Review--Sweet Nightmare by Tracy Wolff

The scariest school on earth
Is about to experience real fear…

Most schools are about being the best. This school? It’s about being the worst. Calder Academy is where the rogue paranormals go. The ones who break the rules or lose control. And when that happens for vamps, werewolves, witches, and dark fae? It gets pretty freaking scary.

I should know. Because I’m trapped here.

Look, every seventeen-year-old girl thinks their mom is a tyrant. But mine just happens to run Calder Academy, which paints a giant target on my back. The way I make it through these dark halls is by steering clear of the things―and kids―who go bump in the night.

Especially Jude Abernathy-Lee.

But when a freak storm hits our isolated island, I'm stuck without a backup plan. The power is gone. The lights are out. And our worst nightmares are suddenly real―and out for blood.
Now the only way to survive is to align myself with one evil to avoid the other.

And the only thing worse than the idea of getting close to Jude? Secretly loving every minute of it.

Are you ready to return to Tracy Wolff's world of Crave but instead visit another school filled with paranormal teenagers? Except this group is the worst of the bunch as Calder Academy is more the school for troublesome paranormal teenagers! Get ready for a new adventure with Sweet Nightmare and learn why high school can in fact be a total nightmare!

If you know me at all, you know I am a total vampire reader! I love vampire books and that eventually stemmed into all things paranormal! So a series that is basically Harry Potter a la paranormal beings is a series I can totally get behind! There's still mystery and big bad evils to conquer and of course some budding romances that are totally swoonworthy! Sweet Nightmare is a phenomenal read that will have you devouring the pages one by one! Paranormal readers rejoice as our time has come once again!

We are introduced to a new side of the paranormal world that Grace was introduced to book by book in the Crave series. But this time, we are following a new heroine at a different school. Clementine, a manticore--which can we say wow! I don't think I've ever read a book with a cognizant manticore before--has been at Calder Academy all her life. While the school is largely for the "bad" paranormal teenagers, Clementine isn't one of those types of students. She's the daughter of the dean and she's waiting for the day she graduates so she can leave the school behind once and for all.

It was just another normal day in class when the teacher just had to assign Clementine and her once best friend, Jude, to work together on a class project. Clementine and Jude have a complicated history that we learn more in detail about as the story moves along. Needless to say that feelings were had by one and feelings were hurt by one that caused a drift between the two and a dissolving of their friendship.

So naturally, tensions run high between these two before we even get to the game changing plot points! Since this series was originally intended to start with Izzy and Remy's story, it was no surprise to see these two show up as students at this school! It was nice to see familiar faces again! Especially those two! I loved their interactions together because as we all know, Izzy is one tough chick and Remy is nearly her polar opposite, so I am counting down until we get their book in the next two years! But I have to say, that meeting Clementine and Jude and seeing their story evolve was truly magical! I am a sucker for old, broken friendships healing and turning into romance!

Things really pick up when a storm hits the island the school is on and terrifying things start happening. Nightmares start coming to life and attacking the students and things continue to spiral from there! This series is definitely going to be epic and we're only at the first part of what I believe is a trilogy at this point! I guess we will have to wait and see what Tracy comes up with these next two years!

It goes without saying that this book was just incredibly epic! If you've read the Crave series, you know Tracy is a master at weaving together incredible characters mixed with enticing plotlines filled with action, mystery, romance, and of course, some light-hearted humor! She's truly a master of words! What I really love about her writing is how intense the romances come off! I mean not only do we have these two teens who used to be good friends who had things happen that forced them apart and they come to find each other again, but we learn all these details to both of their backgrounds and what forces were driving them apart and continue to drive them apart! Tracy Wolff's words truly left me spellbound!

I was ultimately curious about seeing what bigger picture was being created here. Major things were happening at the end of the story that definitely has me needing more! So yes, you can expect cliffhangers in this one! Tracy was dropping these left and right that my jaw was getting sore from dropping so much! Major things are happening in this world and I cannot wait to see what will happen next!

Sweet Nightmare was a read that kept me thoroughly entertained from start to finish! This is the read that Paranormal readers have been waiting for! While I love reading about the classic supernatural types, I love reading about newer or lesser known ones as well! Tracy has quite the repertoire of supernatural types in her stories and I love seeing the variety! This is a book I would recommend to all readers who enjoy the darker side of YA fiction! When you combine the supernatural with mystery, romance, suspense, and twisty plots you get a GREAT and totally amazing read; you get a Tracy Wolff read to love over and over again!
