ROSWELL Revival/Redo
I was reading an article just minutes before I decided I would do a Discussion Post on this, talking about Canceled TV Shows That are Making a Comeback in 2018! I wasn't overly familiar with them, but then I saw ROSWELL! And my heart soared! Of course, I know all the authors are older and are soooo far off from being able to pass as teenagers!
But then the article went on to say that it would NOT be a continuation. It's a brand new story with the same plot line. Teenage girl discovers her crush is an alien...and oh, twist, she's an undocumented immigrant, so an alien too!
I'm not too sure how I feel about this. I mean I was DEVASTATED when season 3 was the final one. Sure I had the book series, but it was only 4 books long after the show ended. Sooooo not enough. I admit, it did end well...ish. Still upset that Isabel and Jesse couldn't be together. I mean, what was that about?! Seriously, he's pretty much in danger too! Also felt like Michael and Maria didn't really settle things between them and weren't happily running away with one another. There were many feels in that last season!
Lately, all these remakes and "revamps" give me odd feelings. On the one hand, I am curious to see what will happen with the new version, and then on the other I'm appalled that they DARE to "revamp" a beloved favorite of mine.
Though the article doesn't make it sound like CW has made a done deal on the show yet. It's a possibility but it doesn't seem concrete. So I guess we'll wait to see what the Fall TV season will bring us.
So what do you think? Would you watch a totally new version of Roswell? I'm still on the fence about it.
I loved the original Roswell, but I am always leery of revamps. A lot of the shows on that list had been done as movies, which never really lived up to the originals for me. BUT there is a whole generation of viewers, who are unfamiliar with the originals and may like it.
ReplyDeleteI never saw the original Roswell - so now I have to try and check it out. I like when the originals come back - but only when they come back good! I can't think of anything I've seen that's done that yet.

Oh man! I got seriously so excited and then seriously so crushed with this post. I LOVE Roswell! But I really wanted it to be a spin off/continuation of the original not a remake! (Plus I don't know how I feel about the second alien concept!) But I will def watch it.
ReplyDeletegreat post!

I rarely see a revival of a show not try to "revamp" the original. I tend to dislike revamps of any show or movie. Though I haven't watched Roswell (and probably won't watch the revamped one), I'm a little annoyed at the producers trying to be cute about the play on "alien," but it's not my place to be annoyed about it. Just for fun, could they try filming somewhere near Roswell?
ReplyDeleteNot sure how I feel about revivals. Sometimes the old characters just can't be replaced when you've fallen in love with them.
ReplyDeleteI ADORED the original Roswell (though you seem to remember more details about how it ended up than I do). I think I'd at least give a reboot a chance. I didn't know about this one, so I'm so glad you mentioned it!!

I love the original Roswell. I completely agree with you; Michael and Maria did not settle things well and I was upset that Isabel and Jesse didn't work things out. :( But if it does get greenlit, I think it would open a lot of teenagers to science fiction!! None of my friends are that into sci-fi, and it's pretty much regarded as an older generation thing...which NO! If it does get adapted, I hope it will be acted well! The CW actors are always excellent or horrible.
