This week's question is: Jumping Genres: Ever pick up a book from a genre you usually don’t
like and LOVE it? Tell us about it and why you picked it up in the first
place.
MY ANSWER: Well, I guess Divergent counts. I don't usually read outside the paranormal or fantasy type genre. But I kept hearing soooo many great things about Divergent that I decided to pick it up at RT earlier this year. Already read it too and it was pretty good!
This week's question is: Comfort Reads: Which books do you go to for comfort & familiarity?
Is there a type of book you seek out when you're needing that extra bit
of comfort in your life?
MY ANSWER: Hmm...not really? I always love reading something new and as long as it fits into my genre or has something to spark an interest, I'll read it and be comfy! So I guess when I am exploring new ground--like I did with Divergent, I want to go back to reading something paranormal for a time. Or when I venture into my magic or psychic type mysteries--which still have a flare of supernatural--I will read a paranormal afterwards.
So I guess in short answer, I don't really have any specific book. Just books that fit into my genre. I got three to four mountain size TBR piles--one being on my Kindle--to get through and they are 99% books I chose myself. A few might be review copies that I didn't ask for or other books I won but sounded interesting enough that I kept them.
Great answers. For comfort I'd likely seek out historical fiction, I love stories about Anne Boleyn and Elizabeth 1. It's a total escape when reading about another time in history.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm similar - what it boils down to for me is having a lot of books to choose from and then just picking one - sometimes even just looking for a book to read can be therapeutic for me because I can spend hours doing that.

I agree with the keeping your options open, sometimes I just like the chance to pick a book at random and read, I don't know why but I find I always enjoy them books more. I also like going into book that I don't know anything about, just because they are from a genre I like.

Similiar! I'm not a big fan of dystopian novels (or YA novels in general) but the hype made me pick it up and boooooy, it was so good, right? :D

Divergent really was awesome. Also, you can no longer submit yourself for being featured for this meme. Rachel and Alison just pick people from the linky randomly. I bet you will be picked soon.
ReplyDeleteReally glad you picked up Divergent! :D
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!
I haven't read Divergent yet so I can't tell but I'm curious to start it.
ReplyDeleteThank god you decided to give Divergent a shot!
ReplyDeleteThanks for checking out my FF! :)
I still haven't read Divergent. I'm not that big into dystopian. I usually try to avoid that genre. It depends on if I like the author.

I have so wanted to read Divergent, basically like you heard so many good things about it.
ReplyDeletethanks for stopping by and have a great weekend.
I am very skeptical of dystopian novels! I don't really like all the control the government has over the world and how that basically builds the world in the book. Great choice! Thanks for stopping by!!
ReplyDeleteElle@ Love Big Read Big
I still havent read Divergent or Insurgent, though I REALLY want to.
ReplyDeleteIm sure it will happen soon enough though

Ah, Divergent. The first dystopian book I really, really fell in love with ( a lot more actually than the Hunger Games). I can totally see how that book makes people jump on the dystopian bandwagon.

Paranormal Romance
I like how you had more of a go-to genre, as opposed to a particular book, when it comes to what makes you comfortable. I feel that way about my historical romances!
ReplyDeleteI read all kinds of books too! Loved the answer.
ReplyDeleteTry classic masters of the paranormal writers joseph sheridan le fanu and lord dunsany, both from Ireland. Thanks for stopping by my blog
ReplyDeleteGreat answers! ^^

Awesome! I feel like everyone needs to red Divegent! i'm not that much into dystopians, either...they have to be really good to make me love them and Divergent was one of them :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Divergent yet wither, even though I bought a copy to read. I need to get to that. I usually prefer contemps, I don't read too many dystopians.
