Unexpected Surprises
Has there ever been a book you weren't sure you were going to like, but yet, read it anyway? Did you end up loving it? I'm sure this has happened to everyone at some point and I know it's had to have happened to me more than once! Of course the opposite is always true too, but I'm not branching out to that topic today! Lol.
The book that totally took me by surprise, will in fact surprise you!
Yes, Intertwined by Gena Showalter--one of my MOST FAVORITE SERIES EVER--took me by surprise! I wasn't entirely sure I was going to like it. It was in 2010 so the early days of blogging and I was only slowly getting into this blogging thing so I hadn't read any reviews on this one I don't believe. I had entered a contest where I would the first two books of this series and the first two books in the Iron Fey series, which was what really caught my eye for this contest. And I REALLY wish I could remember which blog was hosting it, but it's been wayyy too long for that!
Anyway, since my TBR pile hadn't really grown yet, or was just slowly starting since somewhere at this point Borders will close and I will go to my first RT Convention. I decided to give the book a try. And you pretty much know where things go from here!
I believe my initial hesitation to this series was that it was a male point of view. I know, I know. It's a stupid reason, but at this time the only male point of view I'd read was Harry Potter. I can't remember if I tried other male pov's at the time and it just didn't mesh well with me. But regardless I decided to try the book! I needed something to read most likely! Lol.
And naturally, as we all know, I fell deeply in love with this series! So yes, this book took me completely by surprise! And as you all know, my soul was crushed entirely when it was cancelled. I will always look fondly on this series for many reasons, and of course when I see it on my shelves I cry a little because there will always be one book missing.
So is there a book that took you completely by surprise? Was it one you wanted to read, or read more out of curiosity or a sort of "forced into it" situation?
Yes! The most recent example of this for me was Grace and Fury. For some reason, I wasn't super excited to read it, but I really loved it!
