Truth be told I was almost finished with the last book, but I just started this one around 9:30 in the morning or so and it was amazing! I devoured it in one sitting just as the BOC suggests!Low Red Moon was given to me by Jess over at The Cozy Reader and it was just amazing! I've been devouring werewolf books lately, getting a craving for them for some reason. And Ivy Devlin's soon to be debut novel really satisfied my cravings!Avery Hood, who ironically has red hair, ;) is not really your typical teen. She grew up raised in a house her father built in the woods living with her parents, she only attended public school when she was ready for high school, so Avery is already a sort of outcast there, since everyone there has known each other since grade school. She's an outsider. She's different.What makes matters even worse is when her parents are brutally murdered, people start talking about her even more than they did before. Avery feels like a bigger outcast and you really have to feel something for her, most people feel like outcasts at some point during their school years. Avery is different then her classmates because she's literally lived in the forest, a place she's loved living, until her parents are murdered there.Then a new boy comes to town, Ben, and Avery feels a connection with him. There is something that draws her to him that she can't explain. Nor Ben. The BOC describes him perfectly, eyes that flash silver, something that triggers the memory of her parents' murder--something that she can't quite remember and tries to, for it will lead to who the murderer is. And Ben's a werewolf. We know right away, if the silver eyes weren't something to go by.I loved the connection between Avery and Ben. It was strong, yet fast. But sometimes love can be like that as we may learn. It was another strong bonding that just seemed like destiny between the characters, that kind of relationship always grabs at me and touches my heart in ways that I can't really explain well. It sort of felt like the relationship from Shiver, but with different qualities behind it. But that overall feel of connectedness is the same.The mystery elements were REALLY good too. As the book made it's progress I began to develop theories as I tend to do when reading something with a mystery and my speculations that something was "up" with two so-and-sos were correct. With one it took further reading to really grasp at it and I can only hope there will be further development on it when the next book comes out, which may be awhile since this was an ARC. My second one! (Reader girl squeal!)The ending was breathtaking and intense. Avery's memories slowly come back to her as she makes even more startling revelations about things, including the murder of her parents. My pulse beat with every word read, I couldn't read fast enough to get to the final conclusion to know what would happen. And sometimes I read too fast and miss something and then I have to backtrack all due to my excitement of the conclusion unfolding. It was very shocking as I said.
The romance level as I briefly mentioned before between Avery and Ben was intense and endearing. It was sweet, yet deep. Almost like a Romeo and Juliet, which did make an appearance in the book which made me wonder if we're to see Avery and Ben's romance as such, but I think theirs wasn't as lustful as Romeo and Juliet. There was more endearment to it. Which may also be due to it being set in the now and not when Romeo and Juliet was.Overall a GREAT read and one I HIGHLY recommend to werewolf YA lovers, as the BOC says. There's a lot to the books as the BOC says as well, to recap there was murder mystery, grief narrative--which we can all relate to on some level--and romance that really takes your breath away, causes your heart to skip a beat and go into overdrive. The book was really mind-blowing and now I am eagerly awaiting a sequel and hoping that there will be one!

Kitty Norville, alpha werewolf and host of The Midnight Hour, a radio call-in show, is contacted by a friend at the NIH"s Center for the Study of Paranatural Biology. It wasn't too bad, wasn't spectacular either. Unfortunately not too much happens that really grabs at you.Overall it was still interesting even with a little too much detail to the military aspects, but still interesting. But some of it just felt like Kitty wasn't neck deep into trouble like she usually is. The libel suit against her is where the trouble comes from that involves any danger, which is surprising compared to the uncontrollable werewolves that she has on her hands.The werewolves become the main problem and pretty much one of them is written off as hopeless right away leaving only two for her to deal with. But these wolves have been through a lot because their current alpha is unstable, the one who changed them we learn early on is dead. As are the rest of their pack by rule of this new alpha. We get to see another kind of dark side to being a werewolf in this book. We saw that dark side earlier on with Kitty's old alpha who is long since gone.Kitty's pack returns with some key appearances that help to make the story a little more interesting, as Kitty is trying to help the two other werewolves adjust to being a wolf in a normal healthy way, yet the rest of her pack doesn't quite trust them due to an "event" that happened early on when Kitty was first called to help.The other issue at hand with the Speedy Marts becomes a little interesting because there were speculations about something supernatural being involved which turns out to be true, we just don't know what yet. Kitty was speculating when she was talking about this on her radio show and when the CEO decides to sue, it causes a spark of interest for what is there to hide?Cormac returns again, more fully this time as he helps Kitty out in investigating the Speedy Mart issue. I loved Cormac's character before, but prison has changed him. He's not the same Cormac anymore, which really becomes evident throughout this book in little telltale signs. I think it was in Kitty and the Silver Bullet when an issue came up concerning Cormac and that issue is revisited again. I remembered it because at the time in that book, I was wondering what was going on in the prison. And the answer is finally revealed in Kitty Goes to War.There wasn't much for romance in this book, which I can't necessary complain since I'm not big on romance. There were a few kisses here and there, but that was it. It felt a little wrong to me almost because of how the relationship between Kitty and Ben developed, now things are calm. Which isn't wrong, there just wasn't any intensity like there was in earlier books.Overall it was an okay read. One of my friends online even warned me about this, but still I had to give it a try. Again, it was more interesting seeing Kitty deal with the Speedy Mart issue rather than the uncontrollable werewolves. I would still read the next Kitty book and I would still say read this if you want to. When you have nothing else to read. I don't want to say it was horrible, because I realize how much goes into writing a novel, I just couldn't get into as much as I've had with the past Kitty books. Vaughn had several releases this year and maybe Kitty got a little slighted this time around. But still it was a decent read. I really did enjoy seeing Cormac back in action and cannot wait to find out more about his current situation.Getting into Low Red Moon now and it's amazing so far. It's a different kind of werewolf book so far and I'm loving it!
