This week's question is: This Sunday in the U.S. is Mother’s Day, in celebration, what are some of your favorite books with strong mother/child relationships?
MY ANSWER: Oh wow. Tough one. The parent's usually aren't around too much in the books I read. Even the YA ones and those parents usually aren't the greatest either. Well I do like Cat and her mom Justine from the Night Huntress series too! Justine is a riot! I really enjoy her interactions with Bones though!
Another one I like is from Linda Robertson Persephone Alcmedi series. There's actually two here, but they are not direct mother daughter relationships. Persephone ends up adopting a young girl in the the first book, Beverly and I think they have a pretty good mother daughter relationship. A little more normal than Cat and Justine. Also, Persephone and her grandmother--who raised her are a pretty good relationship as well. Her grandmother is bit outspoken, but she has a good heart too!
TGIF is a weekly feature created and hosted by GReads! that re-caps the week’s posts and has different question each week.
This week's question is: Supporting Characters: We tend to gush over those main characters the most, but what about those supporting roles? Who are some of your favorites?
MY ANSWER: Ooohh I like this one!! The first one that came to my mind was Janco! Janco comes from Maria V. Snyder's Study and Glass trilogy and he is without a doubt the BEST side character ever!! He's hilarious too! He's a big man, yet when he fights he is usually chanting a rhyme! Some silly little nonsense rhyme that distracts his opponent! Oooh man, he's funny! He brings light into the dark moments when things are getting scary and all.
One of my other faves, ironically comes from a series that isn't really urban fantasy, but has more paranormal elemnts is Gilley from Victoria Laurie's Ghost Hunter Mystery series! He's M.J.'s best friend and partner in crime. He's also gay which is what makes some of the things he says very funny. He and M.J. will be looking at the same hot guy and Gilley will be the one to say something racey! He's hilarious, like I said! He is also a bit of a scaredy cat, M.J. has to convince him to do this or that when they are out ghost hunting, but it's all in good fun!
Oooh thought of another, Jenks from Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan series. He's very funny too! He says the most ridiculous things when he's mad and cursing. Something about Tink's panties might be one. I can't remember really, still have to read the latest book in the series!
I know I have more, but I can't remember them all at the moment. So typical for the brain to be all scatter-minded when a question comes up and you cannot remember all the characters or topics you want to talk about in regards to the theme! :D
OMG, I use to hate Justine at first. She was a pretty bad mom to Cat if you remember, but their relationship has gotten better. Good choice.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by.
That's weird. I don't remember Cat's mom much. LOL. I was probably busy with Bones. :P
ReplyDeleteGreat answers! For FF, those are all new titles to me. But I agree - most YA doesn't focus on parent/child relationships.
ReplyDeleteFor TGIF, those are new to me too, but you definitely have me intrigued about the Glass Trilogy. I love hilarious characters! :)

I used Janco and Ari in my TGIF answer, too! You just have to include them as they are some of the most memorable supporting characters. :) Great answer!
ReplyDeleteOMG, JANCO! He's a FANTASTIC secondary character!! Awesome picks!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read those but I'll sure add them to my tbr list! Happy WEEKEND!

ReplyDeleteCat is always a great choice! I have to read vicious circle, I hope soon.
ReplyDeleteHalfway to the Grave is on my TBR list. I'm so glad to see Janco's name mentioned. I LOVED him in the Study and Glass series.
ReplyDeleteNew GFC follower. Our FF
I haven't read those books, but they sound fun :)
ReplyDeleteOh! I didn't even think of Justine! I loved her in the Night Huntress books. New follower here! Thanks for stopping by our FF.
ReplyDeleteLOL, okay, I have to start reading more. Everyone is always talking about books I've never read. And truthfully, I remember you mentioning 'Bones' before, so I really must read these books! Happy #ff, thanks for stopping by my blog as per usual :P
ReplyDeleteI really like the gay BFF's. Seems like they'd get old, but they never do. They have such FUN personalities!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite side characters is from The Right and the Real by Joelle Anthony and his name is LaVon. He's this older big scary guy but he has this nurturer personality and he's all about the environment but he kind of talks like a gangsta so it just seems so funny.
I haven't been by in AGES! Since I don't do IMM anymore I've lost touch with a lot of bloggers I saw regularly. So thanks for stopping by!
