing back into Doon with their ragtag army. But when Mackenna insists on fighting as well, Duncan soon realizes the only way he can ensure her safety is to turn her into a cold-hearted killer.

For Vee, Jamie, Kenna, and Duncan, saving their kingdom while keeping their lives intact will take a miracle.

Forever Doon is the final installment in the Doon series by authors Carey Corp and Lorie Langdon! A series that totally blew me away with its magic and of course the endearing friendship between Veronica and MacKenna! When we last left our heroes they were separated, with MacKenna, Duncan and fellow Doonians back in Scotland leaving Veronica back in Doon to rule on her own since Jamie had been kidnapped by the witch, who plans to take over Doon and causing all sorts of evil, chaos, and destruction!

So yeah, a LOT was going on! And our friends are all separated, Jamie worries about Veronica, despite being held prisoner by the witch and being constantly tortured, Veronica believes that Jamie is dead and poor Duncan and MacKenna have no idea what to think since they're trapped in Scotland with no bridge to take them back to Doon. Hope is lost, until it's not!

Duncan and Kenna and the Doonians work to build the bridge so that they may get back into Doon. And soon, other Destineds are arriving in Scotland. They've had their Calling and they've come to help fight a battle that has yet to start. The heroes have their army, and now it's time to get to the battlefield.

In the meantime, Veronica and her citizens are just trying to stay alive. The witch is a deadly foe indeed. It's soon rumored that Jamie might be alive and it's then that Veronica plans the rescue mission. And soon enough the friends are reunited but there still a battle that must be fought and won or else all of Doon will suffer.

And it's at this point where we start to see problems developing between the couples. Jamie having been tortured is distance, and Duncan who fears for Kenna's safety distances himself from her as well. It's convoluted in some sense, but what can you do? Drama just finds its way into these stories!

But I have to admit, all drama aside this story definitely got exciting! The witch is a dangerous and scary foe. She has no compunctions about fighting dirty and being deceitful. There will be many deaths in this one! It was quite the emotional gut punch! Carey and Lorie pull no punches in this one! It's the final book! The epic showdown will be had before the story is over and there can be only one winner! Will good prevail over evil (as it is always meant to) or will evil finally reign supreme?

Forever Doon was just as magical as all the other books in this series! I've always enjoyed the friendship between Kenna and Veronica! The brotherly bonds between Duncan and Jamie were also enjoyable to read! I think my favorite couple though is Kenna and Duncan! Kenna is a fierce dreamer who's not afraid of fighting for what she believes in, and Duncan is kind of the same. Maybe he's more subdue and trust me, when it was their turn for relationship issues I was both heartbroken and yet trying to tell Kenna to have a little more bite to her. She seemed to have lost her edge when it was her own heart that was hurting, which I guess is understandable.

The ending was beautiful! It could've gone a lot of different ways, but yet I liked how it ended. I thought it was perfect and just...perfect! True, I had a few lingering questions, ones I can't really pose here without giving something away, but in reality they're not questions that will keep me up at night! LOL!

If you love a good fantasy read mixed with a bit of otherworldly travel--as it's not quite time travel--then I highly recommend reading this series! The bonds of friendship is another strong theme to this story with a side of romance, and I must admit that balance was spot on! True, it may be a smidgen cheesy, but we all need cheesy every now and then! I like cheese! LOL!

  1. I love cheese! I don't find too many sibling relationship stories, so this will be a good series to pick up. Strong characters are always a must in the books I read.