Time for a big fan girl squeal! Rachel Vincent has posted the ENTIRE first chapter of her next and final release in the Shifters series, from Alpha!! I am dying to read this book because the series is soooo amazing! One of my all time favorites. And the chapter! Oh, my god! It was sooo good. I almost regret a tiny bit reading it so soon because now I have to wait to read the rest!I don't want to get into for spoiler purposes and spoilers to Shift, in case some people haven't read that one yet. But Rachel Vincent's series is a must read! What he sees in himself, how he sees Mira, his true thoughts of nightwalkers and the like. Yes he hates them, but we get to see that hate. But even in this book, Danaus is seeing the nightwalkers, at least, in a different light.Plus the bori who has half his soul is loose and wants the other part of his soul, it wants to be whole to wreak havoc on the Earth. But Danaus can't let this happen, to top it off he and Mira have to join forces, again, to solve the murder of the senator's daughter, which leads down other surprising paths involving more vampires and other things.The plot was well-paced and had me gripped the entire time. The bori keeps popping up, temporarily possessing people to talk to Danaus and Danaus must act in one way or another. And it's just very enticing because you never know when the bori will show up.His relationship with Mira also develops more throughout the book, and by Wait for Dusk's cover, pretty sure we'll see them get even closer! But Danaus still has an age old prejudice to get over of vampires. He can't seem to let up on what they do to survive, hurting humans and everything like that. Mira tries to show him that, her vampires at least, aren't so different from humans. Other character developments also include just Danaus alone, he makes some changes and personal decisions regarding his standing with Themis and the organization. James' character also makes a few surprising developments--won't hint to what, because it's spoilery, but man was it shocking!!The action increases throughout the book with more naturi attacks while Mira and Danaus are looking into the murder of the senator's daughter and they find themselves getting too deep into trouble. Mira slowly does go insane which only adds to the problem. Mira's problems cause problems for everyone and dealing with an unstable fire-starting vampire is not something Danaus wants to do, but he doesn't want to kill her, he can't kill her. Because he knows he needs Mira's help to save the day in the end.And the ending!! OMG. Freaking cliffhanger!! I mean cliffhangers can be good and they can be very, very EVIL and that is exactly what this cliffhanger is. There was the big epic ending where things are starting to come to a close and then BAM! Cliffhanger just before the temporary happily ever after. It was painful! But I told myself at least there is only 19 days to go!There were a few other surprises at the end too that left me chilled because I so did not see them coming at all. I mean they were another BAM! Shock! Wow. Overall it was my favorite in the Dark Day series, so far! Wait for Dusk may change that!So be prepared if you have not read it yet, maybe you might want to try holding off for another week or 2 so that way the wait for Wait for Dusk isn't as long.Stay reading!

