This week's question is: Do you read hardcovers with the dust jacket on or off? Why or why not? (submitted by Maria @ A Night's Dream of Books)
MY ANSWER: Honestly, it depends! If I am at home reading in bed, I usually take the dust jacket off because I am usually laying down and for some reason the book slides more when I read like that! But if I'm at work, reading on my lunch break, I leave it on because it doesn't seem to move as much when I'm sitting!
I'm impressed you even attempt to read a hardcover in bed! They're so heavy.
ReplyDeleteI normally take them off but then most of my reading is done in bed so it might be different if I was reading other places!
ReplyDeleteI take them off just to keep them from being damaged.
ReplyDeleteWhen I lend a friend a book, I don't give them the jacket. They are surprised, but I can't let it get damaged. :)
I occasionally take them off, but most of the time I read with them on.

I don't think I've read a book lying down recently. Regardless of what position I'm in, the dust jacket always slides around so I always take them off.
ReplyDeleteUgh book jackets making books sliding around drives me absolutely insane! That is definitely one of the reasons I prefer to take the dust jacket off!

I keep them on. They are there to protect the book. Mind you, most of the hardcovers I read are borrowed from the library, so they are covered with plastic anyway.
ReplyDeleteThat makes sense. It's the sliding that tends to irritate me the most. Of course, I have always been a paperback girl, myself. I love the way hardcovers look in book photos but they are just a pain in the rear to me lol.

Yeah, I tend to get annoyed whenever the dust jacket makes the book slide around and I'm too busy concentrating on getting the book to stay in place than on the book I'm reading!

I always keep them on, but I think I'm in the minority!
ReplyDeleteI leave them on, but taking them off seems to be popular!
ReplyDeleteI take em off too usually. It kinda depends... :)
ReplyDelete😆 I don't usually read hardcover in bed. I inevitably begin to doze and smack myself with it or smack the cat. Do you have that issue, or put it down before you get that tired?

I don't usually read hardcovers in bed either... but that's just because I tend to find ebook copies of whatever I have in hardcover so I never have to be without my book. Happy reading!

I keep the dust jacket on. I will also use the flap as a bookmark.
ReplyDeleteUnless it's a library book, I take the dust jacket off.