Love the mysterious looking background, yeah there's what looks like a construction site or something, but it's definitely eerie. And the wolf is very interesting too! Can't wait to read it! And boy was it ever GREAT to return to Chicago, Merit, Ethan, Lindsay, Mallory, Catcher, and the rest of the gang! Just about everyone returns and the story really takes off with a bang!Merit receives a mysterious note to meet someone in Chapter 1 and we learn of a new group of vampires called the Red Guard, who protect vampires, the lowly vampires. It's not all about the Masters, but they are a sort of secret organization or something like that. Basically the members don't want to be revealed as being RG members. It was a little complicated, but that was the opening deal. Merit doesn't make the decision right away of course, because there are still 23 other chapters plus an Epilogue to get through first.The story timeline really hasn't moved very far from book 1, Merit's only been a vamp for a few months yet she's progressing well, and those extra training sessions with a particular vampire have come in handy. My that sounds scandalous!Before reading this I was rooting for Morgan, but after the events of Friday Night Bites, I have come to let go of him sadly and since Ethan is the only other option at the moment I had to root for him. He has grown on me in this book, we get to see a different side to Ethan. The man behind the vampire, the vampire behind the Master. All very dramatic, but there were some pretty intense moments with him and Merit, so the drama is almost called for.The involvement of the Shapeshifters was very refreshing. We've gotten a taste of the vampires, obviously, and now we get to learn of the other-other Supernatural race walking the streets of Chicago. It was very interesting to see how Neill made her Shapeshifters. Like all UF writers, everyone writes them differently or similarly with different traits and rules, but in the end, always differently. I love reading the different versions. Her Shapeshifters were different than the traditional ones is how I'll put it. I don't want to spoil it, and plus as Gabriel said the shifting process is one that is not meant to be seen by outsiders*.The romance was definitely very steamy in this book, when it was there. As you know I don't go for the books with an abundance of romance, but when the romance was in Twice Bitten, it was very hot! I won't go too far into it, but you can take some guesses as to what the romance entails and I'm sure you'll be accurate as well.The mystery elements were somewhat surprising as well. I mean I was trying to figure it out and sort of took a guess as to "who-done-it" and was sort of right. Although I was really wrong at one point, but before that I was right. So again, I was sort of right with my guess.The ending was surprising and filled with lots of action. More than once too! And yet again, in the epilogue were more surprises. I am eager to see where the Chicagoland Vampires series will go next. What will Merit have to do? What decisions will she make? There were some pretty tough ones she had to make during the novel and she stuck by them for the most part. The ending may change some things, but only time will tell, or hopefully the next Chicagoland Vampires book!
Oh and another interesting tidbit, we finally hear Merit's first name! I don't recall hearing it before, if we did, then WOW, where is my head! But Merit's first name is revealed in Twice Bitten!

JANE TRUE HAS ALMOST COME TO TERMS WITH HER SUPERNATURAL HERITAGE...ALMOST.Valentine's Day is fast approaching, and Ryu--Jane's bloodsucking boyfriend--can't let a major holiday go by without getting all gratuitous. An overwhelming dose of boyfriend and a last-minute ticket to Boston later, and Jane's life is thrown off course.Ryu's well-intentioned plans create mayhem, and Jane winds up embroiled in an investigation involving a spree of gruesome killings. All the evidence points toward another Halfling, much to Jane's surprise.Finally finished Tracking the Tempest and it was another GREAT read! Took me awhile to sit down and read since I was on vacation and I was getting out into the world, doing things other than holeing up in my room and reading...or writing.It was fantastic! It pretty much picks up a few months after Tempest Rising, Jane is training, learning how to use her powers and Valentines' Day is coming up and Ryu has a surprise planned for Jane. But the lovely weekend soon takes a turn for the worse, another halfing is on the loose and is attacking people. Ryu believes that the halfing is after him based on Ryu's position, but it soon becomes much more complicated than that. The story leads us down a darker path involving a prison of sorts, tests, and a thirst for revenge.The halfing is soon revealed to have an obsession with Jane, like calls to like, and Jane is sent back home for her own safety. Which goes well for about a day when the halfing tracks her down again, sending Jane to run away from her home in order to protect her friends and father.The action was well paced in this book, when I finally sat down and read without getting distracted I was really getting into the book. Nothing is scarier than a crazed halfing being obsessed with you and I really felt the "freaked out-ness" that Jane felt during the book.Her relationship with Ryu continues to grow, but there are some interesting surprises and developments that occur that threaten their relationship.I am yet again surprised by Anyan. I feel like there is definitely something more to his character, and we definitely get to see more of him in this book, but there is definitely something interesting going on with him. I don't want to lead to spoilers, so I will end it at that!The ending was HUGE. Like in "ohmigod" HUGE! The current problem was wrapped up, but a slew of new ones were starting, which obviously didn't get wrapped up. A lot of thing leaves you hanging and it will be interesting to see where Tempest's Legacy takes us in January. At least it's less than a year's worth of wait. I wish I could elaborate more on the cliffhangers, but it would get really close to leading to spoilers, but the cliffhangers, while cliffhangers, are not painful ones in my opinion. Yes, I am dying to know what happens, but since the wait is til January, I think I can manage. Plus I have a slew of other books to read still and new releases to come that will answer other cliffhangers for me that were torturous so I will be able to bide my time!Stay reading!**For some reason blogger messed up my IMM post that I had set to post yesterday morning.
